  • Ford Focus Mk 2 Petrol - Could this be an electrical problem? 18 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Hi On Wednesday I began to experience the following problems: - engine warning light on - external temperature guage not working (just showing as -- -- ) - cold weather warning light on (red) - rear windscreen wiper not working - front windscreen washers not working Yesterday I noticed a front bulb is also out.. unsure if it has been out since Wednesday. Fuel consumption seemed fine until a friend asked about it... now think it is going down quicker but maybe just mind playing tricks. Did a short 4.6 mile run across town with a short stretch uphill to 60mph and the fuel reader dropped by seven miles so not bad I think...?
  • 2003 Renault Laguna 1.9dci - Starting problem 4 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Yesterday I sprayed some easy start into the intake and it fired up straight away but died as soon as I stopped spraying which to me suggests it isn't getting fuel. I took off the return pipe from the injectors one by one and there is a fair amount of fuel pumping out when engine is cranked. I presume this is a fault in the injectors somewhere but is there any way of finding out which injector/s is faulty?
  • Peugeot 306 - Peugeot 306 - No Spark 4 Sep 2012 (Forum)
The old ECU has been put back on the car.   It turns over, I believe it to be getting fuel, but it doesn't smell flooded, you can hear the fuel pump when the ignition is switched on.  I decided to check the coil pack, and didn't find a spark, so I bought another, still no spark.  The crank sensor has been replaced so I'm assuming that it's fine.

need advice on my A6 2.4 auto 1997 . about 2 months ago it had to taken to a audi dealer as it would not start after left unused for 2 weeks.not battery problem.the dealer said there was fuel flooding and changed all sparks and add fuel treatment. start ok since but had trouble with the engine juddering at idle espescially when climate control on and using the brakes. brought it back to dealer and they changed a faulty spark lead. some improvment but still not completely gone. third time they diagnosed a faulty valve timer and changed it at total of £370!!!
  • 2007 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2. - Misleading petrol gauge. 4 Mar 2012 (Forum)
My car is supposed to have a fuel tank capacity of 45 litres.  The gauge shows" full"," half full", "quarter full"  and the red section.  I believe the gauge is calibrated incorrectly because it always takes quite a lot less to brim the tank than the gauge would suggest.
  • Ford Focus - 52 Ford Focus Tdci intermittent starting 25 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I feared this was the dreaded DMF however the starter motor thankfully fixed this. Also I've noticed when I switch the ignition off the fuel gauge rests ar halfway regardless of how much fuel is in there instead of returning to the stop. Could the battery now be a little suspect? Anyone else experienced anything similar? I thank you in advance for your help and advice.
  • BMW 118d vs 120d - Which one to go for? 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
How do they compare with respect to Insurance Group,  Road Tax for private user? Real world fuel economy register shows very little difference between them. Other issue is the sports suspension versus the standard suspension,  but only I can answer that one myself based upon personal preference.
  • Astra G 1.6 8v estate - The cost of motoring 12 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Cost of depreciation of the 1st was 11p/mile, the 2nd was 12.57p/mile. The first averaged 40.1mpg and cost 9p/mile for fuel, the second did 38.6mpg and cost 12p/mile. The first cost 8p/mile for everything else, the 2nd cost 12p/mile. Total cost of the 1st was 27.5p/mile, the 2nd was 36.5p/mile. One of the surprises for me was to realise how little the fuel cost, compared to everything else.
  • Mazda Xedos 6 (1992 - 1998) - 92 2.0 Kangaroo petrol 18 Jan 2011 (Forum)
It could almost be an ignition problem (HJ mentions this in the car-by-car) but there are plenty of sparks at idle, despite the lumpiness, so I suspect fuel, although at high speed there is no problem. I'm hoping these are symptoms of something obvious that I'm just unfamiliar with. Since we've had Mazdas, I've got very rusty on fault diagnosis... TIA JBJ

  • BMW 5-Series E60 - Diesel Dilemma 29 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Almost immediately the car is running smoother, not quite as well as 3 months ago, but is this because I still had 1/3 of a tank of previous fuel. Will continue to run out the old fuel and top up with the BP and see what transpires. My engine is the 525d, 19inch alloys, low profile not runflats, I have a skinny spare. Anyone else had similar?

  • Audi A3 + S3 (2003 - 2008) - A3, A4 or Honda Civic 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Other possible options I'll look at this week are the Mazda M3 and Golf diesels but am happy to shop around though I need something by Jan 4! As someone who knows very little about cars, I want something fuel efficient and reliable most importantly, but obviously something I enjoy driving too. I'd welcome any advice. Cheers, Paul
  • Renault - Master - 96 2.5 too much oil- no engine start 23 Sep 2009 (Forum)
When started, it is fine throughout the day. Just a little more sound than normal (slight knocking). Halfords auto shop told me to drain the fuel, change the diesel filter and flush the system (not sure how). This morning, I cannot start the engine and the battery is slowly dying. Have I totalled the engine? What is my best move now? Thanks for any advice, Matt
  • Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 99 2.0 HDi Auto Diagnosis Light 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I don't know if its a co-incidence but I had filled up at a supermarket about 20 mins before the AD light came on. I have read that supermarket fuels are not as good - is this true or fuel snobbery? I am not that bothered about the car being in limp mode but am towing a caravan in about 8 weeks and wouldn't mind having the power there for that.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 03 2.0HDi Car not starting 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)
When repeated later, same again, but higher revs before shut down (2 secs) Diagnostics indicated a fuel regulator problem and the high pressure fuel pump was changed (Siemens version, no pump in the tank). The contacts for the regulator on the old pump were blackened, which suggested the solenoid had overheated.
  • Nissan Sunny (1991 - 1995) - 1994 1.4 passed mot then conks out! 28 Mar 2009 (Forum)
While returning from mot station with friends Nissan Sunny (which it passed) the car started stuttering as tho running out of petrol. I had some fuel in the boot and topped it up......after a lot of cursing and cranking the engine eventually fired and drove home without further trouble. The following day the car refused to start.....cranked over no problem but would not fire.
  • Renault Laguna II (2001 - 2007) - 03 1.9dci Engine "stop" light and other problems. 15 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Please help, i bought a 03 reg 1.9dci laguna a few weeks ago and started experiancing problems i was driving down the motorway when the engine stop light and the engine management light came on. i pulled over an it would not start again so i got recovered... a mechanic mate of mine looked at it and now its seems to be a ecu or injector fault as its losing the coding..is this a regular problem or can anyone shed any light.. hes fitted a fuel filter and got the diesel to maintain pressure but apparently the injectors are working intermitently thus allowing NOT enough fuel through hes also eplaced a turbo solenoid and cleaned the egr valve and throttle body... short of taking it to a main deal who will probably charge a fortune im and hes at a loss he did say i needed to obtain the code for the key. how do i get this what do i ask for and roughly how much is it?
  • Citroen ZX (1992 - 1998) - 1994 1.9 Diesel losing power 2 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I am a disabled person with a Citroen ZX diesel when I was coming home from a long trip the other day my car started losing power on the motorway. LIke spluttering. The fuel tank was at 3/4 full and no other apparent problems. A friend of mine suggested that I should get the Fuel filter and the Cam belt changed so I went ahead with his advise but after spending £160 on it the problem is still there infact it seems to be worse.
