Changing glowplugs Renault Scenic DTi 21 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Tried to fit a new set of glowplugs on my dads 1998 Scenic 1.9 DTi today. 3 Of them went in fine but the one behind the fuel pump of the cambelt end is proving to be a bit of a pig to get at. Is there a special tool available anywhere or should I have to take any other parts off to get better access to it? -
Nissan Pathfinder and biofuel 21 Oct 2006 (Forum)
The handbook says not to do it but I have just read that a company in Oxford is converting Nissan Navara's (which have the same engine as the Pathfinder) to run on neat bio-fuel - a mixture of rape and soya oil. Is there a good reason why you shouldn't use biofuel or are Nissan just being luddite's? -

Common Rail Diesels 8 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I always thought that diesels not having ignition systems were simpler than petrol engines, but it now seems the reverse is true. Also fuel consumption figures don't appear much different from my 1998 1.4 Civic which rarely goes below 45mpg between fill-ups. -

Needless Queing In Filling Stations 27 Jan 2006 (Forum)
In a recent Honest John column, someone complained that they often had to queue in filling stations because they did not have a central fuel filler cap. For their information, pump hoses are long enough to reach either side of a car with careful parking - some of them even unreel from the console. -- I wasna fu but just had plenty. -
Total Excellium 29 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My local four branded garages all sell Total. Just launched this allegedly improved fuel. I can not say I notice any difference in the performance of diesel VW so far. Not even the claimed anti foam properties on refuelling. Anyone have anything good to say about Total? -- I wasna fu but just had plenty. -
Hesitant S60 15 Aug 2005 (Forum)
After a few minutes it improves and finally all is well again, until the next 'cold' start. It's not like the engine is missing, it's almost as if not enough fuel or air is getting through. Any ideas? PP -

309 vs Astra vs ZX 10 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Shortlist - 309/205 (very impressed on test drive) - Astra (ditto but reliability...?) - ZX (again I like it but reliability and poor fuel economy?) At the moment I am keen to find a 1.4/1.6 309 but where the hell can I find one? Also are there any real issues to consider with the above, esp. the 309? Thanks -
salvage squad tonight - Mon 25/2 27 Feb 2002 (Forum)
That engine had not been started for 20 years, clean the fuel filter and away it went. reminded me of a Woody Allen film, where, in the 23rd century he finds an old VW beetle that has been stood for 300 years and it to starts first time - not even a flat battery. -
beware of gordan 1 Dec 2001 (Forum)
The golden goose of motoring will no doubt be in line for plucking. What new methods will he use. Doubt he can go for fuel again as the truckers will react. The environment is always a favourite so which part of it will his spin doctors be looking at to make us think he is doing us all a favour. Alvin -

Low Sulphur Petrol 12 Jul 2001 (Forum)
A letter in the latest CSMA Magazine Motoring & Leisure) comes from a man who claims that with careful checks of his fuel consumption he found himself spending £20 on unleaded to go one way on a journey and £27 on low sulphur to come back. Another claims a 20% increase in consumption on a 1.6 Daewoo. Anybody else experiencing similar consumption increases out there? -

Jaguar XF 2.2D - Is it safe?? 12 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Rang Jaguar breakdown again and the sent a technician out, not AA. He hooked it up to his computer and told me the fuel filter was blocked and that it was a common fault in my area and blamed the fuel in the North East ??. I took it in this morning to my local Jaguar dealership (Stratstone). I had a chat with the service manager.
