  I have a volvo s80 V reg about 7 years old. The car has had the same battery as the one that it came with when it was new so the battery is also about 7 years and has finally run out. It won't take charge anymore, I have kept it on the charger all night.

  I see from this site that the (new) directional bi-xenons are switcheable for lhd/rhd. But what about the old ones? I tried my Volvo garage but they were unhelpful. Do I need to go to the expense of replacing the headlamp units (costly) or is it possible to reset the low beam to eg a "neutal" beam that would allow the vehicle to pass a UK MOT?

  Hi, I hope someone can advise. I have an elderly Volvo 240 estate ( ours since new!) 160000 miles but still runs fine, getting a bit tatty, but we still love it. Only problem is the bulbs on the instruments have failed. Not the fuse, checked that. Handbook just says "Difficult to replace, get the dealer to do it" Is it a job I could do myself, as I can't see an obvious route to the back of the intruments?

  Cna somebody tell me how to jump start my volvo s80. The battery is in the trunk at the back of the car and not very easily accessible for jumping purposes. Someone tells me that there is a terminal in the engine compatment under the hood but i have tried to look for it and cant find it. if someone knows where this terminal is could u please kindly describe how it looks and where exactly it is.please try to simplify it as much s possible coz am not a car buff.. or if one has a diagram can send to lightshade99@yahoo.com cheers

  I have just bought a 2002 Volvo S80 and am wondering if it is possible to run the car without the full headlamps on? I find that if I turn the rotary switch to parking lights when driving only the side lights come on then, but in this mode it is all to easy to leave the lights on all the time.

  Hi I recently bought a 2nd hand volvo S80 which is fine apart from the radio which although produces great FM reception has very intermittent AM reception (which is annoying as I listen to Talksport). When the car hasn't been used for a while the output is fine but after having the engine running for a while the output degrades into a sea of static noises completely drowning out the station.

  Seriously thining about buying a Volvo S80 D5 auto. It is 10 months old and has 30,000miles. The history is that it was a chauffeur driven car ferrying hotel guests between Central London and the airports. I know the S80 model well (I have just sold a 2.9), but what should I look for when buying it and what should I do once I do buy it, assuming that I do?

  Hi All Due to the temporary loss of use of my trusty Carlton I have bought a cheap Volvo 740 GL for towing. Seems to do the job reasonably well. But one problem. The left hand warning light on the dashboard stays on occasionally. It looks like an axle with short lines underneath, all enclosed in a circle.

  Morning all - this is my first post so keep it simple for me ! I've got a 1995(M) Volvo 940 2.3 SE Turbo Estate, it's got 65,000 on the clock and I had the clutch replaced last year BUT the clutch has become 'rough' when reversing and is none too good on moving away from rest. In addition to this I was giving it a little workout last night and I noticed a faint smell of burning clutch (after a brief spell at 5,000 revs).

  My `98 Volvo V70 XC has a luggage cover which I cannot for the life of me work out how to remove! I`ve read the hand book which states the retracted luggage cover should be pushed to the right in its holder to disengage.

  Over the last few weeks I've been seeing a white estatein Crawley which loooks very like a Volvo 900 series, except... It has very low profile tyres (like rubber bands really) A front spoiler similar to that on my Alfa 75 Veloce An exhaust pipe the size of a drainpipe A rear roof spoiler The only badges on it say Autech Version It's an 'R' registration Darkened windows.

  My father in law has a Volvo 740 1990 'G' Non ABS Model. When braking from 40 MPH+ there is a vibration through the car that is like driving over rumble strips in the road. Recently the pads and discs were changed and all components were checked for runout with a dial gauge, seizure of caliper pistons, sliding pins etc.

  Very unnerving!!. About 200 miles after a new fuel relay was put in by the Volvo main agent the problem occurred again 20 times in 100 miles, no trouble today although it blinked twice yesterday. No link to engine temperature, no sluggish forewarning just a shut down for a fraction of a second.

  It was aware that the coming spring would be its last and, on Monday afternoon, it had locked me out in the freezing cold. He then informed me that a friend of his was selling a ?04 Volvo V40 Classic with 60k miles ? at this stage, I don?t know what the engine is. Apparently, this was the ?runout? model just prior to the discontinuation of the type and it has 'all the toys'. I never thought of myself as a Volvo driver but I suppose that now I am just past 60, I have become eligible.
