Fabia vrS buying experience 23 May 2006 (Forum)
When I queried why there were no car mats, it was because they already had them out cleaning them and they looked brand new to me! No pressure to sell me finance, in fact the question wasn't even raised. A fantastic buying experience, totally different to the hardsell, 10 salesman working out the one branch that I am used to before. I hope the ownership experience is just as good. -
Nissan X Trail Letdown 14 Nov 2005 (Forum)
On Friday I looked around a new X Trail and liked the interior, clever design, rugged looks and an excellent 0% finance deal to boot. I booked a test drive Saturday AM. I was up early cleaning the Leon inside and out, checked Parkers for trade-in price, took all the paperwork and headed off to do the deal, except for a slight problem: I didn't like it. -

buying advice for a relative newbie 23 Jul 2004 (Forum)
(only cost £450 and it's done 9-10k trouble free driving). I've been playing with some figures and I reckon my budget is around £6,000. (Mainly finance through a personal loan - seems the cheapest option). I'm probably looking for something of a similar size or slightly bigger as it's difficult to park where I live. Unsure of my mileage at the moment as my work situation has recently changed and I'm now mainly working from home but I have to go into the office usually once a week which is a 100 mile round trip via motorway / dual carriageway (Newcastle to Stockton) so 1.0L engines are out. -

Too Good a Deal !! 16 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I have to go along tomorrow with my sister and haggle him down!! I have told my sister to bring all her trade in documentation and proof of address details for finance etc to show the salesman she is going to do a deal if it is right. The salesman has said that Arnold Clark have already committed to these and if they don't sell them then they will register them themselves, probably use for hire for a few months and then sell on. -
Going Nuts? 19 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I've spent the last four years espousing the benefit of driving an old car which is paid for and suffering the odd big bill - but I now find myself hypnotised by shiny metallic paint and finance deals. Will I regret this in 2 years time when I'm still paying out every month or will I be happy with the knowledge that I'm protected from big bills in my shiny car? All advice appreciated, Lee. -
Vintage Merc or a Skoda Octavia ? 27 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Have covered secure parking space for it The attraction is that I could pay cash down for the Merc whereas I need to finance the Skoda ( have already splashed out on an upmarket house so no additional drips would be welcome). Could the impartial HJ forum, please tell me 1: Which makes economic sense over next 4 years 2: Will the Merc be a liability with massive maintenance bills considering that it would be used for long drives and weekend use ? -
Fleet Auctions 26 Oct 2001 (Forum)
My advice buy directly from a leasing company ( check out exchange and mart ) or car supermarket but avoid finance deals. At least you can drive these cars and check out the paperwork unlike at most auctions. -

Peugeot Citroen in trouble 1 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Since then, the French Government stepped in with financial aid for Peugeot's own bank, ensuring it could still offer competitive finance to new car buyers. The deal now hinges on GM. Sources say GM bosses need assurances that they would be able to cut plants and jobs “at reasonable cost.” Widespread cuts in France, which would be almost certain under GM control, would be fiercely resisted by President Hollande's government. -

Renault Austral - Vehicle Rejection Issue 27 Sep 2025 (Forum)
After the second time this fault happened, I raised complaints with the dealership, Renault and the finance company. My initial thoughts were to get the vehicle replaced but after suffering a third case of the same fault I am at the point where I don't feel able to trust a vehicle with the same hybrid system so am pushing for a refund. -

Leo the Leaf replacement 23 May 2025 (Forum)
Car is mint, approved used and as part of VW’s used car event it comes with two years VW warranty, breakdown cover, a £250 finance contribution and free servicing. If you take a PCP, which I have and will pay off immediately. Managed to bag it for £1000 less than our local dealer for the same thing too. Arnold Clark had one almost identical that was a year older for the same money and a measly 90 day warranty - I honestly don’t know why people buy cars from them.
