  • Merc heat reflecting windscreen - type? 3 May 2006 (Forum)
A manager at work wants to use a Tom Tom device and the website states they will not work with athermic type heat reflecting windscreens. His car does have a heat reflecting windscreen but is it athermic? (Sorry if they are one and the same!) It's an E270 auto Avantgarde about 2 years old. Andrew

Any ideas how to get the old radio/cassette out?? Thanks!
  • Nissan X-Trail 2.5 22 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Moved out to the woods and need to change my car (an Insight btw). Anyone owns or spent time with a 2.5 X-Trail? Auto or Manual, I dont mind. 2yr old ones are good value at the dealerships. I should look at the dCI but have heard of reliability issues.
  • Type-R is it worth it ? 22 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Hi to All, I'm really keen on the outgoing Honda Civic Type-R and made a saving this time last year when purchasing a Ford Focus 1.8 edge (£9.3k). In a bid to buy a new car and make a saving due to the fact it's an old model and it's January - Does anyone know where the beat place to pick up a new type-r at reasonable money is ? Look forward to your thoughts! Nick

  • Golf Mk2 - new or recon alternator? 20 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hello, It looks like part of my alternator is not functioning properly, but I may need to replace the whole part. Since my car is now quite old (13 years), will a reconditioned alternator be sufficient? If so, will a garage even fit one or will I have to buy new? Any advice much appreciated (probably going to ring my local garage tomorrow to have it looked at).
  • How fast for 7K 13 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I'm in the market for a car around the 6-8k mark.. Want decent size and high performance. Was looking at impreza turbos but for that money the mileage is too high or they're too old..Insurace group not so much of a big deal as I'm on fleet cover.
  • Child allowed in front seat? 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
    - Does anyone know if under-12 year olds can travel in the front passenger seat of the car, in Germany? (Even with a child seat fitted and seatbelt on?) I don't think it's allowed in France, and I'm not sure about the UK any more? I'm going on a long run up to Denmark next week and am thinking of driving overnight; my son will have more space up-front.
  • Autobox on Volvo S80 7 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I am asking on behalf of my friend. He is going to get a 4-5 year-old S80 2.4SE (170ps). The question is how many gears does the autobox have? Who makes the autobox? How reliable is the autobox? Volvo service schedule requires ATF change every 50k. As the car will have near 100k on the clock, can it be reasonable to expect another 100k on its original box?
  • scratched paintwork 11 May 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I have metalic gray paintwork on a two year old car, it has collected a few minor scratches / scuffmarks plus a passenger has just decided to push the door open to its full extent against a wall, and that has left scratch marks on the door edge, I live in the Eastbourne area, does anyone know how I can restore the paintwork, and take out one pea sized dent on the bonnet?
  • A very light sentence... 21 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Story in my local rag yesterday: Lorry driver who turned his vehicle over on a bend whilst speeding, crushed a car coming the other way and killed the old chap driving it. He already had nine points for speeding offences, and the investigation into this crash found that he'd tampered with the limiter. He got 3 points and therefore a 28-day ban under the totting-up procedure.
  • A Question of Oils 17 Feb 2005 (Forum)
What is semi synthetic if it not a mixture of synthetic and normal oil? I could have done with the info yesterday as I had to top up a gearbox in an old car and only had a litre of semi synthtic in the garage. I was concerned about using it so had to hunt around to get some ordinary oil. Thanks.
  • Whats it Worth?? 25 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Evening All.. A good friend and neighbour of mine recently died, and left behind numurous old cars in all states of repair, that his wife is having to sell, one of which she thinks she may have an interested buyer. Trouble is, we have no idea of its selling value. It is a 105E Ford Anglia, it needs rebuilding, all the parts are there, including the engine, which is sat in the back seat.
  • Auto Supermarkets 31 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I\'ve just started out on a search for my next wagon and wanted to ask if negotiating a purchase at the Supermarkets is the same as at a Dealership or from a private seller - or are the prices deemed so reasonable as to be immovable? One place I\'ve looked at is Jeffries Farm in Crawley. The cars are generally 2 years old or less, RAC Inspected if less than 10,000 miles and HPI vetted. Also, when bargaining, is there ever a standard figure/percentage to knock off the display ticket to proceed with?
  • Out of the mouths of babes & ... 4 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Last night SWMBO and I walked through the local council estate as a shaven headed hulk bid goodbye to a streaky blonde in a car. Streaky blonde gives it lots of welly and disappears out of sight with a great noise redolent of tearing calico and neglect. Lots of little boys (2 to 4 years old) playing in a gang are very impressed and run across, one earnestly called out to the hulk, "Daddy, what is it, a go cart?"

  • Renault UK Repair Problems 21 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I was involved in an accident in May this year and 7 months later I am still waiting for an interior pannel with no explanation as to the delay or why. My car is only 4 years old! What can I do about it? They do not even respond to my letters! The local dealer ignores the issue as well. Highly stressed - Suggestions welcomed
  • Can I do this for 6k? 1 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I am looking to get a Network Q Y Reg old shape Vectra (1.8 or 2.2) with air con, ABS a CD player, and 2 front air bags and less than 30k on the clock for a budget of 6k. I've only started looking this weekend, and prices on these kind of cars seem to be about 1k adrift.
