Help needed buying a car on a budget 7 May 2013 (Forum)
Hello, I need help buying a car on the modest budget of £2000. Having wasted hours and hours of my life last year, stranded in laybys with my renault grand scenic and thousands of pounds on keeping it going i am desperate to buy a decent car this time. So my priorities are that it be reliable and economical. I do a fair amount of driving on open road and in town, probably around 30miles a day, as well as occasional long distance trips. 7 seats was great (the only good thing about the grand scenic) but i can live without it as i dont think its acheivable in my budget. -
Dacia Logan MCV - Dacia Logan MCV - £6995? / Budget Brands 6 Mar 2013 (Forum)
http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/motorshows/geneva-motor-show-2013/geneva-motor-show-2013-dacia-logan-mcv-britians-most-affordable-estate/ Apparently Renault are dropping rumours it will start from £6995. Stunning value if true. I am dissapointed I have ordered a Duster, woud have prefered the Logan estate! Rumours abound WV are in mid development of their budget brand, Fiat have a team started on developing their budget brand, Nissan are re-considering Datsun and great wall and Geely are slowing down their plans for UK expansion to re-consider their stratergy. -

Passion from a Citroen C5 9 Jan 2012 (Forum)
So, we're talking about the likes of Fiat, Vauxhall, Ford, VW/Skoda/SEAT, Peugeot/Citroen and Renault, rather than Audi, Alfa, Jag etc. I own a Ford Focus, which is apparently one of the best cars to drive in its class. The problem is, I just don't see it. I've had Peugeots and Vauxhalls and Fiats in the past, and never really saw anything remarkable in them either. -
Cheap, smallish, reliable car recommendations 26 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hello, We're downsizing from a Mondeo estate and Renault Grand Scenic to two new cars, one will probably be a Galaxy (we need a 7/8 seater) and the other is going to be a smaller car. Our fuel bill between us is around £500-£600 a month as we do over 15k each so we are hoping to make some cost savings by having a economical car to replace the Scenic as that only returns ~35MPG. -
Diesel Family car - cheap tax 19 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hi there, can anyone help please? I currently own a 2004 Renault Scenic 1.6 (petrol) which drinks far too much petrol and costs £215 to tax annually - I think this is far too much (not to mention that it has been nothing but costly trouble). I have a friend who owns a 2003 Citroen Xsara Picasso diesel and pays £120 annual tax. -
Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - 04 1.5 Timing Chain defect 15 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Hi All, My Nissan Almera stalled when I was overtaking on a busy dual carriageway and it nearly killed me. After some googling I found out that Nissan Almera has a RENAULT timing chain which stretches after so many miles and causes the engine to stall and not restart. Nissan issued a recall but no for all Almeras, mine wasn't included. I took my car to Nissan garage yesterday and they confirmed it's the timing chain and fixing it would cost £900-£1000. -

New/Nearly New 7 Seaters - 16-22k 30 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Its for work purposes too so reliability and new or nearly new are pretty high on the wish list however mileage wise, its probably less than 12k/year. Which leaves one of the French contingent - Citreon, Renault and Peugeot or a Zafira. I've noted some negative comments on the Zafira however reviews all come out pretty positive and I like being able to fold seat 7 down flat. I have concerns on the Citreon/Peugeot etc reliability but again these actually dont look as bad as first impressions. -
Ford Fiesta - Wheel bearings wear and tear??? 11 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I have booked it into ford to be checked but i am concerned cos they are saying that if the wheel bearings aren't faulty and it's just wear and tear i have to pay. The car is 2.5 yrs old (diesel) and has done 49,000 miles I had a renault before that never needed wheel beraings done and that was 8 yrs old and had done 100,000 miles. Is it normal to have to replace them so soon? Seems strange to me and i don't want to have to pay for something like that every 2 yrs as it seems v experience. -
Machine parts as ornaments 1 Feb 2010 (Forum)
They too are quite heavy although they are made os some sort of cast light alloy. All this is blown off the stand by a bar I know in Paris where the coffee tables are old Renault F1 V10s with a sheet of thick glass balanced on them. Chapeau! -
Small cars not fit for purpose 1 May 2008 (Forum)
http://www.thatcham.org/ncwr/ "The only two City cars to achieve an ?ACCEPTABLE? rating were the Renault Twingo and the Smart Fortwo. The majority of the other nine City cars were rated as ?MARGINAL?, with the current Ford Ka and Fiat Panda rated as ?POOR?. Even the recently released Fiat 500 ? new for 2008 ? -
buying a used car 22 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have up to £3000 to spend and don't know whether to go for a petrol or diesel car, I do about 18000 miles a year and need decent enough room for one car seat and a buggy. I have thought about a 2002 Renault Clio/ Ford Fiesta/Peugeot 106/Peugeot 206, I would like a smaller car that is cheap to tax( £35 for 12 mths if possible) and run. Could anybody tell me about common faults of the above cars or which of the above cars they would reccommend and roughly the mpg for that car I have read the 106 has a high 7 out of 9 death rate in accidents? -
Megane Clutch 3 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I've got a 55 plate Megane (pre-facelift) with a 2.0 VVT petrol engine. Had it about a week and the clutch is very heavy IMO. The Renault dealer we bought it from had a mechanic check it out and says there is no problem, and my own personal experiments from hopping into several other new and nearly new Meganes show that the 2.0 petrols tend to be a mixed bag, some light, some heavy. -
Reliable cars? Seems not 5 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Business he says is booming and the unreliablity of modern cars has allowed him to extend his business and semi retire at the same time. Interestingly he tells me that the two garages that he gets most business from locally sell Renault and wait for it ....BMW. Toyotas not what they were and Nissans no better. Honda still pretty good and Mazda consistent. Merecedes he tells me isn't bad at all but A class is not up to scratch. I asked what he was now driving - an Audi S3 that has been excellent. -

exhaust gas recirculation problems 24 May 2006 (Forum)
Further to my postings of 5th and 18th of May, mentioning problems with Renault diesel engines, it seems that in Honest Johns car-by-car breakdown, under Espace 2002+,they are known to have E.G.R. problems, but this has never been mentioned on any service. But I know from experience how dangerous this can be. -
Kangoo diesel starting 30 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I hope someone might be able to help with a starting problem on my 1999 T 1.9 Renault Kangoo Diesel. Most mornings, it totally refuses to start. Having loosened an injector pipe, on cranking, it is clearly not injecting, which makes me suspect it is the stop solenoid. Sometimes either with a jump start or a fiddle round with the wiring it will start. -
Have they facelifted the Laguna? 25 Jun 2005 (Forum)
It was in silver, and the bloke was an oldish gent wearing a suit - didn't strike me as the type to do his car up. Despite not being a Renault fan, I like the Laguna. This new one makes me like it even more. Oh - and on the subject of new cars, I saw the new Focus saloon on the road before. I was overtaking so got a good look at the side and front before letting it pass.
