  • How clear is your dashboard (%age) 9 Feb 2006 (Forum)
(10 marks) Volvo S80 - 90 -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • Computer Related Questions - Volume 80 13 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Has anyone had any dealings with them? My specifications are basic enough but I would like a second hard-drive to back-up to. Is it best to install a 2nd one myself, get a PC with 2 installed or get an external one to plug in? Can a 2nd drive be installed in a laptop? Thanks in advance.
  • Idle speed in Ford Zetec 1.6 6 Jan 2006 (Forum)
The only way to start the car has always been (since I have had it): start car without touching accelerator, wait for 'hunting' to stabilize, then drive off. Any throttle while starting results in instant stall. Driving off before the idle speed stabilizes results in a stall at the next road junction or any other reason for stopping the car. Is all of this normal for this model?
  • m reg rover 414 sli rear shocks 21 Dec 2005 (Forum)
my dad thinks that the rear shockabsorbers or the springs themselves are past their best because he has said that when he drives his car over certain bumps or releived manholes he feels a kind of bottoming out feeling despite the fact that it drives normal over rough terrain and on smooth roads. he has done the bounce test and they return after one bounce. personally i think that it is due to the tow bar,as i think it is a little low but is fitted correctly. has he got something to worry about or is he just imagining this?
  • whats the perfect car for me 4 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Here is a list, in order of priority! 1. safety. in a smash, needs to keep me safe. plus wife and kiddies. 2. automatic. driving with two mobiles at each ear, means..no gearstick allowed. 3. space. needs to fit golf clubs, bike and weekend fishing kit. also, kids + wife. 4. cost. needs to fit into 15K 5. reliability. can't be breaking down on route to golf, or fishing, or bike rides. 6. look and drive.
  • Speeding (mostly excl cameras) XXXI 12 Aug 2005 (Forum)
It's just a pity there aren't more unmarked police cars on the road to catch these potential killers. One guy was late for his girlfriends passing out ceremeny, this was his excuse for driving at nearly 100mph, and driving inches off the back of a police car, UNBELIEVABLE,.........the more they catch the better.I honestly don't know how these coppers keep there cool when dealing with these pink fluffy dice .
  • Vectra clutch slip 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
There is no point taking it to the local dealer as it only happens after a long run and it behaves impeccably locally. They are hardly likely to take it on a long test drive nor would I want it driven so by a fitter for such miles. It is tempting to drive it 'till it breaks (If I try hard enough I'm sure I could do it in a few days) and then get them to fix it. Thanks in advance
  • Me got parking ticket, can i appeal? 1 Jun 2005 (Forum)
But the fact is, there were IIRC no warning notices around the area i parked in & none i can see whilst entering the High Street!!!! Does anybody have any opinions on this??? Cheers -- Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)
  • Renualt Kangoo - Strange noise! 30 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I have recently bought a 1999 Kangoo 1.9 van which has a strange grinding/scraping noise from the front end under the following conditions - 1) When you depress the clutch when slowing up to change gear (the noise continues when you take the car out of gear/or keep the clutch depressed) 2) Lifting your foot from the accelerator 3) It does not happen when you are driving at a constant speed or accelerating. I have had the discs and pads replaced and the FNS drive shaft which was pretty dodgy in the last week. The only other symptom is a groan from a front wheel bearing which starts around 30-40mph.
  • insurance ripoff 12 Mar 2005 (Forum)
having insured daughter for £60 per month (on top of the normal premium) to learn to drive in our little corsa to find she never bothered driving it we decided to cancel and save soem money. I rang up and was told that we would get a refund. Great! How much? £6-50. That's not much considering we were paying £60 extra a month.
  • Selling an old car 2 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Been several cases recently where sellers have given their address to potential buyers, only to find they dont turn up at the arranged time .... but turn up at a later date to just take the car (or any other sitting on the drive for that matter). Got me really worried. Don't like the idea of giving my address to strangers, but cannot drive the car to them as its currently SORN (and the carb needs looking at). Tried advertising through the local club, but its only members who get to see the ads.
  • Mondeo cold runnning problem 29 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Problem - The car will always start brilliantly even in the coldest/dampest weather, revs are higher than standard warm tickover sounda about right, everything seems fine untill you try to drive away. Its almost impossibe to pull away without HUGE kangaroo's you have to rev the engine like mad, this is coupled with a huge throttle lag if the pedal is depressed quickley. After about 4 mins of driving BINGO everything is ok!
  • Ford Escort - Bouncing Speedo! 21 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I've just taken a '96 (N Reg) (96k miles) 1.6 Ford Escort for a test drive and discovered that the speedometer bounces around by about 5-10mph. I've heard that this can be due to worn differential bearings and that the only way to solve it is by replacing the whole gearbox.
  • Is there a new French headlight law? 15 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I am virtually certain that I read somewhere that from 1 October 2004 (or possibly 1 November 2004) that you are required to drive in France with head (side?) lights during daylight hours, during the winter. I ask only because having been in France (open roads without cars - oh joy!) for the last 10 days, only about 10-20% of cars were driving with their lights on.
  • Drink Driving (South Africa) Again! 12 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Aaah, the long arm of the law has indeed stretched itself, and have come up with a new way of deterring local drink drivers... they take your car! Criminals...
  • Jazz/Fit 1.5 Vtech 16 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I drive circa 30k a year private miles and have run a Honda Jazz for the last 2 years which I now feel I have wrung the most out of and I'm due a change. (Laugh if you liek but it's a brilliant bit of kit with more interior space than the A4 my wife drives and has averaged over 50 mpg in 60K miles!)
  • Astra gear selection 18 Sep 2004 (Forum)
A friend of mine has an X reg Astra estate that is exibiting a problem when trying to change gear. After a few miles of driving the gears become increasingly difficult to engage, with the gearlever not wanting to move easily into any gear. After another few miles the problem goes away again. It also seems fine on long journeys,it is most noticeable when driving round town.

Just wondering anyone elses opinion on what they have seen? Will they still be screwed together in five years time? What are they like to drive? cheers.
  • What is it with the A1(M)? 11 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Firstly, there are a huge number of concrete bases (for those big cantilevered matrix signs) being built. Now I drive it to and from work every day, since I moved up north, and never have I thought "Blimey, the problem with this road is the huge lack of information being constantly relayed to me". All the matrix signs I've ever seen just say "Don't Drive Tired" Also the police are really hot on that road.
  • Goodyear NCT5s 12 May 2004 (Forum)
I found them fine as as most of our motoring is in London, with the occassional long run I thought the milage OK. Is this the experience of other rear wheel drive users? Over the years I have had all the top brands and I can't honestly tell much of a difference. If you drive 'normally' and never screech off or scream around bends modern tyres seem very similar and more than adequate, although these new ones seem a bit quieter.
