  • E46 touring rear wash AND wiper 14 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I've checked fuses and contacts on rear lid, all ok. She's in for a service next week and I'd really like to get it fixed before having to pay bmw for the privelege. I've looked for relays but can't find them. Any help is very gratefully recieved. Mike.

What consumpton do you guys actually get? Also, is the 1.5 accpetable on the motorway? I am coming from a BMW 320d so I do expect a drop in performance. Many thanks.

Anyway, im bored of that now, so im looking for a new car. Somthing between 1500-2000 that is nice to drive. I was looking at an old bmw 3 series, 96ish. What would you guys reccomend?
  • Sourcing Bearings 31 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I would have imagined getting one would be fairly easy though. A thread over in technical matters got me thinking where one guy was quoted £122 for a BMW bearing. I suggested he went this route if he could. Am I right?
  • who makes the sat nav in peugeots? 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Whose CD ROM mapping can I update it with? What with all that stuff on ebay, which seems to be banging on about BMW units. What's a TCM? in sat nav speak How do I search this site for anything on 'sat nav'? Put these 2 terms into the search & nothing comes back? Thanks for looking at this & sorry if it's all been covered.
  • radio reception and 530d 13 Apr 2005 (Forum)
have any backroomers found the reception of their radios on their bMW 5 series a bit wanting, the reception is ok with the engine off,but once starting the engine,it goes crackly.this is especially true for MW stations. It gets worse on putting the rear demister on when even the local FM radio station gets affected.I am not sure if it has got to with the reception generally in the area as the reception on my audi 80 which is 12 yrs old in the same areas is good.any thoughts whether there is problem with the electrics/fuel management or just defective aerial/radio on my recently acquired 530d which is 2002/51 year model.
  • One-handed steering 4 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I was a trifle disconcerted to see that Jason Plato on Five's 'Fifth Gear' the other night was driving the BMW from Spain to Blighty with only one hand on the steering wheel. This may have been an easier way when talking to camera but I got the impression, from his general demeanour, that he might be a serial one-hander driver except, of course, when he is using his doubtless skills on the track.

  • Drove a 1 series Beemer today 22 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Just by chance I got to drive a 120d Sport today (apparently a day earlier than permitted by BMW). THey look much better in the flesh than on paper - still not a pretty car. I think it will be like the 5 series which does grow on you. However the 163 bhp TD even with only 35 miles on the clock is absolute stunner - it seems to pull in every gear between 20 and 90 !
  • Shock News 14 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Anyway the gist of it is that many California streets have a 6000 pound (3 ton) weight limit to prevent trucks using them as a cut-through. Many SUVs, including the Porsche Cayenne and the Toyota Landcruiser and the BMW X5 are outside that (or could be when laden). I wonder if this applies to any roads in Britain?
  • US Car prices and observations 13 May 2004 (Forum)
Just been to the States for a week (my fi=rst visit there) and am now depressed at how little money you can pay for a top spec car! BMW X3 - $30,000, Lexus 300 $20,000, Honda Accords $17,000. These are ex tax, but do taxes add significantly to the price? It was also interesting to see 'normal' European cars with not so common engines - plenty of W8 Passats and quite a few new style Audi A8s with the larger engines.
  • Help - What Car? 8 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I was going to buy a 4x4, (easy now people, calm down, deep breaths) but due to the extorniate running costs, i\'ve got in narrowed down to... VW Golf MKIV Audi A3 (Old Shape) I need 5 doors. Audi A4 BMw 3 Series Now all advice would be greatly appreciated, I\'m currently driving a MKIII Golf GTI, so i\'d like a bit of poke, safety is important, and obviously a good drive. Budget is ideally £11000.
  • New Car Profit Margins 14 Dec 2003 (Forum)
This is really triggered by HJ's road test of the BMW 520iSE. In it he says that it is worth paying the extra £1,400 for the extra power and torque of the 525iSE. Much as that may be true, as the cars have an identical specification, it seems to seems to me that £1,400 is a lot to pay for just having 6 bigger holes in the middle of the engine.
  • xantia speedometer 20 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Obviously this needs sorting asap, so if anybody has any ideas of what could be the problem and the most cost effective way around it that would be helpful. I know it cost my aunty about £300 to get the speedo on her BMW fixed a few months ago.

  • 200SX or 328 Sport 1 Jul 2003 (Forum)
After much deliberation, I've finally managed to whittle down the wishlist of motors to two possibles...a Nissan 200SX or a BMW 328 Sport. It looks like I'll get more motor for my £££s with the 200, but I'll also lose more (probably) when I sell it as the 328 Sport seems to hold its value really well. I've driven both of them and there doesn't seem to be too much difference, although the 200 does tend to fishtail in the wet :p They both seem to be generally reliable if maintained, but the BM's M52 problem is a bit of a worry.
  • Brand loyalty 20 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I confess that I have never even considered any other brand in my last 4 purchases. Possibly if I had looked at say Audi or BMW for example I may have been tempted ( for a bit more dosh of course). So I must be the type of customer the car manufacturers and dealerships must spend zillions on culturing. Am I guilty of allowing myself to be relieved of my money by seduction and manipulation.
  • Road rage 15 Mar 2003 (Forum)
In addition to the two incidents I mentioned on the fog lights thread, I witnessed another incident this morning where a BMW overtook another car, slammed on his brakes, jumped out and had 'words' with the other driver. I couldn't turn around to see what happened because I got stuck in a queue. That's three incidents in as many days - what the hell is going on?
  • Europe's worst drivers 15 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Funnily enough, and with apologies to John S and pugugly, most of the really bad overseas examples were in BMWs, but we've been there before. So: This house proposes the motion that on average the worst drivers in Europe are: The British. (closely followed by the Italians, but for different reasons) Discuss/
