  • Ford Fiesta - Lack of power on cold start, low revs & stalling 31 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Also, the average MPG has had a notable drop from 33 to 22 so fuel economy is very poor. Already tried replacing the battery, no warning lights are shown on the dashboard. Could it be a blown head gasket? I’m led to think because of the popping noises and lack of power. Thank you in advance

  • Nissan Terrano II (1993 - 2005) - 1993 2.7 turb No power to glow plugs 3 Apr 2017 (Forum)
The glow plug relays look fine with no corrosion at terminals and sound as if they are clicking on and off ok, the glow plug light on the dash comes on as normal aswell. The starter motor and battery are both recent so i dont think its them. I have been told to check the earth from the wiring loom but dont know where to find it. The car was in the garage for two weeks having other work done but for the whole two weeks started fine so they couldnt investigate the problem.
  • Peugeot 308 - Tensioner/Alternator belt 4 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I immediately took it back to the Franchised garage I had just bought it from and who had fully serviced it prior to sale and their diagnostics revealed "P058D00 Battery voltage value invalid". From this information and running further tests the garage subsequently advised me : "Found movement in top tensioner - found very noisy; renewed alternator belt and tensioner as per TSB".

  • Efficient choice? 8 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I've got about 15K to spend but I'm happy to borrow some cash if it makes sense to get something more efficient. I've considered various hybrids but most seem to only do around 30 miles on the batteries and are then not particularly efficient. a BMW i3 (range extended) might work as the amount I think I'd save (compared to my recently departed 29mpg diesel) would cover the amount I'd have to borrow.
  • Vauxhall Corsa D 56 Plate - ECU Problems 22 Jun 2015 (Forum)
In the 2 years I've had it, it has started and run every time without failure a few times the battery has gone flat, but always started with jump leads.
  • Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec 2005 Mk2 - Speedo reading zero now no electrics 7 Jun 2015 (Forum)
No electrics at all, hazards, lights etc. The mileometer faded in and out a few times then went completely. I'm sure the battery is OK, not had any problems with it but I'll try charging it anyway (It would have to be completely flat). Looks like I will have to call a mobile electrician. Could the speedo sensor be responsible for this loss of power or do I have two issues?

  • Honda accord Tourer - Used Honda Accord sport 2.2 cdti tourer 2006 24 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Drives well, clutch fine, but needed a slight dip of the accelerator to start it, tho it could just need new battery. Checked for the common problems on the model like the exhaust manifold was ok, but not been replaced either. Timing chain sounded ok - maybe slight rattle when first started. VCA light came on and off and the button operated it ok.
  • BMW 3 Series Compact E46 - Old Car Electrics 7 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Surprisingly the car started and ran OK with all the lights out but removing the key left all the lights etc still on. Disconnecting the battery turned everything off but reconnecting lit it all up again! I get a feeling that HJ is right about old electrics but this seems a case of pay up as it is quite a decent car, nowhere near scrap.
  • S40 2.0D - When to Scrap a car 24 May 2013 (Forum)
We buy any cars reckoned £1250 which they will probably barter down to somewhere around £1000 AA tred to fix it withou success (in limp mode) so took in it to main dealer in Guildford. They wanted £180 just for diagnostic £140 to fit new battery. I have error code reader which gave ECM1203  ESM1202 and ECM1213 which are injector errors. I could find too much about them on net. Dealer reckoned once £180 diagnostic it would need 1 or 2 injectors at £400 a pop.
  • Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 02 1.2 intermittent starting problem 19 Dec 2012 (Forum)
This seems quite at random, the engine spins over perfectly on the starter, but does not fire. First I fitted a new battery - although old one seemed OK - Next fitted new plugs (Despite huge tool kit, had to buy special spanner -Those Frenchies!) Next stop was new coil/leads from Renault dealer. All has made no difference.
  • Peugeot 206 Y Reg 123K - Lazy Starter Motor? 4 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Hi there The last couple of winters on cold mornings, my car struggles to turn over and in a couple of cases hasn't started. I had a new battery fitted last year and the problem still occurs this year. One mechanic who lives in my street heard my car turning over and suggested that I have a lazy starter motor, which would make sense as I once my car starts running, I could go up the road to get some petrol, then my car will turn over without any problems and it never impacts on my 15 mile journey into work.
  • Ford Focus Estate - speedo stops with performance lag 4 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Sometimes I also notice the headlights seem to have dimmed a little because when I accelerate I see the light becomes brighter. This may be coincidental. I should add, the battery is only about a year old. So, what could the problem be? Might it be an easy fix or is it likely to be expensive? And yes, we do know a non-functional speedo is an MOT fail!
  • Toyota Lucida Estima 2.2 TD 1995 - Starting Problem 2 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Other forums I have been on point me towards the Stop Solenoid, but they refer to non starting vehicles and not a sporadic starting problem like mine. I have checked all the usall culprits like Battery, changing the Fuel and air filters etc. It has been suggested it could be an injector fault, but the car runs fine with no eratic idle problems once running. Has anybody come across this problem with their Toyota Lucida, and point me in the right direction?

  • Peugeot 406 - Headlight allways on 17 Jul 2012 (Forum)
But lately another quite annoying problem appeared. Sometimes i cant turn off the light unless i disconnect the battery! Ususally they go off after few secs. Last night i switched off the car and waited an hour for the lights to go off, and they didnt, so i unplugged the battey. Now i dont ask some1 to be familiar with  the problem cause i didnt manage to google it, but i would appreciate if some1 could direct me to auto light wiring cause there aint no any in Haynes manual.
