  • Taking car to be scrapped, mechanics insurance? 15 Feb 2022 (Forum)
Hello all, Hoping for some advice on my dilemma. My old car is in my mechanics garage but he's not back in work for 7 days due to getting hospital treatment. My insurer for this car has it's next months payment due in 3 days and I want to cancel the insurance before I am next charged for the next month in 3 days.
  • Mondeo PowerShift - Higher Mileage Car 27 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I'm looking for some advise please about a car I'm considering... A relative is considering selling his Mondeo TDCI (2017) as he needs something greener for his mainly motorway commute to London. The car is an AWD Vignale edition and as far as I know has been maintained to schedule, however despite it's age it has covered 80,000 miles and has a PowerShift auto box.
  • New car. Help me decide 26 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Hi all, So I’m looking for something new and seem to have narrowed it down and wondered if someone could help me decide. MPG is a massive thing for me with the distances I cover so checking this website and personal preference these are the cars I have in mind. Thinking around the £10k mark. A class, was thinking the 1.8 auto Seat Leon 2.0 FR manual Golf GTD I really like the golf if I’m honest.
  • any - V5 missing 16 Jun 2020 (Forum)
I asked about the V5 and was told they don't have it, though they are the legal owners of the car. They said they can give me a V62 document instead, and they will cover the £25 DVLA admin fee for a new V5.  However, does this mean that I, as the new owner, will be unable to pay for road tax on the car until my proper V5 arrives ?
  • Audi A6 2008 - Garage repairs 6 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Good afternoon I'm after some advise on garage repairs, my car wouldn't start November 16, took it to Vw/ Audi specialist, he advised car had dpf filter blocked up also rocker cover needed to be removed and cleaned due to running car on incorrect oil,  I had a bill for replacement dpf from motor factors and fitting for £1045, car has been back in garage since end of January 17 due to breakdown, garage said oil filter was clogged solid and caused the engine to blow,  I'm not a mechanic, but Surley this should have been replaced when the original repair was done?
  • Lexus RX400h - Any good car auction buyer that can be recommended 3 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Hi All, I am looking of sourcing a car from either BCA or Manhiem. I used to use Joe Dowd ages ago, but since he's retired, haven't managed to get someone decent - (i.e. who doesn’t try to rip me off or charge me a fortune). Does anyone know of a decent buyer especially someone who can cover the Midlands and the North West and Yorkshire areas?
  • Car advertised with 12 months MOT - only six weeks 3 May 2014 (Forum)
I have a copy of the advert where the 12 months MOT is mentioned. I would not have bought car if I had known MOT was so short. Is this false advertising? What are my options? Should dealer MOT and cover cost of any work needed? Thanks
  • Kia Ceed Sportswagon - After sales problem 8 Mar 2014 (Forum)
On a test drive, I was told by the salesman, that the parking sensors did not work beacause the trade plates covered them. When  I was using the car,  I noticed that the parking sensors were only working intermitently. I took the car back and was told that the system was not factory fitted and so nothing could be done about this.
  • Ford Fiesta - 60 plate Fiesta - warranty problem 30 Jan 2013 (Forum)
As such they are refusing my claim on the warranty. I know hardly anything about cars and have not got a clue what to do next. Surely a car that is only 18 months old should be covered by the warranty on this?
  • Insurance - So can I drive another car? 9 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Have to admit that I am one of those that has been under the impression that I can  legally drive another car without being named on the policy as long as the car is insured and I have the insured owners permission, although (and this is just a vague belief) the cover is reduced - road traffic act or something.

  • Reg no. on ins cert? 20 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Re ANPR and insurance certs I used to arrange a fleet policy for about 35 company cars of the 'perks' variety i.e. very rarely used for business and the insurers, a Lloyds syndicate, would issue one cert per car without any reg no. but stating words to the effect that it covered any car owned by the company and anybody driving with the company's permission subject age limits etc.
  • This must be a scam, but how? 29 Mar 2006 (Forum)

  • deep swirls in paintwork 11 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I have noticed that the paintwork seems to have a number of very deep looking swirl marks in it when the sun falls in cerain directions. I did not notice these when I bought/picked up the car as it was a bit overcast. The marks look like somebody has either polished it bady or washed the car with something abrasive. It was bought from a local vauxhall dealer and is covered by the Network Q warranty.
  • insurance on other cars 17 Aug 2004 (Forum)
i will be borrowing a friends old volvo estate to move furniture, while im not to concerned with the cost of replacing his car if an accident occurs (its worth tops £400) I dont want to run the risk of having no insurance. also - if i was to own his volvo (a real future possibility) - would i still be able to use my main cars insurance policy to cover use of the volvo?
  • Volvo XC70 - Am I mad? 11 May 2025 (Forum)
So, don’t ask me why, but I’ve always fancied having an XC70. Almost bought a nearly new one back in 2009, but didn’t. I’d be keeping my main car, as I cover a lot of miles annually, but I am tempted to spend up to £5k and buy an XC70. It would be D5, automatic. High mileage doesn’t worry me as I took my last car to over 220,000 miles.
  • VAG - Two years of goodwill from VAG-Whatever next? 9 Jun 2017 (Forum)
It looks as if VAG are now offering a warranty on cars affected by the NOx emissions scandal. They call it “goodwill” rather than warranty, it lasts for 24 months from the date the fix was applied and covers fuel injectors and high pressure pump, EGR valve and all exhaust after treatment hardware.
  • Neighboors using my driveway 18 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I don't know if there is a law regarding driveway.I bought a house which got driveway on it,now my new neighboors live beside me don't have a driveway and have a big bush covering their front house .If I go out using my car,,he uses our driveway to get into their front to park his car.The annoying thing is when I got back and park my car infront of our house or our driveway.
  • vw jetta - fitted car seats 9 Jun 2013 (Forum)
It seems like really thin cotton and looks like it will wear through within time. I've seen some leather fitted car seats on roofbox.co.uk specifically for Jettas and wanted to know if any of you have had experience replacing seat covers before and could offer any advice recommendations .
  • 97 Fiesta 1.8D - Buying 13 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Hi guys new on here, im currently looking at buying a 97 Ford Fiesta 1.8 bog standard diesel. I want a cheap no nonsense car with not much (hopefully) to go wrong! The car will have a new years MOT, service history from a ford dealer and 4 new tyres. The car has only covered 47000, and apparently was owned in the last few years by an old guy who has to give up driving, so he never done many miles in it, the thing is, is this something to worry about??
