pull out the key and it still keeps running.runs in a slightly odd way when i turn it off but still going none the less so i have to stall it when i park. now,i'm thinking theres probably some kind of soleniod to cut off the fuel as theres no spark plugs or ignition to turn off?or is this a more serious issue? car is a metro 1.4 non turbo..fitted with i think the pug 106 psa engine.80k miles. thanks, bunny -
ZX Diesel wont start after servicing 1 Feb 2005 (Forum)
.********* One point of note though, rather inadvertently I did turn the white plastic screw the is at about the same level as the fuel bleed valve and about 90 degrees around from it (if the rear of the car is at 12 o?clock and the bleed valve is at 6 o'clock this thing is at 9 o'clock) after mistaking it for the bleed valve (my first service with the car). -
Uninsured loss recovery 16 Nov 2004 (Forum)
The police have been quite poor communicating this and say they will only give specifics to the insurance company. Anyway, I was wondering how to go about recovering our uninsured losses, such as fuel, telephone calls, courtesy car insurance, general inconvenience etc? Is there any way to quantify the inconvenience factor into £s.... We don't have the optional legal cover on the insurance - think its a waste of money. -
AA Response 2 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Recently my son in laws car would not start [Seat Leon].When AA patrolman arrived he eventually started the car and proceeded to sit with his foot fully down on the throttle, his explanation being a fuel injected car should not be moved a few feet because it floods, [the car had been moved a few feet the day before] and you have to clear the injectors. I found this response very strange and would have been none to happy if he had treated my car in this way.I always thought you should not over rev a cold engine, or is all that in the past? -
Petrol Drinker 28 Aug 2004 (Forum)
For example my mum goes nowhere but the next town for work every day, where I like to go gallavanting off. I'm not talking about distance really because I know that's going to use fuel, I mean driving method - even on short journeys the car seems to be very thirsty if I'm driving. Thanks! -
New car on 1st September 25 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Yes, yes it's the one I can afford because I've worked hard, paid off my mortgage, nearly finished paying for the school fees and so on. Now then - how do I run in a diesel? What revs? For how long? etc. etc. It comes full of fuel (unknown brand - probably Tesco as it's nearest to the dealer), but after that I intend to use BP premier cru because you all tell me to. -

PT Cruiser recall in USA 6 Jun 2004 (Forum)
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that a high-pressure power steering hose can loosen and come into contact with other parts of the vehicle. If the hose is punctured and power steering fuel leaks out, a fire can start." Also reported on CBS News. Are the UK models affected? -
Saxo cold start problem 31 May 2004 (Forum)
The problem started after a fill up at the local Safeways, is that just coincidence or could it be a dodgy tank of fuel? I heard somewhere that there is a relay that controls the glowplugs and wondered if that could be at fault. Help appreciated before I start throwing money at it. -
Low Insurance, reliable, estate? 25 May 2004 (Forum)
I'll also be doing some long trips down south every few months but as the cost of these would be shared fuel economy isn't so important. Cars i've considered so far are: Skoda Felicia Estate (seem to be rare) Nissan Almera Any more ideas? Many thanks, Damian -
Fiat Panda cylinder head swap 2 May 2004 (Forum)
It looks a bit like a petrol pump nosel with a spray coming out of it - it occasionally comes on whilst driving but does not seem to be a low fuel light? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. -
Subaru Impreza Import remapping 24 Jan 2004 (Forum)
A friend of mine has bought himself a 96 Import impreza STI. These in japan, run on RON 100 unleaded fuel, the nearest we have is RON 97 unleaded. He has been advised against octane boosters as these in time will damage the cat and don't really do alot. So to run this car to its potential it should have its ECU remapped or face a melt down pushing to a std. 280bhp. -
Diesel Engine Air Filter Change interval 5 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I ask this question as I have just had my E46 320d serviced and actually requested that the engine air filter be replaced, only to be told by the local "main stealer", that it was not necessary at only 13.5k miles from new. Surely a slightly blocked filter is going to impact on fuel consumption to some extent, so any feed back on this subject would be much appreciated. Many thanks. Dude. -
ULSD Diesel 3 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Or that ULSD was pushed at a cheaper price... perhaps that's why some soopermarkets are able to "absorb" the cost of the tax hike - the fuel vendors have been saving the difference since... any comments / opinions? -
feisty fiesta 18 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My student daughter runs a 1.1 pop plus to get to college etc. Its the H.C.S.engine weber carb model; and following a fuel leak which was causing uneven running, a problem still persists only at low revs. All the service items have been done and a local ford dealer has set up the mixture [replacing the screw] The breathing function is O.K and they are unable or unwilling to find a cure. -
Volvo 240 cat removal 15 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Have searched the forum but can't find the definitive answer I am looking for. 1990 Volvo 240 "Lambda Sond" - i.e. car is fitted with fuel injection and a catalytic convertor. Obviously given its age the cat can be removed but is it a simple process of using the downpipe from an earlier pre-cat car or simply smashing the honeycomb out of it with a broomstick a la HJ's advice? -
Ford Fiesta 1.8 TDI 25 May 2003 (Forum)
As the car has only done 34,000 miles and has been regularly serviced (not by Fords) she was amazed to be infomed by the dealership that the fuel pump had "gone" and would have to be replaced with other sundry parts and labour to a cost of nearly fifteen hundred pounds. The Service Department did admit that they were at a loss as to why this should happen and have promised to investigate. -
BMW 330i cold starting problem 27 Feb 2003 (Forum)
The car will start from hot OK, but cold starts are very difficult, but it will eventually start. Car has 15,000 miles and has been at the BMW franchised dealer for a week..they have changed the fuel pump but still the problem is there. The whole thing is costing him £££££££££££££ despite BMWs supposedly high-tech diagnostic equipment. And BMW are rubbing their hands with glee since he is paying for it. -
Help (nobody else can!) 8 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Taken it to the garage and bascially they're stumped. They've checked no air's getting into it and changed the fuel filter (which was brand new anyway), but have run out of ideas. Anyone got any clues? i'm desperate! Cheers. -
Gti 98 RON? 9 Oct 2002 (Forum)
My Golf Gti 8v (1988, PB engine) says on the fuel flap that it would like 98 RON petrol. The garage last night had no idea what octane rating their petrol was (!) a little research on the web indicates I should use super unleaded. Any comments, anyone?
