  • VW Golf poor suspension? 2 Aug 2002 (Forum)
These are treated as rep-mobiles ( ie 800-1000 miles a week - mostly motorway miles) Previous cars where a t reg 2.0LS Vectra and a r reg Peugeot 406 1.8 - (not exactly known for amazing handling.) Anyone else having similar problems? Anyone else complained to VW? Help us please......
  • Old cars and the environment. 11 Mar 2001 (Forum)
That's even taking into account the greater efficiency of new engines. It's one of the arguments I use for not getting rid of my fourteen year old Peugeot 309. The old XU diesel is dirty in today's terms, but it's turning in an average of over 50mpg, cruises happily and quietly at 70-75 and I've known park benches less reliable (we do around 10,000 miles a year and the engine has not needed a repair of any kind in the last five years).
  • When to change 7 Jan 2001 (Forum)
My wife and I only need one car nowadays. I have a Nov. 98S Peugeot 106zest 1.1 24,000 miles Cost £7,000 and she has an Aug 96 Honda Civic 5 door 1.6Ls auto & air con 52,000 miles cost £15,500. Against a well spec'd new Golf / Focus we've been offered £7,400 for the pair - apparently they're worth about the same each.Question - does common sense say get rid of them now or would I lose in the long run by running one or both of these cars for another 5(?)
  • Peugeot 307 - Faulty car and court! 30 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Bought the car in the beginning of november 2015 for £1990. Its a 2007 peugeot 307 and had 90,000 miles on the clock. It had three months warranty and was advertised as having service history. We part x my fiat punto for 500. It also had 3 months warranty. When we picked up the car we were told he would send us the service history as it had been misplaced.

  • Any - Will any new car engine stay the course 12 May 2021 (Forum)
Similarly the Ford eco boost with its A4 paper sized footprint was raved about. HJ loved the new Peugeot engines initially. Now issues are appearing. I am sure others will have examples of other engines that were launched with a fanfare to good reviews only for the problems to emerge later. Maybe the coming death of the ICE engine will  usher in a final stop to designer tinkering and reliability will settle down.
  • The mrs wants a car 11 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Er indoors, has decided she needs a little runaround, something small, now obviously with all the lockdown business it won’t be anytime soon, so I’d thought I’d ask on here what you guys think, the budget should be around  3k, I say should cos she’s paying, but cheaper would be better, mileage will be low as it would be mainly used as an urban runaround so no motorway use, and it goes without saying, petrol not diesel, so she likes suzuki splash, or the Vauxhall agila, not sure what the difference is apart from the badge  ayago, Citroen , Peugeot, I know these are identical cars but which one,  now she wants as new as possible ( given her budget) so I know the swift would be recommended, but the few we’ve seen on auto trader are probably a bit long in the tooth for her, now the final bit...reliability, which of these would be the most reliable in your opinion?
  • Vauxhall Ampera - Worth a punt ? 20 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Although I'll make savings by using the SUV less I can't fund any sort of second vehicle on them so I know I'm going to spend more but to keep the cost down I'm looking at 2012 (ish) cars which are now out of their extended warranty so I'd like the Backroomer's views on the risks involved. Two specific cars have caught my eye - the Mitsubishi i-MIEV/Peugeot Ion/Citroen C-Zero and the Vauxhall Ampera/Chevrolet Volt - I'd welcome opinions on these bearing in mind they're 8 years old and out of warranty. I also considered the Renault Zoe but at this age, they all need a leased battery which puts the cost up way too high.
  • Any - To those who helped a biker yesterday near Beeston 20 Feb 2019 (Forum)
But while waiting for the recovery truck, I was humbled by the number of people who stopped and offered to help.  My thanks especially to Luke, in a white Peugeot van, who gave me some wipes and plasters from his first aid kit;  and to Steve in a silver Focus who first checked if I was OK, then 20 minutes later came back with a bottle of water and chocolate bar, completely unbidden.

  • Volkswagen Golf VI - Help much appreciated! - Buying VW Golf 6 May 2014 (Forum)
First time posting to this forum. All your help would be muchly appreciated. I've sold on my old car (Peugeot 306....12 years of faultess service) and I'm now looking at buying a good second hand Golf VI Match Edition 1.4 tsi (the 122bhp one). I was on the verge of getting one when I started looking at the problems these engines have with the timing chains.
  • SUVs - Car Specification Options 28 Sep 2013 (Forum)
And no automatic model is available with a petrol engine. I have also tried the Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 3008, and Ford C Max and all of these have similar restrictions on the combination of options available. Can anybody recommend an SUV that has soft suspension and has a petrol/automatic engine option, please?
  • 307 XSI HD Estate - 307 Air Con stops working after a minute 18 Jul 2013 (Forum)

  • Icy crash insurance question 9 Mar 2013 (Forum)
A few second later, another woman approached and lost control in exactly the same manor, bouncing off the Peugeot that was embedded in my front bumper. Fortunatley there were no injuries. My question is this, even though I was driving a work vehicle and was 100% blame free, backed up by witnesses and my cctv, do I need to declare this incident to my insurers when I renew my car policy?
  • Skoda Octavia 1.6TDI - Why does HJ appear to have a knife in VW diesels 18 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Literally per my title. (i) I appreciate BMW make excellent diesels. (ii) I was pleased when Peugeot Citroen introduced the HDI engines. (iii) Fiat always made good diesels (iv) Neither Ford nor GM can make (or leastwise design) good diesels. (v) Any engine the Japanese make is generally well engineered.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C 1.2 - Corsa C totally lifeless... What's fried? 20 Oct 2012 (Forum)
The car now remains totally dead even when connected to a more powerful battery, my 12 plate company Peugeot 308. No dash lights come on, the horn does not work nor the central locking etc. Does anyone have any idea what could have gone? I did not hear any noises or smell any strange smells when the car went dead after jumping.

I am looking to buy a used car to replace my R reg peugeot 306 1.9 tdi, which is becoming less and less reliable, with a similar small family hatchback. I commute to work so reliability is a priority. I am doing roughly 22k miles a year so a car with good mpg (over 60) would be preferable.
  • What car should I buy? 4 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Hi all, We're looking to buy a new car. Currently driving a 1.4 Petrol Peugeot 206, but looking to upgrade. I recently had a BMW 1 Series 2.0 diesel for a month, and loved the drive & power - so ideally looking for something with similar power but that looks a bit nicer than the BMW.
