• 05 Astra 1.8 - Rattle on startup 12 Aug 2007 (Forum)
  I've bought an Astra H 1.8 automatic 55 plate via Network Q. I'm new to Vauxhalls so I'm not sure of a rattle on startup, it comes from the offside of the engine where I think the belts would be. After a few miles the sound disappears, I thought it could be something running short of oil at startup.

  hi been thinking of changing my mk2 focus automatic. been looking at leon dsg and the civic i shift. looking up info on the web about the dsg gearbox i found info on reports that ford and volvo to start using their own dsg type gearboxes in late 2007. no real time schedule or info on which models will be using it. do any members have any other knowledge of when and which models thanks in advance

  Any advice which one to go for? They will be basic model probably 1.6 or 1.8 petrol engine. Would like an automatic but will be happy with a manual. {Typo in subject header corrected - DD}

  I have a 2002 Mondeo Tdci (128 HP) automatic with a pneumatic variable vane turbo charger. Last year (40,000 miles) it began to lose power below 2,000 rpm and there was hesitation at 1,500 rpm. The Garage could find nothing listed on the computer.

  My 2006 E-Class was involved in an accident - cost of repair approx 5/6k. however since then it has come to light that the chassis is bent and needs a jig to re-allign. as the car is worth 27k market value the insurers wont right it off. Becuase the chassis is bent would that mean an automatic cat d and should it be written off? should I be concerned that it will be re-alligned?

  Hi, The interior fan on my mark 4 golf (the basic model, not the fancy automatic digital climate one) only works on full blast. The air con light comes on when it'd turned on, but no air comes out of the vents unless the knob is turned to the '4' setting. I''m seriously hoping it's a simple fix and a matter of a faulty knob... any ideas please?

  I have noticed that most of the new German cars I have been in recently automatically lock their doors when the car is in motion and then unlock again when stationary. Whilst I see this is a safety feature, it must surely put a lot of wear on the door lock actuators compatred to 'normal' use.

  My wife runs round in a M-Reg Micra with an automatic gearbox. Now sometimes stiff to get into gear it is also making an awful grinding noise. Anybody know of a cheap repair that will get us anopther few months out of it? I will scrap it eventually but while I don't want to strand the missus I also can't afford a replacement yet.

  Can rhd Opels be imported from Germany or Netherlands? The model I want, Vectra Estate (aka Caravan / Stationwagen) Design 3.0CDTi automatic, has a higher towing limit than the Vauxhall version. I know rhd Opels can be imported from Ireland but the 3.0CDTi isn't available there. Which other countries drive on the left other than UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand?

  I see that the Focus TDCi CVT automatic is again availabel for sale, after a long period when it seemed nobody knew just when this variation would be available. Anyone know why this should be, as I still can't find any mention of it on the Ford UK site (no doubt someone will tell me it is there)?

  I own a Motorcaravan based on the Ford Transit and am thinking of changing it for a newer model equipped with the Ford Durashift automatic transmission. What I would like to know about is other peoples impressions of driving such a vehicle, for example, is the gear change smooth, how reliable has it been, any problems noticed when driving and especially how does it perform on really steep hill starts?

  Hi all it's my first post on the site so please be gentle. The car is a clio 1.4 automatic on a K reg. Can any body tell me how to get the gear selector cable off from the gearbox end please. Ive tried pulling the end off from the pivot but no luck. I didn't know if it's held on with a circlip or something or am i just not pulling hard enough.

  Re. the query about using cruise control on an automatic in a 30 mph zone (in a recent HJ Telegraph column). HJ advised this was bad for the car. Can someone please tell me why? Surely CC holds it in the same gear as you would otherwise at a given speed (in an auto).

  Flicking through some road tests on The Indpendent web site and I came across this brief description of the Laguna estate :- Renault Laguna Sport Tourer 2.0T: £21,645 Supercharged, front-mounted 500bhp V8 makes this a near-dragster, helped by ultra-responsive automatic gearbox, and folding metal roof is neat. Very desirable. I didn't realise the Laguna was such a powerful motor...... should have got one of this for the same price as my new Outback ! jd

  I think the switch and relay are okay. Is there an electronic device that sits between the switch and relay that determines when to automatically switch the thing off (after 15mins, I think)? If so, where is it and how can I test it? Any ideas? Cheers, John.

  I have a mk 1 golf 1.5 automatic. It's a 1979 model. Problem is that the car stalls when it comes to a halt. This is only a problem in the first few minutes of driving. It restarts with no problem and then never cuts out once warmed up.

  Regarding the Speed Cameras on the back of the M25 gantries...myth or truth? 1) When the signs are illuminated, the cameras automatically adjust to the prevailing speed 2) The camera behind the FIRST new speed limit is set at teh value of the previous speed limit sign 3) When no speed limit is shown, the cameras are set to 70 (ish) My guesses: 1) True 2) True 3) True Anyone KNOW any different?
