diesel Urban MPG - alapppy

Hi

I test drove a lexus new IS250 diesel( manual) today The car has 1300 miles on the ODO.. The salesman told me that the car had only been driven in town I noted that the trip computer shows the average mpg as 24 since new and 23 since re fuel. This seems quite low for a diesel or will it improve as the car is run in. Lexus claim a much higher urban MPG Any experience or comments
