• Ford Focus 1.6 lx - Car on driveway since Sept 21 Jun 2011 (Forum)
  Fast forward till now and the car is still sitting on my driveway, SORN'ed and 3 Months past MOT. I have been starting it up every few days as advised by a friend to keep the battery working, however as it has been without tax or insurance I have not moved the car. As it is now more than obvious that my niece will not be taking the car off my hands anytime soon, I have resolved myself to cut my losses and sell it.

  The truck driver decided to "bump start" the car and it burst into life as if nothing was wrong!. All the garage mechanic has done at present is test the battery that's OK, the immobiliser light appears to be functioning as it always has. Anyone have any ideas cos I think the mechanic hasn't.
• VW Golf Mk 5 - Non-start 8 May 2011 (Forum)
  Remote locking still works fine, dash has no system 2 immo identifier at all and just simply reads Engine Fault, Workshop. I've checked fuses in side of dash and next to battery. There is a clicking noise (similar to faulty relay) coming from steering column. Can anyone help?? Thanks in advance

  In 2007 we bought a BMW X5 from a local car dealer we were friends with. Not long after we had it, things started going wrong, battery, electrics, catch on boot, etc......this soon lead to major things like, gas suspension, drives, fuel pumps etc. After investigation we discovered it had been clocked, and that it was an ex police vehicle.
• Nissan Almera Tino (petrol) 2003 auto - Reluctant to start - starter motor sounded odd 21 Feb 2011 (Forum)
  Jumped in, turned key, sounded normal for 2 secs and seemed to start then dash lights came on/stalled. Turned key again, lively battery turned over starter motor again but this time the starter motor sounded what I can only describe as wheezy and not the same as usual, not engine cranking sound if you know what I mean. Car would not start, starter motor wheezy sound heard (never heard it before and been driving 20 years) and not the usual sound of car turning over to start.
• Ford Focus 06 Zetec automatic - Engine systems fault/ acceleration reduced error 18 Feb 2011 (Forum)
  Took the car back to the garage and they did an electrical diagnostic which they said showed "cranking voltage low on starting" and they replaced the battery. Picked it up from the garage and as I was driving away the same messages came up again. Took it straight back to the garage and they phoned Ford technical who said there was sometimes problems with moisture so they cleaned all plugs.

    hillman avenger ford fiesta austin maxi austin maestro vw golf vw polo  came close to breakdown but kept going peugeot 309 ford fiesta rover 214 toyota carina toyota carina  vw polo toyota starlet rover 216 honda civic honda jazz  suffered from battery problems Triumph vitesse (classic) differential failed but at 46 years old can't complain too loudly about that citroen c2  semi automatic gearbox gave some tense moments but always got me there citroen picasso chevrolet matiz chevrolet kalos What are other people lists like?

  Husband being a mechanic knew it was serious with just the whirring noise like a fan instead of an engine. parked up fine next day dead. obviously the weather and the battery was the obvious signs but it was more serious. Luckily this was still under warranty as Vauxhall charged £300 to link it to the computer, Result the CAM CHAIN, and with hundeds more onto the bill for timing chain,  cam chain tensioners, gasket, cylinder block gasket,  filter element etc etc  AND WITH ONLY 20,000 on the clock.NOT GOOD  I expect more miles from this !!
• '99 Megane 1.6 - Renault Megane '99 Intermittent Immobiliser failur 23 Jan 2011 (Forum)
  I did a successful resync of the key fob following the instructions here (http://www.programyourkeys.com/Renault_Megane_Key_Remote_Control_Programming_Instructions.html). and the problem persists. The fob (RF+Chip) unlocks the doors just fine, so I'm fairly certain that it isn't a fob battery issue either. I've tried to determine the four digit unlock code but haven't had any luck with that either (http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?content=Test_for_Renault_Key_Immobiliser_failures_emergency_recode), as I have an 8 digit ignition key number which doesn't seem to match up with the software floating around the internet.

  hi , please can anyone help me had my car for bout 2 months now , i wanted to downsize for cheaper tax n insurance etc , and i made a stupid mistake by swapping this car for my focus ghia 2.0 , the guy that swapped is a best friends partner and did lots of replacement stuff on the peugeot before handing it over to me the car is really doin my head in now , it simply cuts out everytime i turn the engine on for the first time after entering the car , it also is using alot of petrol to say it's only a 1.4 engine around 30 pounds a week petrol which is same as i was putting in the focus 2.0  it works fine once i restart the engine and as soon as i stop and turn engine off , the same thing happens again , even if i have left car for 2 mins to pop into shop , which seems silly as the engine would still be warm , so don't think it's a cold start error it's had new battery , plugs , had full service , filter replacement p.s is it me or are the peugeots slow cars ?? BIG mistake swapping but i'm stuck with this car now plz help
• Ford C-MAX 2.0 TDCI GHIA - C-Max electrical failure due to heated rear window 9 Dec 2010 (Forum)
  Had an issue with battery not charging and fault was isolated to the alarm sounder.  During invesitigation at main dealer multiple circuits were isolated to locate fault.  After car had been fixed multiple items on car fail when heated rear window turned on, fault is not consistent and can not locate fault.

  Now when I parked up I turned it off and then tried to start it again and it would not turn over fast enough to start (as if the battery had gone flat). I left it for 10 mins and went back, i noticed that one of the HT leads was loose so connected it back up and tried to start it again. This time it started no problem but now it runs very lumpy as if its sometimes running only on 3 cylinders and sounds very tappety, also the light are still dimmer than they should be.

  Sods law dictated I had just filled it with fuel and was parked next to the pump having just paid, with a queue behind waiting...... I have changed the remote batteries, but still the randomness returns. Any ideas for a cure would be much appreciated. I suspect the immobiliser chip in the key is not being read for some reason, but why and how to cure it is a mystery!

  my customer has brought in his 307 hdi he says he pulled up at home and stopped engine then he came out 15min later and it wouldnt start he flatend the battery trying and put car into economy mode so no windows central locking or nothing will now work ive tried toget the engine started but failed ive checked all the obvios stuff levels fuses etc so i plugged it in to my snap on computer and varios fault codes come up 1 was low pressure pump malfunction which was p1180 so iremoved the sender unit only to find that it does not have an in tank pump?

  The odd thing is that car had been standing for several months and it started fine after a battery charge and ran great for about 12 miles and the the fault re-occured. Can anyone offer any advice on a cause of my problem.   Thanks   zac

  So at the moment, courtesy of maplins and plenty of burns, cuts and swearing, jimmy rigged a fused switch to the battery, and the fan's work fine!!!!??? Where is the cooling fan switch or relay? and how do I test them??? The "Service Engine Soon" light did come on twice, but after I rigged it, the light cleared.

  I picked one up and my hand bridged the antennas.The signal fell off - and I wondered if the designers had ever gripped a car radio antenna and noticed the same? we knew that would happen as school kids. It looked good though and it seems the battery is replaceable on this one - although it lacks a physical qwerty keyboard. Pity about that.. It seems to have a hardened glass front and back, with no raised rim to protect it. Glass is glass I thought and  softer than many minerals in the environment - including  microscopic quartz particles, in the atmosphere - and setted on hard surfaces on which the phone may be placed.

  It has not been started in over a year but was running ok before it was taken off the road. I got it transported to my garage last week and fitted a new battery and glow plugs to it. The engine turns over ok on the starter and the long you keep it going the faster it turns over until you think its is going to start but it never does. After trying to start it i get white smoke out the exhaust so it is getting fuel and also when I unscrew a glow plug and earth it gainst the block it glows red when the ignition is turned on so I am quite confident that the glow plugs are getting powered ok.

  The low down: (No warning lights, no starting issues, engine jumps to life no problem, battery is fully operational - Volt meter tested) Okay so here's the story, had the vehicle for 12 months, no issues, Clutch has been changed at 60K miles. Car has now done 98K. Recently the vehicle has been unable to keep a steady idle or tick over.

No carriages of laquered wood, pulled by fine horses and tended by sophisticated tastes of a century gone. Just rough, donkey pulled carts then - rough wood shafts and old lada wheels - incubus snorting and swigging cider while puffing smoke into the empty bottle to meet personal emission laws of 2012.
