  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 96 998c Timing chain rattle 23 Jan 2010 (Forum)
thing is, it came on immediately yesterday. was fine at 9am when i went to the shops, by 10am on the way home the noise was there. the oil/water are fine and are checked weekly and the car starts and drives as normal. can these chains be adjusted up if a bit loose? or is it a complete new chain kit thats needed? is it safe to drive as it is? I know the noise is coming from inside the engine as the noise increases when i remove the oil filler cap as the car ticks over.

Hiya, I was wondering if anybody could help...? Came back from uni to my saxo 1.1 forte , has been sitting in the drive for about 2 months now, through the snow etc, started it up a few times but gave it a 'drive' the other day loads of grey smoke gushing out the exhaust , the engine was very spluttery and struggling to gain speed.
  • Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 06 2.0 Zetec petrol auto, steer clear or buy? 19 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Ive just been for a test drive this weekend in a 06 c-max 2.0 petrol auto,20,000mls. Years ago I had a auto fiesta that was nothing but trouble and was told by garage, gearbox was on its way out (at 25,000) and have stuck to a Renault ever since!
  • Honda Stream (2002 - 2006) - 04 2.0 Fault Code P1739 on Honda Stream - HELP! 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
What's the cause of the fault? We have a long journey this week-end (about 70 miles each way). Is it safe to drive the car with this fault and would not harm a serious damage to the transmission? Is there anything really I have to worry? I would really appreciate your help. Thanks again,

  • Muppetry of the week 6 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Fortunately, exceptionally heavy braking avoids a collision leaving me nothing more to do than lean on the horn and hint by way of polite sign language that I don't think much of his driving. Can you imagine filling out the insurance claim form? They'd never believe you. :-)
  • Which is better - torque or revs? 18 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I use this example because I have only driven low powered petrols. So am I missing a lot in terms of driver satisfaction due to driving a diesel car?
  • Volkswagen Passat (1997 - 2000) - 99 1.8 Loss of power - turbo recently replaced. 12 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Hello, Passat recently had a 2nd hand turbo installed after the other one went bye-bye. Mechanic said I should install a new air flow meter since his test drive had picked up on a loss of power after 15-minutes or so of driving. I bought a replacement air flow meter and installed it but the loss of power is still happening - tonight I drove for about 10 minutes and almost as soon as I hit 70mph, there was a definite sensation that acceleration just fell away.
  • Hypocrytical use of Council cars 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Driving through Hammersmith this afternoon I was rather surprised to see Hammersmith & Fulham Councils choice of car. It had 'Estate Warden' written down the side and had a CCTV camera poking out of the roof.
  • Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - Done The Deal on a new Skoda 19 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I did not want the latter and preferred the new 1.6l diesel but the sums worked out and a final test drive convinced me the ride was OK. A Golf Plus was the most impressive for interior space with a lot more rear legroom behind me. The ride in the rear was car sick inducing though. A Hyundai I30 was impossible to drive with the rear seats folded - my knees were hitting things.
  • Volkswagen Sharan (1995 - 2009) - 01 1.9 Front Wheel juddering when acelerator appli 4 Jul 2009 (Forum)
The juddering occurs when the accelerator is applied I believe there may be a problem possibly with 1) drive shaft/ drive shaft bearings, 2)Engine rubber mounts and bolts wearing/ breaking 3) suspension?. Does anyone else have any other ideas to what might be causing the wheel juddering? how do I search for the faults
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 1.6 Removing rear brake drums 29 Jun 2009 (Forum)
On this car the bolts are Torx head. Does any know the size of the Torx bit which fits these bolts? If I buy the correct size 1/2" drive Torx bit is there sufficient clearance to get to the bolts with standard 1/2" drive extension bars and universal joint? I found this link relating to the Mk 1 Focus which is very detailed and shows the hex head bolts and better access on the previous model.
  • Speed bumps gone for the moment... 19 May 2009 (Forum)
Have the residents, I wonder, got sick of the eternal thumping, graunching and extra pollution made by cars doing their best to drive down a wilfully damaged road, and urged the local authority to restore the road to its proper configuration? I do hope so. If not I will dream up some swear-filter evaders for screaming and kicking purposes here.
  • Parkinson's & 3 year licence 26 Apr 2009 (Forum)
And there is the rub, the cruelest part of the whole situation! By the way, new rules now dictate that although I can continue to drive, I am not permitted to drive mini buses nor anything above 3.5 tons.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 05 2.0tdci starting - struggle to tickover 1 Feb 2009 (Forum)
The engine starts on the key then runs rough until its revved up, after this it runs not bad. Sometimes it starts ok and runs ok. Driving the car it runs fine and the fuel consumption is acceptible (45mpg by filler/50 on the computer) Ford service suggested that there is some loss of compression on 2 cylinders and that there may be bent conrods/gudgeon pins, there is no vibration while driving even at high revs.
  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 02 2.0 ESP/ ASR not working ABS Fault 13 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I recently changed my beloved Zafira GSI for a 2002 Peugeot 307 D Turbo for economy, however within 2 days of owning it I had a problem saying unblock diesel filter, i contacted the dealer took the car back and he arranged for it to go back to peugeot who said it was something to do with FAP but sorted it all out. This morning 3 weeks on i was driving to work when it beeps again and tells me ESP/ASR not working and then ABS fault. It doesn't seem to affect driving but the 2 lights and messages remain on when you restart the car. Can anyone please please help I'm proper fed up!!!

(I think I've found a website that shows me how to do it) I've left it parked since the light came on - is it OK to drive it for a few more miles (how many?) or fix the problem before moving? Thanks anyone.
  • Car Insurance Quotes and the IAM? 19 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Thinking I can drive, I took the IAM test about 18 years ago and been a member ever since. Traditionally the only car insurance companies that seemed to acknowledge it, or give a discount were more expensive so there seemed little benefit.
