  • Lexus IS250/220D (2005 - ) - diesel Urban MPG 15 Apr 2006 (Forum)
The salesman told me that the car had only been driven in town I noted that the trip computer shows the average mpg as 24 since new and 23 since re fuel. This seems quite low for a diesel or will it improve as the car is run in. Lexus claim a much higher urban MPG Any experience or comments thanks alan
  • Aaken 'Smartbox' on a turbodiesel (320d) 26 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Am considering the above for my (pre common rail) 320d. Objective: smoother power/torque delivery, without undue detriment to fuel economy. Questions arising: - my insurer will probably accept such a modificaton - but at what sort of increased premium for the increased BHP? - I believe the installation is more or less a plug-in and adjust operation with little or no drilling etc., and which can be reversed as and when the car needs to undergo some other form of diagnostic check.
  • Mondeo TDCI Flashing Glow Plug light 17 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Ford Mondeo, 2000, TDCI 130, Year 2002 Came into work this morning with my glow plug light flashing and a loss of power like the turbo was not working. I have read some backroom reports to say that this could be the fuel pump and injectors but the postings are back in 2003. Has anyone had any recent dealings with this? My car has done 76k which I have had from new. Here's hoping for some help!
  • Omega 2.5V6 raspy exhaust 20 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I've checked the exhaust and the EGR pipes - no splits/holes/damaged baffles etc. Car is not down on power or using excess fuel. Any idea what's wrong with it?
  • Fiesta cutting out 31 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Problem bein car starts first time, then every couple of weeks will cut out when driving for no apparent reason. it turns over as normal cuts out on start. I am assuming its somethin fuel related not the pump as it seems fine. im thinkin maybe the carb, plugs are only a few month old so not them neither, its a 1995 1.1 azura if that helps cheers guys
  • 1995 Corsa 1.2 hesitation 31 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Any suggestions on what may be the cause? Car runs fine apart from this - just appears to "bog down" as if suffering from fuel starvation. Thanks, Alex
  • Making a monkey of the diesel myth 29 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Interesting article in the weekend press where the fuel economy of a 1.1 litre petrol Citroen C1 was compared with a 1.4HDI diesel C1 on a complete lap of the M25 at 50 mph (traffic & cameras permitting). Contrary to expectations the the diesel car achieved 82.7 mpg at a cost of £6.37, whilst the petrol engined motor returned a remarkable 85.5 mpg at a cost of £6.10.
  • Silly signs 9 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Whilst travelling on the A41 today towards Waddesdon: I noticed a sign by the side of the road that read "Delicious Fuel Here!" written in vinyl on black background. Surely the garage assistant must of had a heavy night on the tiles or something because i dont think we should be encouraging the public to drink unleaded instead of water or juice should we now??!!
  • Camper Vans 19 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Does anyone think it would be feasible to buy an old camper, holiday for, say, three weeks, and then sell it again, preferably without losing any money (apart from fuel)?
  • E46 318Ci cutting out 11 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Just concerned, if happens at **mph in the fast lane of a motorway, could be dangerous. Is this something that might have a BMW-specific cause, or is it likely to be a generic problem (fuel starvation, dodgy connection etc)? • Audi A4 Stalling in low revs 6 May 2005 (Forum)
The revs go down to 400 rpm and sometimes junp back to a normal 800 rpm, other times the engine just stops. Any ideas? Could it be bad fuel? (I'll try to fill up with Shell Optimax or another premiun unleaded). Cheers Old Bill
  • Merc e300d inlet manifold removal 26 Apr 2005 (Forum)
The inlet manifold looks starightforward enough - any special things I need to look out for? Once off do I need to de pressurise the fuel system to replace the pipe - + do I need to bleed when the new pipe is fitted? Thanks for advice. Steve
  • £5k, 22yrs old & 60 mile commute 23 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, I was wondering what people would suggest for the above - a total budget of £5k (preferably including insurance) for my 22yr old sister who will be commuting 60 miles a day. I'm thinking it'll need decent fuel economy, she's never had her own car so has no NCD (so insurance will be painful) and it'll need to be reliable. Any sensible suggestions would be appreciated and considered! Thanks, -- Lee Having a Fabialous time.
  • Now here's a silly question.. 19 Apr 2005 (Forum)
ie. with the major components still in situ? The same engine block, pistons, con rods etc. albeit extensive mods to fuel system. Before you laugh yourselfs silly this is a serious question, Now i know it's not practical and costs would be prohibitive but is it possible? Reason i ask is i was moaning to SWMBO about cost of petrol lately and she said why can't you convert it to diesel?
  • Passat Instrument Panel 13 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Three times recently, the information panel (Average speed, fuel consumption, journey time etc) on my year old Passat has gone blank. Each time, it has re-appeared after stopping and restarting. The Dealer, of course, has not heard of this before and says bring it in when it next goes blank. but the chances of this hapening when I'm in the right area are remote.
  • What's a flash disc? 13 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I've previously posted on here regarding my wife's Fiat Punto and the fact that the revs seem to hold very high between gear changes. I've been advised that this is to ensure that emissions regs regarding unburnt fuel are met. The dealer has looked at the car noticed the 'fault' and that's about it. On Friday I received a call from the dealer, however, to tell me that Fiat Technical are sending a 'flash disc' out to all dealers to cure the known problem.
  • AA Petrolbusters 1 Dec 2004 (Forum)
To describe briefly: you can either search on the website or have an e-mail sent to you to inform you of the lowest fuel prices in your area, with individual filling stations named. I have just received an e-mail telling me the service is to close. Ironically, only yesterday I acted on information received to save myself around £1 on a tank of Shell diesel.
  • Stuttering Mk2 Mondeo 14 Nov 2004 (Forum)
These problems have gradually been getting more noticeable over the last 10,000 miles. Apart from this, the engine runs well and average fuel economy is about 34 mpg. Any thoughts on the snatching? Many thanks.
  • seat alhambra warning lights 1 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I have a 2000 seat alhambra 20 valve turbo that keeps flashing all the dash warning lights that then reset them selves. The cruse control was the first thing to stop working, the warning light to the fuel & temp gauge sometimes glow. There are no faults held in the systems memory, the car is dry and has good earths under the bonet, under the seats & on the pillers. moving the wiring under the dash area also has no affect to provoke or clear the fault. all my local dealers are not aware of a common fault.
