  • starting up car business 11 Jan 2011 (Forum)
With a fair ammount of knowledge of motors and a fair/good understanding of the industry and buyers trends, i am tempted to go part-time in work and buy and sell cars with the rest of my time. I have had various jobs form finding cars for customers to being a vehicle finance manager. I currently buy a car form a BCA or mainhein auction, keep it a few months and sell it on for slighlty more than the purchase cost. I was wondering about some set-up costs? how much is it to open an account with BCC?
  • Need suggestions on buying a fuel efficient car 7 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Is it preferable to go for a new car or an used car? 5. I dont have the full money to buy a new car, so I will go for finance. But one thing I noticed is that the car companies are imposing a mileage limit (eg: 10000 miles an year) which doesn't suit to me as I easily do around 30000 miles an year. 6. I can adjust with3  door cars also, but it should have AC.
  • Fiat 500 - Help with car for lifestyle change... 3 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Planning taking a year out to travel and need to save for 18 months. Need to get a car that will cause minimal expense over that period. Finance will be money borrowed from relative at 4% so cheap to borrow - a cheap car might not be the ideal solution if borrowing is that cheap.  Milage is 60 a day on urban streets and fast dual carriageway.
  • Ford Focus - Negotiating with Franchised dealer by email? 25 Sep 2010 (Forum)
For example emailing about a Ford Focus on at £5600 and asking if they would consider £4800? Also we would probably be buying on finance which brings up another question; should we be saying what monthly payment and term we would go to instead of offering a full price? Apologies for the long post and thanks in advance for any advice!

  • Vauxhall Corsa D - 05 Corsa 1.4 16v auto/08 Corsa 1.2 semi auto? 20 Jun 2010 (Forum)
However, it's mint and comes with 3 years dealer warranty from Vauxhall and they're offering a fairly decent finance deal. Option 2 is at Motorpoint and is £6,299 but they want £175 over 42 months after which there'd still be £2,300 or thereabouts balloon payment. However, there is the benefit of the latter being (presumably) cheaper to run owing to better fuel consumption, lower insurance, etc.
  • Advice Needed: Mondeo diesel 155 or Octavia 140 18 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I'm looking to replace my current car with a diesel estate with a budget of a maximum of £8k but would prefer to spend no more than £7. I will be buying with cash so no finance involved and will be keeping the car for a minimum of three years. I therefore want something that I will enjoy driving and I assume that I will be looking at around an 05-06 plate. I have driven a diesel 130 Mondeo estate in the past and currently have an old 2.0 petrol estate mondeo.
  • Ford Focus III (2008 - ) - buying nearly new from dealer 2 Apr 2009 (Forum)
When was it first registered. 6. Is the car any kind of reject / warranty return. 7. Is there any finance outstanding on the vehicle. 8. Is the balance of the mfr's warranty still valid. How do I check all this stuff? Is there any other info I should be asking for? What documents should the dealer be able to show me?
  • 5-6 year ownership stick or twist? 14 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Its a question to which I do think there is a definitive answer, but I would welcome your thoughts. For the average owner ( a 12k car new, lets assume no finance to factor in), on a reasonably average income, doing 10k a year including their 45 min / 15 mile stop start commute over the potholes and speed bumps of Britain, at which point does it make most sense to change a car.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 03 1.4 Replacing a lost remote key fob? 13 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Hi. Ive recently bought a Ford Fiesta Flame 1.4 53 Reg from a local garage. The car was a finance repossession from the previous owner. The car only came with 2 normal keys so i went into my local ford dealer to see if they could find out if my car did have remote central locking. They checked using my reg and it does have remore locking so the previous owner must have lost the fob.
  • Fabia vrS buying experience 23 May 2006 (Forum)
When I queried why there were no car mats, it was because they already had them out cleaning them and they looked brand new to me! No pressure to sell me finance, in fact the question wasn't even raised. A fantastic buying experience, totally different to the hardsell, 10 salesman working out the one branch that I am used to before. I hope the ownership experience is just as good.
  • Nissan X Trail Letdown 14 Nov 2005 (Forum)
On Friday I looked around a new X Trail and liked the interior, clever design, rugged looks and an excellent 0% finance deal to boot. I booked a test drive Saturday AM. I was up early cleaning the Leon inside and out, checked Parkers for trade-in price, took all the paperwork and headed off to do the deal, except for a slight problem: I didn't like it.

  • buying advice for a relative newbie 23 Jul 2004 (Forum)
(only cost £450 and it's done 9-10k trouble free driving). I've been playing with some figures and I reckon my budget is around £6,000. (Mainly finance through a personal loan - seems the cheapest option). I'm probably looking for something of a similar size or slightly bigger as it's difficult to park where I live. Unsure of my mileage at the moment as my work situation has recently changed and I'm now mainly working from home but I have to go into the office usually once a week which is a 100 mile round trip via motorway / dual carriageway (Newcastle to Stockton) so 1.0L engines are out.

  • Too Good a Deal !! 16 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I have to go along tomorrow with my sister and haggle him down!! I have told my sister to bring all her trade in documentation and proof of address details for finance etc to show the salesman she is going to do a deal if it is right. The salesman has said that Arnold Clark have already committed to these and if they don't sell them then they will register them themselves, probably use for hire for a few months and then sell on.
  • Going Nuts? 19 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I've spent the last four years espousing the benefit of driving an old car which is paid for and suffering the odd big bill - but I now find myself hypnotised by shiny metallic paint and finance deals. Will I regret this in 2 years time when I'm still paying out every month or will I be happy with the knowledge that I'm protected from big bills in my shiny car? All advice appreciated, Lee.
  • Vintage Merc or a Skoda Octavia ? 27 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Have covered secure parking space for it The attraction is that I could pay cash down for the Merc whereas I need to finance the Skoda ( have already splashed out on an upmarket house so no additional drips would be welcome). Could the impartial HJ forum, please tell me 1: Which makes economic sense over next 4 years 2: Will the Merc be a liability with massive maintenance bills considering that it would be used for long drives and weekend use ?
  • Fleet Auctions 26 Oct 2001 (Forum)
My advice buy directly from a leasing company ( check out exchange and mart ) or car supermarket but avoid finance deals. At least you can drive these cars and check out the paperwork unlike at most auctions.
