  • New Michelin tyres last longer, and save fuel without sacrificing grip 30 Jun 2010 (News)
Longevity remains Michelin’s prime attribute, usually meaning that the company’s slightly more expensive tyres cost less in the long run. Relatively low rolling resistance means they also save you money in fuel. But no driver puts longevity and fuel saving over safety, so Michelin’s tyres must also provide grip at least the equivalent of the competition.   And that is what Michelin set out to prove to us at the ADAC testing facility near Berlin.

  • STORMY ECONOMICS HITS USED CONVERTIBLE VALUES 21 Jun 2008 (News)
“The credit crunch is inevitably playing a part, and convertibles are particularly vulnerable to consumer belt-tightening as they are seen as a luxury purchase. They are also often less fuel efficient than conventional saloons and hatchbacks - not a particularly desirable trait given widespread fears about spiralling fuel prices. While some models are available with more economical diesel engines, these examples remain scarce on the second-hand market.
  • Hyundai gets into the funeral business, BMW's political roundel badges and a SEAT Leon with a 10,000-mile range 1 Apr 2010 (News)
Since the SEAT comes with a 12-month/10,000-mile service interval as standard, the new prototype model need only ever be fuelled by a SEAT dealer. As such, the car is not fitted with a conventional fuel filler flap or cap, the diesel instead being refilled via a special nozzle in the boot. Even higher mileage drivers covering, for example, 12,000 miles a year could collect their car in, say, June and then look forward to ten months of unstoppable motoring before their vehicle's first scheduled 10,000-mile service and an April fuel stop.

Launching the ULEZ extension, the mayor also urged Government to consider a new scrappage scheme, targeted mainly at pre-Euro 6 diesel cars. Kahn said, 'Some motorists will need help switching to greener transport options. Which is why City Hall are urging ministers to deliver a diesel scrappage scheme to get the dirtiest cars off our roads and offer drivers a fair deal, especially the many diesel drivers who brought vehicles thinking they were more environmentally friendly after Government advice.'

  • Skoda Fabia vRS (2003-2007) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
You have to remember too that while diesel hot hatches are pretty common now, in 2003 they were few and far between. The Golf GT TDI (powered by the same engine) was making waves, but it didn’t have the impact the Fabia did. With a kerbweight of little more than 1300kg, the light Fabia is still sensationally quick but what impresses most is how effortless the performance is.

Every second service will be in the region of £300 as the L200 need new filters. A lot of problems with L200s arise due to people not changing the fuel filters and putting cheap diesel in without the lubricants and cleaners. It’s well worth putting premium diesels in it to keep the L200 running at its very best. The timing belt needs changing at 62,500 miles or every four years, whichever comes first, costing around £300 for the kit that includes the hydraulic tensioner.
  • Used Van Buying Guide: Toyota Hilux 2004-2015 16 Jun 2025 (News)
Listen out for any tappet-like sounds under the bonnet, if so it points to problems with the injectors. Other hints that the fuel injection system is playing up is limited performance and smoke when starting up. Ask what fuel the owner has put in it, cheaper, poor quality fuel not doing the common rail injection system any good.
