  • Most Reliable Hatchback For Under 5k? 23 Sep 2020 (Forum)
I'm thinking of a Honda Civic, same shape as the FN2, Hyundai I30, Kia Ceed or possibly a Focus. Not sure I fancy a Vauxhall or anything French or Nissan (used to be great cars, wouldn't have one now).  I just wondered if anybody had any ideas, or know of issues with petrol engines etc or these cars, or could suggest something else thanks.

Slightly worried about the age - newer version of the Jazz, again should I worry about the bills? It'll be 14 years old when paid for 3. Nissan Note Accenta Prem dci 41k mies 2014 £6350 main dealer 5yr 0% finance - includes Three month warranty but extendable. Excellent mpg and drives well, but is it a risk out of warranty?  4.
  • Any - Rusty cars 5 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Might be repeating myself here, but a work colleague of mine was infamous for the state of his vehicles. A Cavalier Mk 1, one entire side of which was packed and shaped with filler. A Nissan Estate--no idea which model, except that it was mid 80s vintage-- but the point is that he kept it on the road between MOTs even though none of the doors opened and we had to climb in and out of the windows, which were permanently left ajar for that purpose.

Ford Fusion 2009 - Automatic "surges" Car a write off. 15 May 2016 (Forum)
I have driven automatics for twenty years after my left ankle was fixed to some extent with screws and I felt that ther was not enough flex in the ankle to control a clutch. Now I am negotiating for a used Nissan Note automatic and am quite worried. Under no circumstances can I give up driving as I live in the country. My life has come to a stop for the last ten days while the insurers work it all out.  My usual local garage and car salesman said at once "Ah, a surge.

  • Mercedes C class, Skoda Yeti - What to buy for longevity of ownership? 11 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I recently bought a Nissan Qashqai+2 1.6 Acenta petrol which I am not getting on with so it will have to go. I love the driving position but I want an automatic again. It is also woefully underpowered and I am forever changing gear to get it to go up even minor hills.
  • Minor Bump 9 Oct 2015 (Forum)
The main road near us, going through Sutton Coldfield into Birmingham has recently changed from a 40 limit to a 30. Some people havent realised this, so this morning I had Nissan Juke in my boot flashing its lights while I pootled at 30-35. Aware that the Juke was very close, I indicated very early for my road and slowed gradually, but on turning in to my road, the Juke hit my rear bumper and lights.
  • C Max, Golf Plus or something else - Car choice conumdrum 12 Mar 2014 (Forum)
My wife has a Nissan Note and I currently have an 03 Ford Fusion, basically I'm looking to part ex my fusion against something newer ideally 09-11 plate,  when it comes to cars I'm insanely boring & practical, I'm after a car that's reliable, has low running costs (tax & mpg), and can easily carry five plus luggage, including a push chair.
  • Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - (Clutch & other) problems on Toyota Avensis 2005 14 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I have had cars for many years, I always buy them nearly new (and within the manufacturer guarantee), keep them for 4 years or so, and have never, ever, had to spent a penny on them (mainly Nissans) beyond annual servicing. I would love to know if anyone else has suffered the same or been told similar by the dealer.

I have no preference for makes/models whatsoever, please suggest anything. I have owned and loved 3 nissans which I've found reliable and ok for repairs. • Honda Accord UK (1998 - 2003) - Keep the Accord or trade? 20 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I reckon we cold get maybe £1200 privately, maybe £1500 trade in. Option to change- I'm looking at Nissan Notes about 56- 07 plate, 20k, for about £6500. The CBCB says very nice things, and they seem to be very good value both in purchase price and running cost. Some of her colleagues are saying she should hang onto the Honda as it probably has another 5 years in it.
  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - Autobox delay after kickdown 7 Oct 2009 (Forum)
My Renault 2.0 litre petrol Grand Scenic (55 plate) has an autobox which I believe may be by Nissan. There is no torque converter -- it's a robotised manual -- and no Lock or Hold. If manual intervention is called for, you shove the lever to the left and it becomes a flip-lever manual box. I do not normally use kickdown, but if a bit of urge is needed I just move the lever into manual and flip it to drop a gear, afterwards moving back to auto.

  • Define underpowered 24 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I read time and again on this forum about cars being 'underpowered'. The latest discussion is subsequent to TVM's informative report on the Nissan Qashqai where 105bhp deemed insufficient. So I just wonder how we define 'underpowered' these days. Living in Germany years ago with an early 100bhp Audi 100(not a small car) I would cruise comfortably at 100mph on the autobahn.
  • Ummmm, what to do? 26 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I will be doing about 10k business miles per year and would have about £175 to spend on the car, for this I could get an Astra/Focus or my favorite choice a Ford Ranger ;o) It would mean a new car, look good at customers sites and hopefully have little in the way ongoing repair costs. 2nd choice - and the one I am leaning towards at the moment is to spend about £2k on a luxary barge, buying it as a private car and taking the 40ppm out of the business (would be better off financialy with this choice) For this money I could easily get a Nissan QX with less then 80k and all the toys - and hopefully the reliability as well - run it for 2 years or so and if need be scrap it after this time (having made £8k out of milage). Down side is the possibility of big repair bills!!!
  • Car transfer jitters - advice please 23 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, Advice would be welcomed over a little potential problem/dilemma as follows:- I have recently sold my (deceased) mother in laws's old Nissan Micra (vintage 1990) which had been 'sorned' and garaged for the last 4 years. I advertised it on E Bay with the intention of giving the proceeds to the local church. It reached the princely sum of £60 but I gave an honest and frank descrption of the car including the above and that it did not possess an MOT and that is probably needed new brake discs (at least).
  • Buyer bites back! 8 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Went to a car supermarket yesterday, drove a very nice nissan primera 2.2 diesel. I didn't intend to purchase the car then & there, however I did intend to consider it overnight. After the test drive, the sales guy could clearly see that I liked the car, and proceeded to get me to sign on the dotted.
