1.9 GT TDI 150pd juddering/black smoke @ 3000rpm - ch4chi

Hi, my 02 golf 150pd is giving me major problems, when it reaches 3000rpm it starts to judder (heavily) and throws out loads of black smoke, it then takes upto 30 seconds (sometimes longer) before any form of acceleration is possible, it also goes into 'limp mode' on motorways where I struggle to reAch anywhere near 60mph!

I was told that it was my boost pipes, so I replaced 2 but to no avail, took it for an mot yesterday and it failed on the emissions test! So I took for a service at a VW and Audi 'specialist' they reported that another boost pipe had a screw screwed into it as well as my turbo seeping oil ( not a major amount though)???

I have also been told to drive without the MAF plugged in to see if it drives any better, but if anything it drives worse?

has anyone had a similar problem with their car or come across the same problem and what was done to rectify the issue? Any help would me much appreciated

please take into consideration I am not very clued up on terminology or technically/ mechanically gifted when it comes to motors! So I apologise if I've missed anything or come across a but thick!!!

PD 150s have problems with premature camshaft lobe wear (mostly due to wrong oil being used but not always), the symptoms are a nasty misfire.

It might be worth you having the cam cover removed and the cam and follewers checked for excessive wear

Thanks for the reply, need to check but I'm sure I have reciepts for the cam shaft being replaced a while ago (by previous owner), would this issue bring up a fault code,as I had the car looked at today and it showed no fault codes?

Problem I have is no one seems to want to investigate and thoroughly look over the car, the mechanics thus far just say 'I'm 90% sure it's the turbo'!

Could anyone recommend a good mechanic who knows their vw's around Birmingham?
