  • Petrol / Diesel Hybrid 27 Oct 2023 (Forum)
One  of my interest would be Lexus CT 200h, but I hope there are some other reliable cars. I like the size of small SUV Peugeot 3008, but read it the EGC gearbox is problematic.  Would you have any suggestions ? Thank you
  • Help me choose from these used MPV cars please :-) 1 Mar 2023 (Forum)
Ford S-Max Ford Galaxy Citroen C4 Grand Picasso  VW Sharan Seat Alhambra (I can't locate any though) Kia Sportage   Or early: Berlingo Multispace  Peugeot Partner Tepee Renault Kangoo   Please shout up if you think of other cars that will suit, in my price range. (Though an estate won't give me the inner height I'd like) Mileage isn't too much of a worry, as long as there's great service history.
  • Any car - Name or number? 26 Oct 2020 (Forum)
But I can’t help feeling that names are better – most people can relate to ‘Golf’ or ‘Clio’ whereas ‘308’ and ‘MX5’ are meaningless, especially if there were no familiar MX1 to 4. Our 2008 is too polysyllabic however you say it. Would ‘Peugeot Pony or Piccolo’ have sold more?  If cars become popular the general public tend to provide a pet moniker, e.g. ‘Beetle’ or ‘Mini’, not a number, which the sensible manufacturer then adopts.
  • Handbrakes we will miss (or maybe not) 24 Oct 2018 (Forum)
"Next to the door for some reason": Rootes saloons and a few others; "Umbrella handle, under the dashboard" (2CV; BMC 1800) "Spade-handle - 'yank and twist' " (Citroën GS, Mercedes W126) "Belongs in a plane cockpit" (Mk.1 Megane, Zafira; Peugeot 2008) "Prize for the worst design ever" (Toyota Avensis - the only PRESS button brake in the world, and it's mounted almost completely out of sight.  "Nearly killed myself doing that donut in the carpark; why did no one tell me it operates the FRONT brakes?"
  • Honest John’s Motoring Agony Column 3-9-2016 Part 2 9 Sep 2016 (Forum)
I've seen a Peugeot 50008 2L diesel MPV for £6K with 124K on the clock. Bodywork and interiors fine. It's the e act spec I want and they're v hard to find so I'm tempted by this one. It's been a co pant car and serviced at fairly long intervals of 19, 37, 58, 84 and 108K miles.
  • General pros and cons of Diesel vs Petrol 24 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Thanks for all the help/advice Rick PS I am trying to choose between a (secondhand - about £7k - £10k to spend) Mazda5, VW Touran, and a Peugeot 307 SW - all would suit, but in order to afford a VW or Mazda, I may have to go for a petrol, and I am wondering about the hidden cost implications.
  • 7 seater MPV - Child restraint not allowed in the middle seat ?!? 18 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Apart from the obvious safety concern I am worried there may be some catch for the insurance etc if you go ahead and put 3 seats against the manufacturers advice. We are considering Seat Alhambra, VW Sharan, Ford S Max, Peugeot 5008, Renault Grand Espace, or perhaps Kia Carens. Would be grateful for your experience and advice!
  • Longest Lasting Volume Cars by Brand 24 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Looking around the brand that I seem to see the most is Peugeot, not the first that I would have thought of given the reputation of Frence cars generally, but there seems to be a disproportionate number of N/P/R and later registrations about. You would expect Ford to feature most, simply because of the sheer volume of their cars that are registered.
  • Which diesel - 406 2.0 or a Vectra DTi ? 19 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I have the choice of a 406 hdi gtx (125K) OR a vectra DTI (120K) both on an X plate and both are under £3,000, Ive test driven both, The vectra pulls better or seems to at least i can feel when the turbo kicks in and has FSH, the peugeot 406 has history upto 100k but owner says he serviced it himself there on in. Couldnt feel when the turbo kicked in on the 406 (is this normal ?) and the clutch biting point was very high....normal ?
  • Citroen C3 - Your Comments Please 2 May 2013 (Forum)
In particular, there are numerous owners who complain of the car cutting out ar random - this was a fault reported on Watchdog in the Peugeot 206 and was the specific reason why we did not even consider that one as an option. I have not previously heard of the same problem affecting the C3. In addition, there are lots of electrical gremlins etc.

Am I being unduly pessimistic, are there warning signs and what preventative action should we take. (PS as an aside I hope it's pessimism - after all I drive a 2004 Peugeot 1.6 - I can here you hissing- and it's been as good as gold for 7 years Cheers and thankz in advance for any warming words. • Mondeo vs Mazda 6 - best car for lanky teenage passengers? 26 Jan 2011 (Forum)
When my six foot husband is driving (he can sit further forward in the passenger seat), one of the boys has squashed knees in my Peugeot 407SW.  Have to change on 12th March as lease up.  Badly want the sexy red Mazda 6 but only two more inches in rear compared to the Mondeo which has six more inches.  My conscience is pricking!
  • Modern cars and their massive snouts. 26 Feb 2009 (Forum)
This is obviously a good thing if you are unlucky enough to be run over, but it has made some cars monstrously ugly. A case in point being the Peugeot 308, take a look at one side-on and you'll see what I mean. It's funny, y'know. Cars these days are much better to have a crash in or to be hit by than their predecessors but I feel that all this passive safety comes at the expense of active safety.

  • New car required - help please? 17 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I have suggested no to get hung up on one model but look at all models that in good condition up and 100,000 miles. I have been thinking of Mondeo 1.8TD, Peugeot 406 1.9TD or even Berlingo's or something from the far east. Any suggestions or personal experiences?
  • Not so impressed with SureSell 25 May 2008 (Forum)
Mixed messages from this BCA subsidiary. I'd seen it mentioned in the HJ Telegraph column, so, now our S-reg Peugeot 306 is off to pastures new, I thought I'd give it a go. The helpline number was very helpful, but they wouldn't deal with me directly. I had to call my local BCA - in this case Blackbushe, Surrey.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - front suspension 20 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I suspect they might be the 'nyloc' nut type and seized on if original so possibly main dealer will have replacements. I hope if fixes the noise, I had a Peugeot 405 with a similar sound and it turned out to be the bottom ball joint on that. I know the anti-roll bar bushes may be another area to explore.
  • Old boys cars, (well preserved) 12 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Often 15 years old and yet looking as though they have never seen a winter, or stood out in the summer sun. I was looking at an red Peugeot, going past recently. Fifteen years old, red paint and all... looking like brand new. really new that is, almost like a timewarp, if it existed, would present one. I guess its quite reasonable for someone buying their last car new, to keep it in a heated garage when its salty on the roads or even wet.
  • Celica v 406 Coupe 30 Jun 2007 (Forum)
As he wants piece-of-mind he wants to buy from a main dealer and has found the following two cars available for around £8,000, he will be going for a test drive in each (though we've had a Celica in the family before): Celica 1.8 VVti 51-reg, 35,000 miles. Blue. Peugeot 406 2.2HDi Coupe 52-reg, 40,000 miles. Silver. His main concerns are "character" (something he feels both my Focus mk2 TDCi, and his Almera lack), and running costs - he doesn't want to lose too much in depreciation over the next couple of years, and would probably favour the cheaper day-to-day costs of the HDi, but would it be much more likely to prove less reliable/more expensive in parts/servicing etc than the Toyota?
  • Nissan Primera 2.2dCi cruise control 25 May 2007 (Forum)
I bought it a few weeks ago, private deal, and wonder whether it might be my misunderstanding of how it works. I have not owned a car with cruise before, but I use a Peugeot 806 at work that has it. I switch cruise on, the light illuminates, but often I cannot then set it. It sets eventually, but I might have travelled ten miles by the time it does. I had thought it was a faulty switch, but once it is running I can use the same button to slow the car down.
