Snow 'sees car insurance claims triple' 4 Feb 2009 (News)
According to Accident Exchange, it is thought there were about 30,000 crashes - rather than the usual 10,000. It claimed the rise in collisions was down to the fact Brits are unused to driving in the snow. Steve Evans, chief executive of Accident Exchange, said: "Driver inexperience is to blame with people coming across marooned cars and hitting them, driving too fast or too close to the car in front. -
New cars could save motorists money in the long run 10 Nov 2008 (News)
Commenting on the research, Europcar's fleet director Tim Bailey stated: "Our experiment shows not only that driving the newer cars will save you money, but also that the driving style adopted plays a huge part in ... fuel economy." Ford Fiesta named Scottish car of the year 3 Nov 2008 (News)
According to the manufacturer - which also took home the first prize in the competition last year for the Ford Mondeo - a panel of 17 judges from the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW) made the decision. The jury voted on factors including value for money, style and dynamic driving. Bill Craven, the president of the ASMW, presented the awards and noted it was "absolutely unbelievable" for a firm to be awarded first prize in two successive years. It shares the rear drive layout and Mustang engine of the MG ZT 260, and instead of a hefty 5-speed manual comes with what MG Rover describes as “a smooth automatic transmission”. They don’t say how many speeds the box has, but do say the car will do 0-60 in under 7 seconds and go on to 150mph. -

World record for Aston Martin at auction 9 Feb 2015 (News)
A rare left-hand drive 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Convertible sold for €1,897,500 (£1,430,715) – setting a new world auction record. The car, one of just 35 made, went under the hammer at Bonhams Grand Palais sale at Retromobile, Paris, on 5 February.

Fresnel Lenses Halve LHD HGV Sideswiping 11 Dec 2007 (News)
The initiative by former Road Safety Minister to tackle 'side-swiping' incidents involving left-hand drive trucks has shown a 59% reduction in accidents and work is now underway to roll it out across the country, current Road Safety Minister Jim Fitzpatrick announced on 6th December. The results follow the distribution of 40,000 window-mounted lenses - known as Fresnel lenses - to left-hand drive trucks entering the UK across the Dover Straits.
Bonhams to sell 105 year old Outback Mercedes in Stuttgart 1 Apr 2014 (News)
The 1909 Mercedes offered for sale is quite possibly the world’s oldest shaft-driven 35hp Mercedes. It was with this model first launched in 1908 that Mercedes introduced shaft drive into their cars. By 1914 the whole range of passenger cars was equipped with shaft drive instead of the former chain drive. This will be one of the centrepieces of the new Mercedes-Benz Museum sale, being held by Bonhams.
