Porsche Boxster - Replacing Porsche boxster with 4 seat car? 15 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I have driven the Mini Cooper D but found the ride very firm even compared to the Porsche and they are not cheap. Budget is circa 14 to 15k got to have ideally Leather and Bluetooth. Looked at Audi a1 think its a expensive polo. I would love to reduce my running costs so lower circa band c or below road tax is ideal. I also saw the DS3 but I still think it's a French car which I think will lose money and fall apart. -
What car for a long road trip across Europe... 3 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I was thinking maybe one of the Volvo diesels but from an internet search I can see sometimes they don't return the MPG that is expected. Audi's are usually way out of this price range but the Volkswagen Passat/Estate looks promising... Anyway, any advice would be much appreciated! -
Polo 1.9 tdi - Independent VW / VAG servicing Birmingham 16 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I'm looking for some recommendations for a trustworthy garage to get my cambelt changed in the Solihull / Hall Green / Olton area, preferably an Independent specialist in VW / VAG cars as I've been ripped off previously when I owned my Audi A3 by a local garage to me who claimed they were specialists (i won't name and shame them) They probably though that being a woman I wouldn't question anything, typical !! I was recommended by a friend that had previously used them a place up in Hollywood, Birmingham called Wizardworks working next to a company called Volkswizard or something like that, that did servicing and repairs on all VW Group cars, after googling the name there seems to be nothing called this anymore apart from a few broken links that don't work, does anybody know if Iain the Mechanic from there is working somewhere else now or set up on his own, any help would be much appreciated or failing that some other recommendations of other local garages, many thanks all -
Peugeot 407 Coupe - Advice on car purchase, any help would be great! 9 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Now, here is the question- would you recommend this car as a cheap weekend runaround? We have a company audi a8 for work, but this just be for shopping, and trips to see friends. Secondly, the dealer told us that the 2.7 diesel is the same unit fitted to the Range Rover Sport, can you verify this? Can we expect this car to be fairly reliable and trouble free or would you recommend another car. -
you tell me - Interesting second car 9 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Ideally don't want to spend more than £6-7k It'd be nice if I could get something that I really liked and was interesting, that had something other than being a tool. I've got quite a wide range of what i think is interesting, ranging from Audi A2 through to Jag XJ (DB7 would be nice, but don't think that I can bear to spend £15k+), and lots in between. Just looking for ideas - let me know what you think. Cheers, Optimus. -
Psychopath drivers on the increase 15 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Now there are blue police signs in both directions warning of the incident black spot and today an Audi A4 2.0 TDCi driver did a similar thing by overtaking 2 cars as they approached the same incident location, fortunately for all concerned there wasn't a vehicle coming in the opposite direction. -
SEAT Ibiza III (2002 - 2008) - Cupra TDi 160 Buying Advice? 24 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Asking price is £5895 for the Ibiza, 82000 miles, 04 reg, red colour, 3 door, recent cambelt etc. Only thing is it has got aftermarket audi replica alloy. Im not a fan of after market mods. Should this be a bad sign if it has got replica wheels? Car is on the pitch of a local well respected car seller. What is your opinion on this purchase? -
Difficult to buy a new car 3 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I am in the market for a new car and fully expecting to get a good deal in the current climate, however I am finding that its difficult to get anyone to show much interest. First tried the Audi dealership that I bought my last new car from 2 years ago - same sales guy remembered me and emailed back asking what I was interested in etc....then no quote. Gently pushed him again after a week, and again was told he would get back to me and nothing, so in my book lost sale - no third chances! -
Car to look like a cool dad 5 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I thought either a hothatch or a small 4x4. Maybe 2k a year. Escort RS1800 - simple, working mans hot hatch and not vulgar like a Cosworth Audi Coupe mid early 90's - just love them Daihatsu Fourtrack - practical so manly Mitsubishi Colt GTi - a bit more sophisticated than a Corsa SRi Saab 900 16v 3dr - proper Saab Thats a few that sprang to mind. -

Company car advice..... 8 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I would love a 3 series, but due to my band, its out of the question unless I buy it myself. Pros? Cons? Tips about some of the additional features? -
Windscreen obscured - not just tax disc 19 Jul 2007 (Forum)
The other thread about the position of the tax disc has reminded me to air my particular windscreen gripe. My Audi windscreen was cracked and so I needed a new one. In one way this pleased me because I had always been slightly irritated about the glass maker's name bonded into the screen about 3 inches from the bottom on the right of the screen together with some symbol or other bonded in about 4 inches from the top and 2 inches in from the right. -
Another "what car should I buy?" post 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
No final specs and prices yet, but there will be a 2.0 TDI DSG, and judging by current Golf & Passat should be pretty good. For similar price could probably get 1-2-year old Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDI. Or for a little more, similar aged BMW 320d touring. Advice on which to choose? Or any other suggestions? -
Unusual Sightings Vol 10 5 Mar 2007 (Forum)
t=44028 (Vol 9) Another thread for commenting on rare, unusual, old or just plain daft cars etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------- An Audi Q7 going down the M6 on saturday, never seen one before. -- Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-) -
2003 Skoda 1.9TDi Major oil leak 5 Mar 2007 (Forum)
More important, is this a known problem or failure, and is there a makers bulletin. Common engine to VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda and recovery mechanic said he'd never seen one Off I go................. -
2,000 miles in my Passat 26 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Plus points Overall build quality - inside and out Strong performance - it's loosened up a lot now and pulls really strongly even when fully laden Nice to drive - good feel and light controls Loads of space I've only tried the heated front seats twice (briefly), and I'm looking forward to those cold mornings The engine warms up much faster than my Audi 1.9TDi Good stereo Niggles That electronic handbrake takes some getting used to and seems a bit temperamental! Water spills onto your shoes when you open the boot if the lid is wet (it runs down the sides and over the bumper) Engine can sound a bit gruff when cold and at low speeds Economy is a bit disappointing at the moment (about 44mpg), I was expecting about 48-50 with my driving style/routes Difficult to check oil level on dipstick - dipstick is black! -
VW 2.0 20V engine gulping oil coolant 8 Aug 2006 (Forum)
My 2003 2.0 20v (Audi branded) engine is munching oil and coolant, but there are no leaks and no sign or oil in water or water in the oil and no signs of any leaks - it's done 45K and has been serviced to the letter by VW (4 times). -
Mercedes W124 advice welcome 18 May 2005 (Forum)
I have retired the Audi a6 2.5tdi after 132k miles, 80k by me in 5 years, with absolutely no trouble and an average of 47mpg. A great car and so after very much thought and careful looking it was replaced last weekend with a 1995 E class diesel, one of the last of the hewn from granite models, as I understand it. -
Lawman's new wheels 31 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I have tested a 2000 mazda 323 diesel, and was unimpressed with the refinement of the engine, very noisy. The interior was pretty dull too. I am not anxious to pay a premium for an Audi or a VW, but would consider another Seat, either a leon or a Toledo. I am a big fan of japanese reliability, but am unsure about their diesels. I have thought about an Almera 2.2 diesel. If I go for a Focus, should I hold out for the TDCI? -
Chipping etc 9 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I have had a look at the archives on the diesel car website and Superchips and Bromleys/Tunit both quote 130 TDCi's as producing 145 - 150bhp as standard, in the case of Tunit they tested an '02 Ghia Estate TDCi and an X-Type 2.0d which produced 148 and 147 bhp respectively before they touched them. Likewise an Audi A4 TDi 130 Quattro tested at 147bhp in standard form, this being more than the 2WD TDi 130's, the comment is that the Quattro ECU is set differently to the 2WD by the factory. However a Rover 75CDT tested at 116bhp, spot on stanadrd spec.
