  • Renault Megane II - Periodic start up problems 24 Dec 2011 (Forum)
To actually get the car going I need to start it several times, or gun the engine hard after which it idles and runs normally. The problem seems more prevalent during damp weather, but this occurred this morning (glorious day) and I suspect the problem is becoming more frequent/worse. Having said that the problem does not occur every day, or each time it it started.
  • Swapping two seats for four (or five) 24 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Afternoon folks, Found out a few weeks back that the wife and I are going to leave our mark on the world in June in the form of a little one in June next year... Fortunately the lease on our Smart ForTwo runs out in March so obviously time to swap "fun" with practicality. So I need advice on recomended cars please. Will need: - 5 doors - back seats capable of taking baby seat - room in the boot for a buggy etc - ecconomical (coming from the Smart Diesel giving 60 / 70 mpg) - not look too naff / family car ish - budget between £3k - £5k - be capable of seeing out 5 years life with me and the family - cheap to maintain and run - driving is mostly A-roads with a drive through (a small) town from cold each day and back through town at night.
  • Hyundai ix35 - Ecomony Figures 23 Apr 2011 (Forum)
The quoted mpg figures from the brochure are as follows : Urban 40.4, Extra Urban 54.3 & Combined 47.9 The car had 10 miles on the clock when I bought it, and so I fully expected the engine would need to be run-in. The first 100 miles or so gave 36mpg. After about a week I went for a run and the car was indicating 42mpg, however since then the next 2 tanks full of fuel have both only averaged 34mpg. Hyundai UK said the engine needed 500 miles to bed in, while the suppling dealer said 2K.

  • Land Rover Discovery II - Repair Problems 7 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Motor was returned end of October in time for our holiday we did 1100 miles or so during the holiday no problem and the car was returned to the garage for first service and the LPG setting up (engine supplier had advised not to use LPG for the first 1000 miles). It run fine for another 200 miles and then started running rough and mpg dropped by nearly half. From the middle of November till the end of January the car went back and forth to garage trying to solve the problem, which at that point they decided was the ECU, this was sent off for repair.

  • Peugeot 106 - 1997 Peugeot 106 1.5 Diesel Suspected Air Leak 29 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I'm changing the cambelt tomorrow (its due one soon anyway) and will make sure the injection timing is spot on but as the car runs so well and is so efficient I'm inclined to think this is ok. Any help offered will be greatly accepted! Thanks in anticipation Chris
  • Nissan Micra (2003 - 2010) - 2004 1.2 intermitant engine fault 14 Jan 2011 (Forum)
When I drove it again it ran smoothly for the first few miles and then the power would die intermittent on off on off. Several times on the motorway I had to pull over and then when started up again it would run perfect. I had a full service new plugs etc. The fault continued so I took it to a garage and after leaving it with them for 3 days I was told it was a coil so it was replaced. The following day the car continued to run the same.
  • Vauxhall Astra Estate Dual fuel - Gas leak 28 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Z16SE 02PR8135. Works well on both petrol and gas. I have a gas leak under the bonnet which I smelt when running the engine to defrost the car recently. I am currently running on petrol when the gas leak stops. Using soapy water I found the gas leak which is on a device immediately downstream of the vaporiser with a single hose on the inlet and four hoses on the outlet which I shall call the splitter.
  • Renault Clio 1.5 DCI mk 2 2002 - Oil in coolant, what is wrong with my car! 21 Aug 2010 (Forum)
The car was towed home and left for a couple of weeks as we were going on holiday. Three weeks later, the car starts first time and the engine seems to run fine. I am told that the oil has come up through the coolant. There appears to be no coolant in the engine when the dip stick is checked. There is oil in the engine albeit a bit low since it has escaped from somewhere!
  • Vauxhall Vectra B - Vectra ECU/Engine fault 23 Jul 2010 (Forum)
The ecu light is on the dash (engine symbol) of my 2000 vectra 1.8 16v and it runs pretty badly. I have read all the bumff i can find and believe it is fitted with a Siemens simtec 56.5 ECU with the diagnostics plug under the cover by the handbrake. I have tried to read the codes and my car does the following which does not entirly concur with what it should do on the topbuzz pages.
  • iPhone 4 - Review - problems with antenna? 20 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Harder glass means, in general, easier to shatter too - if dropped. I wasn`t sure whether it could multi task. But it seemed unable. For example, could it run Skype minimised in the background, while polling IMAP  email in the background, while using Opera Mini to surf this site? It seemed unable to do this - and it wouldn`t run Macromedia Flash applications either.

  • Owning a diesel auto - how it feels? 22 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Do I need to put in 2 or L while going up/down hill? Though my usage will be mostly long trips but on some occassions, the car will run less than 5 miles on a single trip (i.e weekend shopping etc.) Will that be harmful for the engine? Any other advise?

  • Toyota RAV-4 (1994 - 2000) - 00 2.0 Poor mpg 26 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The engine management light has always been on since I took ownership, previous owner said that it has been on for years and at the last service the mechanic said that it related to a small problem with a heating fan running but don't know if that would warrant the engine management light being on? Anyway, really dissapointed with the mpg so wondering how much Toyota will fleece me to run diagnistics to determine if there is a problem that would affect fuel consumption?
  • Volvo S40 (2004 - ) - 06 2.0 Starting problem 20 Oct 2009 (Forum)
These initially were rare and merely inconvenient, but got progressively worse. As the warranty was about to run out I booked the car into the local Volvo garage. Initially it had a software download, which failed to cure the problem, then a new ignition switch, which was similarly unhelpful. The car then would not start at all, and was towed to the garage, outside warranty.

  • BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 01 3.0 Some advice... 14 Jul 2009 (Forum)
The paperwork was okay, and seemed to have been regularly serviced, although it seemed to have missed a brake fluid change one of the designated intervals. I requested that the car was started as soon as I saw the car, and leave it running while I checked over it. After about 8 or 9 minutes, the temperature rose beyond the midpoint. I currently have an E46, and the temperature never rises beyond the midpoint whatever I do. I then went for a test run, and the temperature needle duly settled at the midpoint.
