  • Please help me choose a car for a long commute 6 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I've gone round in circles for days trying to find something that ticks all the boxes but I'm not having much luck. My current car is a BMW 320D Coupe 2007. I use this car for a 120mile daily (32,000 per year) commute so it now has 107,000 miles on the clock. We have four seats and two children (one in a booster seat) which worked fine until my wife announced we have a new arrival due.
  • From Hell - Rental Car 27 Oct 2011 (Forum)
It may be a reasonable car once you get to know it, but it's completely useless as a rental buggy. Rant over Mr BMW, you won't be getting my custom again ...
  • New car for SWMBO. Any thoughts 21 Mar 2009 (Forum)
We had thought of: Hyundai Coupe: Plus points: looks/cost Negatives: cheapo interior Audi TT: Plus points it's an Audi TT Negatives: Space in the rear/have to buy an older one for the price/the thought of swmbo running about in a car with 180 or goodness help us 225 bhp scares me frankly..! BMW 3 series coupe....I honestly just don't get BMW's (apart for a perverse hankering after a 1999 or thereabouts 7 series!) they look nice in gold though! Mini: Plus points: the wife really likes them.
  • Help me choose-Large Diesel engine Q Barge! 16 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Audi A6 3 litre -230 Bhp , has a manual option ,perhaps handling may not be as class leading as the BMW , however as this has 4 wheel drive, this may not be as significant. Prefer a manual stick, although wouldn't mind an auto.. Merc E classes -not much info however are Mercs a bit too flash, too much attention provoking.
  • Car prices go up - Electronic go down. 15 Feb 2007 (Forum)
If the Upmarket segment of MB& BMW is attacked by Lexus, Infiniti............... will they compete as currently they sell on badge and lack the engineering quality of the Lexus Who will be the winners and big names - may be the future is Cheaper, smaller, simpler, easier to fix cars and not the all singing and dancing electronics in the current car choice.
  • How much is this car worth? 10 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I have been offered a 2000X BMW 530i Sport in Topaz Blue but am wondering how much I should pay for it, as an accurate valuation is a bit difficult! The car itself is a September 2000 facelift E39 530i Sport in Topaz Blue, and is completely standard including Alcantara/Cloth interior and a manual gearbox.
  • I've done it this time 25 Nov 2004 (Forum)
So, Honda goes, new Forester arrives and I will drive old Forester until I choose a leased car. Then I start nagging the Back Room about Saabs, BMW X3s, Volvos, and Audis. About to choose an amazing deal on BMW X3 when.............. Father: - I'm not sure I like new Forester Me: - Why? F: - The ride in the old one is better M: - So? F: - Tell you what, you take the new one and I'll keep the old one and when I go on a long trip and want heated leather seats and cruise control, I'll borrow it.

  • Exporting a car to New Zealand 7 Nov 2001 (Forum)
The New Zealand car market seems to be flooded with imported 2nd hand Japanese cars with dubious model names such as "Chaser", "Windom", "Regulus" and "Chariot" - (Do you know anyone that would buy a car called a "Chariot" ?! ). Anyway, I digress, the prestige (German) brands such as BMW, MB, Audi etc. seem to hold their value extremely well - i.e. A 96 BMW 528 with 70K (miles) will fetch around GBP 19K - where in the UK this car would probably only make around 11/10K and even less at auction.
  • All cars - Elderly Drivers 26 Feb 2025 (Forum)
The real problems are the drivers under 25 who drive as if all the demons of hell are chasing them, have little or no respect for other road users and mainly drive Audis or older BMWs. One only has to drive along any UK motorway to see those driving at far above the speed limit and very few if any are elderly. The older drivers may be a little slower but with town speed limits of 20mph they are the only ones who tend to obey.
  • What Else Can Match a C5? 25 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Sporty handling is of no interest as ive got a 140bhp bike to get my kicks. What i want most from a car is a compliant ride and big supportive seats. • any - Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) Engine reliability 13 Jul 2022 (Forum)
However given that a lot of manufacturers have now shifted to GDI technology for their petrol engines (BMW, VW Group, Ford, Mazda, Hyundai / Kia, etc.), what do backroomers think about this? Would you be comfortable buying a car with a GDI engine, or would you stay clear of them?
