  • VW Golf Mk3 Smoking Engine 31 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Hi ,my 1995 VW Golf Driver 1.8 is smoking from its engine after driving it for half an hour or so. I have taken it to a VW garage ,and they couldnt find anything wrong with it ,but after driving it away,it did it again. The smoke is grey/white,and seems to be coming right from the engine itself.
  • 1998 Megane - No Heating 3 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I don't seem to have any warm air coming in through to the cabin of my 1998 1.4e Renault Megane. A couple of days ago the air was a little warm if you let it come in on its own (i.e whilst driving without the blower on). Now there is no warm air at all and it's freezing cold at the moment. Can anyone suggest what it might be so I have an idea before taking it to a mechanic? Also after a long drive i have noticed a hissing from the colant bottle- the level is fine.

  • Learner Drivers 25 Jun 2004 (Forum)
First of all, I would just like to say that this is not a Learner Driver Bashing Thread! I was wondering if there is some sort of "standard" of driving that learners should reach before they are out on the road. In my day, we went to car parks and empty industrial estates until I had full control over clutch bite, changing gear etc. But nowadays I see Learners on the road that give the impression they are on their first driving lesson!
  • Astra speedo 18 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I explained that I was aware of him and the speed limit and even told him what side road he'd pulled out of. I offered to let him drive so his colleague could check the indicated speed. He was good enough to let me go without a ticking off which was appreciated but if you're driving an Astra take care!

  • Tell us something we don't know! 23 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Well Well Well It seems that the AA and the Police Force have told the country what most backroomers have known for a while. 500,000 drivers in the UK are driving vehicles that are not registered to them. 1,500,000 drivers are driving without insurance. Well, I'm just glad that legislation was passed to penalise the honest motorists should he or she forget to renew VED on time.
  • Transporting a frail OAP 30 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Hello BR, Happy Christmas everyone. Has anyone had experience of driving a pretty frail elderley relative a long way? We had a death in the family a few days ago and we now face the need to get my 97 year old grandmother from Middlesborough to Liverpool for the funeral.
  • TrafficCops Programme 13 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Apart from usual entertainment from low life wasting Police time, why did the officer feel he should also add to this poor use of resources & create a potentially dangerous situation? I'm referring to the stopping & interviewing of the driver & salesman on a test drive. Commonsense would have said, it was it a good idea to hi-light the foolish practice of driving with obscured vision. But on a busy road, plenty of heavy traffic passing, filming it too, all adding to the risk of an accident.I don't think so!!
  • Vauxhall Fault Codes 8 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Hi Guys I have a W reg (2000) Vauxhall Astra 1.7 DTi with the Isuzu 16v engine. My engine management light came on whilst driving home from work last night and was wondering if there was any DIY test to read the fault codes rather than being stung for a price of a diagnostic by the dealer. I am still driving it as I don't have a choice with no alternative transport until the weekend, but there is no apparent loss of power.
  • Drink and Driving - The Final Medical 28 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Hi, My dad got a caught last year, and is soon to be tested so that he can have his licence back. But no-one can tell him what the limits are for this...
  • Drink drive limits 26 Jul 2003 (Forum)

  • Wandering Golf steering 18 Jul 2003 (Forum)
The problem is that everytime I accelerate the car, (without moving the steering wheel) the car moves to the right (steering wheel even moves slightly, if holding it loosely). When I take my foot off the accelerator it drives straight again. This can be mostly felt during motorway driving. I have had the tracking adjusted (camber included), new tyres, and changed all the rubber bushes on the wishbones. I have also checked that the brake calipers are not gripping, and they\'re fine.
  • Squeal when braking? 4 Jul 2003 (Forum)
After driving around much of this afternoon wondering why so many cars around me were making funny noises, I finally realised it was mine. As far as I've sussed out, there is a squealing noise that only seems to happen when I'm driving slowly, downhill, and applying the brakes.
  • Turn left on red? 29 May 2003 (Forum)
Would it be worth trialling this system in the UK, or are our roads/junctions too narrow to allow a full implementation? The other aspect of US driving I found most noticeable was the relative lack of aggression! My first experience was driving from Dulles airport into Washington D.C. - at night, in pouring rain, windows steaming up, lost, in need of sleep, first time with LHD car - and even when crawling at times doing 40 on the beltway I didn't encounter any 'hostility' at all.........
  • Mondewoe noises 16 May 2003 (Forum)
Trouble is the noise is still there, the garage (Marsh Gargage in the Good Garages Guide) said that the bearing was on its way but was better than the other one. They now think that its possibly drive shaft related. Has anyone any experience of problems with the drive shafts on the V6 Mondewoe, such that it will make noises like a wheel bearing? The cars now done about 105,000 miles. Any info including likly costs etc will be greatfully recived.
  • Pug 306 - Knocking!!! 19 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Im just wondering if someone could give me a little help.... I have a 306 XN - \'94 M reg! When I drive over the slightest bump, there is a knocking sound which is driving me mad!!! I\'ve taken it to suspension & exhaust place, and they can\'t see any problems whatsoever. I really don\'t want to pay the dealership a few hundred quid just to investigate the problem.
  • Honda HR-V 4WD?? 19 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I'm fed up driving crap cars and have decided to spend up to £5000 on a reliable car. I live in a hilly area and a car with part time 4X4 would be great. A local dealer has a beautiful Dec 1999 Honda HR-V 1.6 4X4, nice colour, cd palyer, aircon etc.
  • Focus ignition warning light 13 Mar 2003 (Forum)
That doesn't appear to have cured the problem however - and the biggest problem is the worry it's causing my father as the handbook says to drive immediately to the nearest dealer, which he is inclined to do. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
