  Set in France, it was basically just a series of good car chases, however I noticed that just about every make of French and German car appeared at some point, Citroen XM, ZX, Xantia, Peugeot 205, 306, 405, 605, Renault Clio, Laguna along with BMW's, Audi's and VW, all vehicles getting close up shots of their noses and grills complete with manufacturers badges. I wonder how much the makers of the film were paid off the car companies for this advertising.

  one of my passengers said that the gearlever had to go back so far to be in gear it looked like you had broken its neck! any ideas? please don't say new gearbox! :-D separate point - my peugeot 106 (no power steering) has a larger turning circle than a double decker bus. are they all awkward to manoeuvre or am i just lucky?! luv em.

  I have noticed a rather unpleasant smell which seems to be coming from my car's vents when the aircon is operating, which has been neccesary more than usual in the last few weeks. although I use the aircon all year and have not noticed it before. The car is a Peugeot 406 Estate with a HDI engine, it is fitted with an electronic climate control in place of usual controls for the heater ( which I still haven't worked out ) and is only a year old. Before I go and play hell with the dealer, I would appreciate your experiences of similar problems and any ideas as to what the cause may be and what is required to rectify it.

  Just a word of (I hope) wisdom. When I had to change a wheel on my Peugeot 309 I found that the hook arrangement which holds the spare wheel carrier up had rusted onto the threaded shaft and was immobile to the extent that I had to cut the bolt to get it off. I know that I should have checked it more regularly, but the hook is steel with a forward-facing slot down it which collects salt spray and muck, then directs it round the thread and rusts it on PDQ.

  My question is: Is this injector wear/bore wear problem specific to VW TDIs, or does it apply to all diesels? I have a Peugeot 405 turbo diesel, which has an indirect injection engine. Should I routinely change the injectors after every 85,000 miles, even if they seem to be working well? If so, would having them cleaned or reconditioned be sufficient?

   The reason given is always that assembly lines cannot be stopped or adjusted to suit individual tastes in fitments, but in the age of robots and computer-aided manufacture this argument doesn't hold water, particularly since manufacturers' websites encourage us to configure or customise or build the cars to our own specifications - ha, ha!  Some examples:  I find the Peugeot 2008 a very attractive car, the more so since I have been buying Peugeots for more than forty years but I shan't buy this one because I find the steering wheel and instrument set-up crazy, so that's a deal-breaker; but I can't have normal instruments as an option.
