    Three Gordon Bennett Napiers will be lining up to undertake the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run on Sunday, 3 November. It is thought that this is the first occasion all three have taken part at the same time. The three racing Napiers on the 2013 Veteran Car Run are the 1904 car that crashed in the Cup qualification race and so failed to make the cut.

As well as club gatherings, it was also the destination for runs by Hagerty Insurance, which attracted 100 cars, which drove in from Silverstone via Bicester Heritage, and the Veteran Sports Car Club. We joined the Hagerty Run from Silverstone, which attracted a massive entry of diverse cars.

    British Car Actions and Car Dealer Magazine are combining to offer a special entry of 31 cars that recently competed in the annual Bangers4BEN fundraising event. The challenge was to complete a sponsored run to the FIAT factory in Turin and back in a car costing no more than £750, with all proceeds going to BEN – the Motor Industry’s Benevolent Fund. After four days pounding the roads to Italy and back, the cars were all donated by the various teams that ran them.

    The Brighton Speed Trials have been saved following a major campaign by event organisers. After the council initially declined an application to run the event in 2014, its Economic Development and Culture Committee voted unanimously last night to allow the event to continue on 6 September. The Speed Trials has been running in Brighton since 1905 and the initial council refusal caused outcry among Brighton residents, the motorsport industry and the many fans of the event around the UK and abroad.

    Suzuki is offering buyers of the S-Cross £500 towards fuel costs in the form of a prepaid card. The offer runs until the end of March 2016 and is open to private buyers only. The offer can be used with all other S-Cross offers and there is no cash alternative. The S-Cross currently costs from £13,999 and is available 1.6-litre petrol or diesel engines, in both front- and all-wheel drive, with the option of manual or automatic transmissions.

    .  The 1945 Spitfire has the Range Rover beat on raw power – its V12 Merlin engine produces 1750bhp, against the 510PS Supercharged V8 version of the latest Range Rover Sport – but the race involved a run up the runway and back down, so the Range Rover, with its tighter turning circle and all-wheel grip has an advantage.   • Fuel cost savings wiped out 19 Apr 2001 (News)
    Higher insurance costs, and resale values undermined by a depressed used-car market, have wiped out running cost savings from a five-pence-a-litre drop in fuel prices over the past year. AA Motoring Costs 2001, available free of charge on the AA's website www.theaa.com at the end of April, shows that, for the first time in at least five years, motorists doing around 5000 miles a year will see their motoring costs dip while higher mileage drivers are worse off.
  • A Grand Monday: Austin Montego 1.6 LPG 19 Jan 2015 (News)
    Under the bonnet, the carb-fed 1.6-litre is reportedly doing well. According to the seller, ‘It can be run all the time on LPG, without the need to run it on petrol at all. The only time you need to run it on petrol is when it’s below five degrees – and even then only until it has got up to temperature.’ That makes this a pretty cheap car to run - even with falling petrol prices.

  • HALF OF 4x4 DRIVERS DO GET THEIR WHEELS DIRTY 1 Feb 2008 (News)
    Contrary to the popular stereotype of family 4x4s clogging up roads on the school run, just 18% of owners said they use their car to take the kids to school. Mark Huggins, Head of AA Personal Loans says: "Conventional wisdom suggests that 4x4 owners never take their cars off-road so these findings were surprising.
