Ford Fiesta 1.4 Encore S Reg - Ford Fiesta Knocking from front, noise whilst driv 15 Jul 2011 (Forum)
The shocks seem fine to me. Im wondering if this is associated with the car pulling? 3, Whilst driving there is a noticeable noise coming from the engine. Like a du du du du spinning noise. I havent noticed any problems with the actual drive itself. The noise does not occur when the car is idle or when its stationary and in gear. -
Ford Focus TDCi "03" Reg. - Engine Management System 10 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I drove my Focus at high speed and the Engine Management System (EMS) light began to flash and the engine began to stutter. Without stopping the engine, I tried to drive off the motorway but the engine just died on the hard shoulder. I restarted the engine, the EMS light went out and I was able to drive 35 miles to a Ford dealership with no problems. The dealership did a "diagnostic" on the car and found that the fuel filter (replaced in the previous 2 years) needed to be replaced and they did this. -
1.2TSI DSG - DSG hesitancy - is this right? 19 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Querying with the Skoda salesman after handing the keys back, he explained that DSG transmissions 'learn' the driving characteristics of their respective owners, and as this was a demonstrator, it wasnt familiar with anyone's driving style (it had less than 300 miles on the clock). Is this true? We're both steady drivers (especially when familiarising with a car on a road test). -
VW Golf 1.9 tdi / 1.6 petrol approx 03 plate - Diesel or Petrol 11 Feb 2011 (Forum)
i used to own a Mazda5 diesel which I have had to get rid of due to change in jobs and lower milage may run me into DPF problems (although I had some minor ones before having read on this i have heard its a living nightmare on lower mileages) now having driven diesels for the past 15 years due to high mileage covered I think its fair to say i have an affection for them, now although my mileage wont justify it as an economical option i dont feel as comf***able in a petrol, what i wanted to know is if i purchase a non DPF diesel on an average ,mileage of approx 7000-8000 miles (mainly local driving) and get a 6 month oil change between services taking the usual precautions of leting it run idle a few minutes after journey completed etc should i avoid any major problems? also on some runs the engine may not fully warm up. i appreciate that my driving patterns will not be ideal for a diesel, but my brothers 306 1.9td seems to cope well with similar driving habits. whilst i can live with a petrol i would much prefer a diesel. thank you to all posters in advance. -

VW golf gti - cutting out when warmed up, speedo jumping, 14 Oct 2010 (Forum)
The problem occurs when the engine is warmed up, you can pretty much pinpoint when its going to happen, after about 15 mins of driving the car will cut out(at speed), and wont even fire up when you use the momentum to bump it. it just judders violently and cuts out anyway. the needle also jumps up and down whilst doing this, after waiting at the roadside for about 5mins, the car will start up fine and drive very nicely, but sure enough after a few minutes of driving it will do the same thing. -
PPeugeot 306 Turbo Diesel - Fumes in cabin urgent help needed 12 Oct 2010 (Forum)
There is an issue of fumes coming into the car when driving. It does not start straight away, gets bad after about 20minutes. Fumes are bad when driving under 30mph and in slow traffic. There is a very small oil leak behind the engine, couple of drips on ground after about 2 – 3 days. -
SatNavs in Africa 21 Sep 2010 (Forum)
(Been there, done that) D. Leave SatNavs for Europe. And, they are best not looked at while you’re driving, especially during the dark hours. -
Honda CRV - Hairline Scratches On Windscreen 9 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Really not impressed with the wiper blades on the CRV - brand new wiper blades and they leave lines when it is raining. The main wiper blade is split in two and at the split level it always leaves a line at verage driving. Only driving at speed do the wipers appear to work effectively. -
Nissan Leaf - the car to drive the recovery? 18 May 2010 (Forum)
Spend some of the petrol money which used to be siphoned from your bank account on goods and services, just when they need it, and when all done, head home on your zero-emission, £1-way. If I start seeing charging points in my usual haunts, it wont be long before a Leaf is on the drive. £1 for 100 miles..... -
FIAT Panda - Fiat Panda 1.1 Review - "faster than a cockroach" 17 May 2010 (Forum)
A lot of people moan about the ride but it is better than the MK4 Fiesta and the 99 Corsa B I used to have. Driving wise I love the high up driving position and all the switch gear feels very well made. The doors shut with a nice clunk The brakes still need bedding a bit but hopefully they will get sharper with use. -
Citroen C3 LX 1.4 Petrol . - Citroen C3 engine idle issue 26 Apr 2010 (Forum)
After 10 to 20 seconds the idle picks up again, and stays around or over 1k rpm and it is fine to drive. If i drive the vehicle before i have waited 10 to 20 seconds it strugles and barely moves. - also if i drive it for a while and come to a junction or stop for any reason you can feel the car running "up and down" so to speak.. the idle rev is not consistant. -
Ford Fusion (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.6 petrol automatic, cutting out 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Hi I have a Ford Fusion automatic 04 plate, I have had it since march this year. The problem I have with it is that when Im driving it just cuts out, sometimes im doing speeds of 30mph sometimes im doing 60mph, I will be driving along and it suddenly cuts out and jolts to a stop nearly causing a crash. I am baffled as its an automatic and it seems strange to cut out. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 1.9 GT TDI 150pd juddering/black smoke @ 3000rpm 19 Dec 2009 (Forum)
So I took for a service at a VW and Audi 'specialist' they reported that another boost pipe had a screw screwed into it as well as my turbo seeping oil ( not a major amount though)??? I have also been told to drive without the MAF plugged in to see if it drives any better, but if anything it drives worse? has anyone had a similar problem with their car or come across the same problem and what was done to rectify the issue? -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 2.0 Strange Judder ????? 12 Dec 2009 (Forum)
(I did decide it was not a good idea to drive it home because of this) I didnt really get into any other gears as i could only drive it in a small car park so couldnt tell you if it like it all the way through the box. Now im thinking maybe something to do with fuel???? -
Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - 94 1.8 misfire/judder when idle 12 Oct 2009 (Forum)
hi new to forum recently bought a old cav as a winter hack while motorbike comes off the road for the winter.was running perfect when i bought it.parkesd it on the drive about a week later replaced rocker cover gasket as it was leaking, topped oil up with some 15w40 semi synthetic.started it up and now there is a horrible vibration when inside the car and the engine is slightly misfiring.removed plugs to find out which cylinder was misfiring seems to be no.4 as plug is a soot black colour where the other 3 are tan.replaced all plugs and leads but still with no joy.is it just co incedence that this occured when i changed rocker cover gasket.also cyl no.4 lifter is tappy which it wasnt before i changed gasket.the old gasket was a cork one and had to be scraped off,if a bit of old gasket flung intothe top of the engine.could this cause the misfire.or is it a sticky lifter as it had sat for 2 weeks before i bought it.i have put some hydralic lifter treatment in incase it is a sticky lifter but cant drive it as am not insured yet so can only rev it on the drive to work the treatment round. any help suiggestions greatly appreciated as unsure what it could be it is a 94 lreg cavalier 1.8 auto fitted with c18nz engine and it has the ignotion where there is no dizzy cap.thanks -
Advice Needed: Mondeo diesel 155 or Octavia 140 18 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The other option is an Octavia 2.0 diesel 140 although I have seen a VRS 170 version with 82K mileage for just under £9k but my head is telling me to be sensible and exclude this. Given my location, I will have to travel to test drive the cars so I am trying to gain as much info as possible in advance. Obviously I am familiar with a mondeo but has anyone driven both the mondeo 155 and Octavia 140 and can offer me a comparison in terms of performance, drive, build quality, running costs etc. -
Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 05 2.0 Double front suspension coil failure 30 May 2009 (Forum)
Can anyone advise me on what would cause both suspension coils to snap at the same time? This happened to me when I was driving my children to school last week. The driver's side coil pierced the tyre and I am told that I very narrowly avoided what could have been a tragic accident. This is our family car and neither my husband or I drive irresponsibly. -
Volkswagen Beetle (1998 - ) - I will reward a genius who solves this one!! 29 Jan 2009 (Forum)
OK I AM REEEEALLY stumped as to what to do....can anybody solve this-- I bought a car in Spain, English plated, left hand drive, VW Beetle 2000 for cash. The garage took my passport, driving license copies etc.. and claimed to be sending off to the DVLA to get it all put in my name. THEY DIDNT, a year later after arguing with them and asking what I could do myself to sort this out I was told to "get rid of it" and stop hassling them, then they shut down....nice. -
Cars are different inside 17 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I am now prepared to eat a bit of humble pie. Last week I had the opportunity to drive one in Germany for a while. What a nice wee car. Great fun and such a funky interior. I still don't think I would buy one but only because it's a bit small for my needs. I have completely revised my opinion by looking at it from the inside out and feeling how it drives.
