Hyundai trajet - Accident in one way road 16 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Just collected my young son from school. I was driving the right way down a narrow one way road when a car came out of a small garage and drove head first into me. Substantial damage to my car which is 12 year old. I have had it from new and only done 48,000 miles. -
Buying advice needed: Family car - thinking ahead 14 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I shall start saving for a replacement vehicle. I'd like advice here if possible. About me: 43, live in London. Drive mainly short journeys but coupled with the odd long haul run up the M40 to my parents in Oxford. I'd like to long drives in France each year, but my wife isn't keen. I'm happy to buy a nearly new or 3 year old vehicle which I would run till it falls ot pieces. -
peugeot 405 - steering loose and wander (peugeot 405) 11 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Hi, i would like to ask for a little advice , i had the tracking done about 6 weeks ago , the 1st time it took this lad an 1 hour and 30 mins to do and it was all over the place afterwards, i took it back the next day and they spent another 45 mins on it , he showed me that the car was in specification, by taking me under car, right heres the prob, when driving the left hand front wheel feels loose, i could be driving down the road and for no reason it would feel as tho the wheel is steering to the left until i correct it with the steering wheel it doesnt matter what camber the road is set , it has also been clunking over minor bumps since the tracking was supposedly done, also the lad on the 1st occasion was using a hammer to knock some on the left hand wheel so mayb he has bent or dislodged something, it has become quite scary to drive , what i am asking is for any ideas to what come be loose or worn, i have tried the dry park method of check the steering for play and there is no movement lost between the steering wheel and the road wheels, so i`m pretty sure it isnt the steering rack which only leaves the suspension, hope someone could share some advice, thanks in advance ,simon -
Corsa C 1.2 16V - Drive by wire hrottle problem 7 Jun 2014 (Forum)
When the engine is running, ticking over nicely, I do the same with the pedal and when the revs build up to roughly 2500ish the engine stumbles (when driving the speedo drops to zero) but recovers and goes higher. When I press down quickly on the pedal, the engine stumbles, warning lights come on and a loud sucking noise can be heard from the air filter box...then when it recovers the warning lights go out. -

Ford Ka - Brakes & discs needed at a ridiculous cost 11 Feb 2014 (Forum)
The other thing that worried me a bit was whether they can refuse to give me my car back on the grounds that it's dangerous, he didn't say it in so many words but kind of insinuated he wouldn't let me drive it as it is too dangerous. Any help or advice would be much appreciated! -
Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi 2007 - Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi turbo going? What to do? 16 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Hi all. I have a 2007 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi, with 64k miles (90% motorway driving at 70-80mph). The car has basically been 100% reliable since I bought it when it was nine months old, but recently it has starting 'hestitating' during driving. It feels like a momentary (less than a second) loss of power and usually happens when cruising on a light throttle or pulling away from a junction. -
Ford KA - steering column & humming noise 3 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I wonder if anyone can give me some advise. I have recently purchased a Ford Ka that came with 12 months MOT. I've been driving it for the past 4 weeks and a couple of weeks ago noticed a funny smell coming form the air vents at times when driving. I put this down to the outside atmosphere. Then last week I started to hear a sound coming from the steering column that sounds like there's grit rattling around inside of it someh were. -

Peugeot 106 1997 1.5 Diesel - Both driveshafts a bit loose. (newbie) 20 Sep 2012 (Forum)
They also clunk when starting off) The clucking seems to be coming towards the engine side on both , and not the CV end. I am going to try and swap both drive shafts myself (thanks to YouTube :) ) ...but I am wondering if it's something inside the engine that's loose? (Dunno, if that is a daft question ?) ps Independently, the car had been up on a ramp at national & they confirmed the drive shafts were loose. -

Jaguar X-Type - Knocking noise from rear when braking 11 Jul 2012 (Forum)
However this noise is not present at all when driving without braking so I guess this must be some issue with the brakes. It is very strange as the car was fine before. The only thing I noticed when reversing the car out the drive was that it felt as though a brake was sticking when I tried to move it. -
Volkswagen Golf IV - VW Golf oil leak - new engine?? 25 Feb 2012 (Forum)
It was towed to a garage and I was told it had an oil leak around the pump area and that the engine was making a bad noise. I was advised not to drive it and replace the engine. I am a student and replacing the engine is not an option for me. It was filled with 3 litres of oil so I could take it home. During the hour of driving I heard no worrying noises and managed to do 60 the majority of the way. -

Subaru Outback - Cruise control 22 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Cruise control in the Telegraph OnLine today 21st Jan. I only used cruised control once, when I was driving a Chev all-wheel-drive ambulance in Zambia. That gave a very relaxed drive for several hours until the bonnet flew off due a faulty catch giving way. I was so amazed that I didn’t react for seconds before I collected myself to cancel the cruise control. -
98 Fiesta 1.4 Clutch Gearbox pulling off prob 26 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I have recently bought a 98 Fiesta Chicane 1.4 zetec for a good price, but since I have bought it I have realised it has a terrible problem which I unbeleivably missed when test driving. When I first pull off in 1st gear the car jerks and the revs drop just like a learner driver, but if I pull off slowly and ride the clutch the car is fine most of the time. it also jerks if I change into second at low speeds but after that the car is fine when I am driving at higher speeds the car drives perfect. -
Swapping two seats for four (or five) 24 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Will need: - 5 doors - back seats capable of taking baby seat - room in the boot for a buggy etc - ecconomical (coming from the Smart Diesel giving 60 / 70 mpg) - not look too naff / family car ish - budget between £3k - £5k - be capable of seeing out 5 years life with me and the family - cheap to maintain and run - driving is mostly A-roads with a drive through (a small) town from cold each day and back through town at night. Occasional motorway driving in the week and usually most weekends to visit family / friends.
