The perfect cheap used car 26 Apr 2024 (Forum)
I prefer buying privately because you get to meet the last owner face to face and seeing where they live tells you a lot about how their attitude to maintenance and their personal finances. This one was on the drive of a particularly nice large home and the very pleasant lady who occupied it had recently had a promotion and car allowance which was the reason for selling despite recently having shelled out for new tyres, rear calippers and a full service. -
A car that a man from Ukraine needs for work. 17 Dec 2023 (Forum)
I am not hired, because I can not legally leave my daughter alone at home, she is not 13 years old, and employers need people who will work until 7 pm. It's very hard for me and my daughter now, we lack finances. I found a job in delivery, but need a car to work. I wanted to ask all the participants if anyone can help me and my daughter. We need a car, maybe someone has an extra one or doesn't drive one. -
Toyota Auris - Old Corolla or Auris - such a dilemma!!! 7 Sep 2021 (Forum)
I’m looking into either a 2006 Corolla or a 2007+ Auris. My budget is less than £2,000 thanks to Covid decimating my finances. According to reviews, both motoring writers and users, the Auris is a potentially problematic car ... oil guzzling, parts failing catastrophes. How true is this? I’ve owned 2 Corollas in the past and they were amazing. -
Reliably cheap 29 Jan 2021 (Forum)
There’s no repairs to worry about for another three years at least and with 50mpg plus economy plus cheap insurance it’s probably as cheap as it gets. But the big saving comes from not taking the expensive dealer finance and instead opting for the cheaper and more flexible bank loan. This saves the best part of £1200 in interest over a typical used car PCP deal at 9.9% APR. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202101218194893 -

What fuel next 6 Mar 2018 (Forum)
New to the forum and have a dilemma. I currently own a 2015 plate Nissan Qashqai 1.5 dci and its coming to the end of its finance ageement in June 2018 and I will be handing it back. To be honest it’s a nice car to drive but with endless problems I have had with it well I don’t want it. I have two kids and normally Work journey is a 14 mile 30-45 minute stop start traffic with a top speed of 40mph. -
Ford Mondeo - Advice Needed - Short term solution needed 7 Mar 2017 (Forum)
The problem is there's an issue with my credit file, a mistake which I'm chasing up and is going to take around 2 months to rectify. In the mean time, I don't know what to do. I can't get the 0% finance from Ford until this issue is rectified and need to be on the road to get to work until it's sorted. I'm not good with cars hence am seeking advice from you all, so thank you in advance. Can you recommend any makes/models of used vehicles I could buy for cash and look to trade in when I get the Edge, without losing too much money in the process? -
Picasso c3 v CMax V Juke - Changing car 14 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Which of the above is best to consider, I have been offered £5300 part ex for Fabia, and have a max of £9000 Inc part ex, would like to keep it nearer £ 8000 if I can hence we are not looking at newer cars than Fabia, and don't want to do finance at all. Any advice on above or alternatives appreciated. -

Car dealer working from home. 12 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I decided to investigate & found his website, it appears his a legitimate car dealer (limited co) who recently closed down his 25 car site & now sells from home, I guess the recession has effected him, his website shows his a limited co, registered with vat, registered with dvla, has debit credit card facilities, offers finance the whole usual dealer package! I have no problem with the cars, as they all seem to be 34 year old cars minimum £5000, no one has complained, his not got any signs on the cars & only parks on his drive way or in his garage, any visitors park out side his driveway The questions is he allowed & should I be concerned? -
Accident claim 19 Dec 2011 (Forum)
He sold this as the best idea and as I was pretty shaken up I just went with his suggestion. I've received loads of paperwork from Albany with a Vehicle Repair Finance Agreement and Credit Protection Policy included. I've also received a letter from Gemini Vehicle Solutions saying they'll cover everything for me to ensure "that you do not become liable for any future costs or potentially difficult legal proceedings". -
Ford Focus - buying a new car after DPF problems on peugeot 307 25 Oct 2011 (Forum)
my boyfriend and i have recently been quoted £633 to repair the DPF on our 04' peugeot 307 2.0 HDi, long story short, the car isnt worth fixing, we only paid £1000 for it as the miliage is very high, it was ment to be more of a stepping stone whilst we saved for a better car, now we will just have to take out a car on finance anyway! my partner wants to get it as 'right' as possible this time, so we would appreciate your opinions on cars suited to us, we do roughly 200 miles per week, and have two small children (2 and 3 months) ideally a cheap car to tax that does some good miles to the gallon etc, preferably WITHOUT THE DAMNED DPF if thats possible! -
Should I Opt Out of Car Allowance for Co Car? 15 Jul 2011 (Forum)
This car allowance currently funds my current car (personal loan) and the loan is coming to an end and my plan is to upgrade car again (as I do every 4 years) financed through a personal loan and equity from current car However I have now gone to a new project and my business mileage will increase to 23k plus personal. I am know thinking I might be better off with a company car - they currently offer bmw 3 series or Audi A4. -
Help Deciding New & Unusual/Rare Cheap-To-Run Car 24 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Basically, I am looking for a new car, brand new OR used, depending on value/finance options. I am specifically looking for something that your less likely to find on the road compared to a more popular car like a Fiesta. I'm looking for something more rare, and/or something new on the market, something unusual. -
Test driving a new car 18 May 2011 (Forum)
I arrive at the booked time and have to sit through a HPI check and inspection of my current car - even though I hadn't even mentioned part-ex or a trade-in price (after all this he wouldn't even tell me the part-ex price; "not our policy until you agree to buy") and a mini unwanted finance speech (despite me saying twice I'm looking to pay cash in full) Despite booking a specific engine model, well in advance, and clearly stating that was the model I wanted to try.. I turned up to a lesser model with the excuse "another customer has the other". -
BMW X5 - compensation 19 Apr 2011 (Forum)
We now are in the prcocess of taking our civil case for compensation, what exactley are we entitled to claim for???? We made payments on the finance agreement, we also traded in a freelander jeep as deposit. We had to buy a cheap run around for a year and for all the other time we have had to use taxis, over the 4 to 5 years that have passed we have had to due to family, school, childrens classes, work and university pay more money than i care to think about in taxis..roughly £150 pound a week. -
A thank you to Chevrolet UK 27 Mar 2011 (Forum)
So, if you're insured with Admiral, stick to your guns. With no GAP insurance, and an enforced early finance settlement - thanks to Admiral's stubborn refusal to initiate a 'nil balance invoice' which would have substituted a similar vehicle (one of their own low mileage fleet cars offered by Chevrolet UK at CAP price), thus obviating the need for a costly settlement of the agreement - allied to my son's excess and uninsured losses, things looked bleak. -
HJ Questions / WeBuyAnyCar / NMR 10 Mar 2011 (Forum)
It records keeper changes where the mileage is entered on the V5, servicing mileages from some manufacturers, some information from leasing companies, finance houses etc., results of it's own investigations and most importantly the mileages entered when a NMR check is done. The vast majority of errors seem to come from the latter source. For example, last week I did a NMR check on an Audi which had done 155k.
