Seat model sets new green record 7 May 2009 (News)
The person behind the wheel during the motoring challenge was Austrian economy-driving ace Gerhard Plattner. He revealed that during his trip through Spain he reached speeds approaching 70 mph. Mr Plattner described the experience as "incredible" and praised the vehicle he had driven, which boasts CO2 emissions of 98 g/km. "The pouring rain practically all through the night made driving difficult, but the Ibiza Ecomotive performed to perfection," he stated. -
Mazda 2 Details Announced 29 Aug 2002 (News)
Mazda has announced details of its new Fiesta based Mazda 2 model to be launched at the Paris Motor Show on 26th September and to be built at Ford’s plant south of Valencia in Spain. The new car is a compact hatchback/estate, like the Honda Jazz and the Ford Fiesta Fusion, with the benefit of a particularly low rear load sill. It replaces Mazda’s previous Demio and will itself be called the Demio in Japan. -

Top Car of the day was the left-hand-drive Ferrari F360 Modena F1 Spider in the photo, imported from Spain and with only 7,000 kilometres under its wheels. It sold for a very reasonable £83,000, which has to leave plenty of profit for someone re-exporting to a LHD country and begs the question why it ever left Spain in the first place, where tax-paid Ferraris are a lot more money than they are here. -

European car production lowest since 1996 11 Mar 2010 (News)
The figures for car production were not as bad as for commercial and truck sales, which increased the drop in overall vehicle production in the EU to 17% in 2009 compared to 2008. Germany is the largest vehicle producer in Europe, making 5.2 million in 2009, while Spain is the second largest (2.2 million) to beat France into third spot. The UK remains in fourth place in the production figures league, producing more than 1 million vehicles during 2009. The ACEA's Economic Report forecasts that passenger car production will drop again in 2010 due to weaker demand and commercial vehicle production will remain at 2009 levels. -
Indiana Jones Renault Type NN Tourer up for auction 28 May 2014 (News)
The right-hand drive, four-door Tourer was bought by Steven Spielberg’s film company in 1988, shortly before filming started in Almeria, Spain. The car was then re-sprayed black for its famous chase with a 1917 army tank, which saw Indy battle it out with his enemies in search of the Holy Grail. The ten minute scene would go on to became one of the highlights of the film, with superb performances from Harrison Ford and Sean Connery. -

The main export markets in 2011 were as follows: 23 per cent of total production output was delivered to Russia, 10 per cent to Great Britain, 9 per cent to Germany, 8 per cent to Spain and 5 per cent to France. Ford axes UK vehicle production 25 Oct 2012 (News)
Ford is also closing its factory in Genk, Belgium, which builds the Mondeo, Galaxy and S-MAX. Production is expected to move to Valencia, Spain during 2014. The news comes just weeks after Ford announced a huge product offensive in Europe with 15 new models - including the new Transit - due to be introduced in the next five years. -
