      JM, Ruthin, N Wales Petrol engined cars below EU4 and diesel engined cars below EU6 will not be allowed into a lot of city centres. This is on top of the problems that diesel-engined cars tend to suffer between years 3 and 6 and I think it's going to leave a lot of fleets relying on current diesel residuals bankrupt.

Emissions are just 128g/km which means low Benefit-In-Kind tax for company car drivers. All manual versions of the Optima come with including Intelligent Stop & Go, which cuts the engine in traffic to save fuel.

    The biggest increases compared with Q1 2009 were at the higher end of the market, with the specialist sports segment up 19.5 per cent and the luxury segment up 7.0 per cent.   Fuel Q2 2008 to Q2 2009 saw the biggest increase in used diesel car sales since 2005.  Although hybrid and electric cars continued to see sales rise, the increases were not as significant as in previous years.

  • Superchips Boosts BMW E90/E92 320d to 220bhp 7 Nov 2009 (News)
    Driveability is also greatly improved, producing a car that’s both faster and easier to drive. Pleasingly, the 320D’s much praised fuel economy is unaffected by the Superchip’s ECU remap and in most instances consumption improves due to the extra low rev torque available to the driver. The new Superchips E90-E93 320D ECU remap is available in two formats for customers.

    The Golf GT TDI PD 130 not only returns 52.3 mpg on the combined cycle, but emits a mere 146 g/km of carbon dioxide. This places it in the DVLA's lowest diesel band A and means it qualifies for £110pa VED. From April 2002 it will also fall into the lowest diesel company car tax band. The 130 TDI PD engine features a six-speed manual gearbox, and in the Golf Estate and Bora, is also available with the option of a five speed Tiptronic automatic.

With this kind of car you'll want to run it on a premium fuel like Shell V-Power Nitro+ which should help retain the vRS performance and aid fuel economy too. We think this generation Octavia still looks good, especially the more angular pre-facelift version that this is.
  • Renault Kangoo ZE Van Confirmed Eligible for 20% Grant 21 Feb 2012 (News)
    “The new Plug-in Van Grant – offering up to £8,000 off one of these seven innovative vans – also makes business sense as it’s been estimated that a small electric van will typically cost £100 less in fuel for every thousand miles driven compared to a diesel equivalent.” Renault has already received several business orders for its Kangoo Van Z.E., including ISS and JC Decaux. The former, displayed one of their liveried Kangoo Van Z.E.s this morning, for their Transport for London (TfL) bus stand and station cleaning contract, alongside one of the French marque’s Maxi versions.

    The plug-in hybrid Octavia combines a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine with an 85kW electric motor and six-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Hot petrol and diesel models are expected at a later date - meaning the Octavia vRS range will mirror the new Volkswagen Golf GTE, GTI and GTD range. With instant torque available from the start, the Octavia vRS iV can sprint to 62mph in 7.3 seconds, topping out at 140mph.
  • Plug-in hybrid car grant axed with immediate effect 22 Oct 2018 (News)
    “The plug-in car grant has been a runaway success, helping bring more than 160,000 ultra-low emission vehicles to our roads over the last seven years, and delivering significant CO2 savings compared to petrol or diesel cars," said a DfT spokesperson.  “Following exceptional demand, the sales cap for all vehicles eligible for the grant has been reached, and the new grant rates are now in effect. These changes will allow us to focus support on zero-emission vehicles, such as pure electric and hydrogen fuel cell cars.
