  • Skoda Octavia - failure of driveshaft gaiters 18 Feb 2011 (Forum)
In fact, I have had no gaiter problems with ANY car until this Octavia. Does anyone know the reason for this please? My wife has a Seat Leon TDI 2002 with 50,000 miles and has had no problem. Thanks.
  • citroen c2 - use of an aerosol klaxon 23 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Gentlemen I don't think this contravenes rule 112 of the highway code, but what do you think?  I keep an aerosol horn in the car.  They are very very loud.  To be honest, I use it to signal my displeasure at the following: litterbugs, jaywalkers, street drinkers, aggressive or lazy or stupid drivers, and ruffians generally.
  • Family Estate 29 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Time to change the (wife's) family car (2002 MkIV Golf,63K,good runner but now too small for 3 kids & 2 dogs). (It's been suggested that my prized (but impractical) BMW E39 535i goes, but I reckon if I manage to get her a suitable replacement for the Golf, she'll back down on this!!)
  • Ford Puma 1.4 1998 - Puma cutting out and loss of power 31 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I am worried about being ripped off senseless by a garage and spending a fortune on a 12 year old car with 126k on the clock.   Cheers!
  • Volkswagen Golf V - Clutch Issues 3 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Hi I have a Mk V Golf  a 1.6 petrol engine its 2.5 years old done 26000 miles. I took it in to a vw garage in march after 2nd gear was not shifting very  easy . After argueing they replaced the 2nd gear syncho which they found to be faulty they told me that the clutch was fine. 3600 miles later the clutch is going and is not covered by warrenty  which I think is disgusting that a intergral driving part of the car is not covered.
  • VW PAssat 2l diesel - 2006 new shape passat cambelt 6 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I have the chance to buy a 2006 PAssat 2 L diesel estate at a good price that has only done 30K miles.  Had one service at 20K main dealer.  It is an ex company car so has been looked after.  Question is does it still have a rubber band cambelt (rather than the sensible chain that ford and others have adopted) and if so when is it supposed to be changed.  I have the old passat and the cambelt went at 70K but they said it was because it has not been done for 5 years.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 1.8 Windscreen surround loose... how to fix! 17 Feb 2010 (Forum)
What is the best way to secure it the windscreen surround - obviously, I am worried about putting any old glue on, in case it perishes the rubber. Should I just take it to a windscreen repair place?
  • Honda Civic UK (2001 - 2005) - 04 1.7 Timing Belt for 1.7 CDTI 14 Jan 2010 (Forum)
It currently stands at 82,000 miles, the salesman said the cambelt is due at 90,000, however there's usually a timed interval as well as milage so does anyone know what this is? I didn't think about it until I'd left the forecourt and realised the car is 5.5 years old (not 4.5, I'm having trouble with the mental arithmetic involving 2010) but thought it would be easy to find on Google, however it's proving to be more difficult than I thought to track down.

  • Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 02 1.8 How to replace passenger side air vent 16 Dec 2009 (Forum)
How would I go about replacing the vent set as an alternative if the wheel does not return round? Any help for a 25 year old female with a boyfriend who does not have a clue about cars would be very helpful!! Thanks
  • The scrapyard this morning. 4 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I assumed the motors would be dismantled, parts cleaned and labelled and on the shelf, I was expecting a kind of Argos - only dirtier! But no - nothing had changed! the boss man told me where the car was and off I went, had to borrow a spanner but got the part off & very cheap too. Didn't see anyone wearing safety goggles, gloves, or hats and they were smoking as well! I'll definately be back if I need anything - only next time I'll wear old shoes and bring me socket set.
  • Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - 94 1.1 Major Battery malfunction 27 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I have never had this problem with any of my cars, so it has puzzled me I recently took the old battery out of my 205 as it was dead, and replaced it with a brand new one, the problem came when I connected the negative lead to the battery... as soon as I did, a crackling sound came from the front left of the engine bay, then smoke started coming out of the part that is on the right hand side that had a belt around it and what looks to be a fan inside the casing I have no idea what the part is called, but it is the only thing connected to the radiator with a belt on that side of the engine Bay
  • Vauxhall Corsa D (2006 - ) - 08 1.4 Has the clutch gone ? 20 Nov 2009 (Forum)
What could have caused the clunk in the clutch pedal - how do you tell if the "clutch has gone". Advice appreciated. (Car is still under warranty)
  • SWMBO and the cyclist. 29 Sep 2009 (Forum)
She wouldn't let said woman pass and laid into her about breaking the law and how the footpath was for people, not bikes. Her excuse was that she was going to rejoin the cycle lane as soon as she could after the parked cars. Wifey told her to get off and push it there to which she called SWBO ' A stupid old trout ' Wife retorted that as she had descended to gutter insults, then it was obvious she had lost the argument !
  • Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 02 TDI Excessive oil Consumption? 26 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Does anyone have any experience of the oil consumption of a Golf TDI. My wife's car (9 months old) has just required 2.5 litres of oil after 12,000 miles. (I work overseas so the oil level had not been checked - and the wife is not very mechanical!) The low oil level was only recognised when the low oil warning light came on and it then required 2.5 litres to get back to the full level - or so I am told.

  • What should I bid...confused! 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I'm planning to go to an auction tomorrow to view a Mini Cooper. It's an ex-lease car, three years old. Here's where I'm confused... Parker's guide reckon it's worth £11k, but there are a few advertised privately on Autotrader for £8k. To be honest I saw the Autotrader first and thought I might be able to buy it for £6k if I was lucky.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 97 1.3 Knocking noise from steering 14 Jul 2009 (Forum)
This on my dads car, we have already had the CV boots and control arms replaced a couple of months ago. The lower wishbones are just over a year old. When steering left the front suspension makes a creeping and knocking noise.
  • Seven Seater Advice 23 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Hi there, I am looking for a bit of advice. I am starting to look for a newer car, to replace an old six seater Honda Shuttle. Looking to spend £5K, but may be able to vary this a bit. I'm looking for something with seven seats that is reliable, comfortable (6 foot 3 and very fussy about driving high-up with my legs clear of the steering wheel).
