  • How times have changed 26 Sep 2020 (Forum)
A couple of weks ago I was looking out of a pub window at the two rows of cars in the car park. On the left were four Audis and one Skoda. On the right were three BMWs, one Yaris and one Focus. At least not an MPV nor SUV in sight. Not so many years ago the majority would have been Vauxhall, Ford, Austin, Morris and Rover.
  • Goodyear Cargo v car tyre 9 Mar 2020 (Forum)
I’m replacing the Goodyear Vectors on my BMW which have surprised me by covering over 30k. Shopping around I’ve found the Cargo version in the size I need to be significantly cheaper than the standard Vector. What are your thoughts about sticking these on a 320 Estate front and rear?
  • What car to choose 9 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Honda CRV Mazda CX- 5 Skoda Octavia VRS Vauxhall Insignia  I've currently got a BMW 3 series estate but find the boot size quite small, and the comfort not so great on long jorneys.
  • Jensen Interceptor - What's wrong with this picture? 23 May 2014 (Forum)
This is what happens when a Jensen Interceptor and a BMW 740 are allowed to breed, apparently.  Should've been put down at birth, I think.  A good example of how to ruin one of the most timeless classic designs.  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1970-JENSEN-INTERCEPTOR-MK-II-AUTOMATIC-LONG-WHEEL-BASE-/301168536581?

There are only two types of person. Those that like cars and those that don't. But I'll make two points. Are BMW drivers aggressive? And are Volvo drivers blind? Well, there's no smoke without fire."
  • HJ's Jaguar XF 4.2 road test 16 May 2008 (Forum)
The thing is handsome too although fairly Euro-anonymous. But isn't that knob-controlled transmission similar to something BMW brought out a couple of years ago and that people complained about?

  • Where to find auction guide prices 3 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I just wondering if I could pick some HJ heads , where is the best place to obtain guide prices for cars at auction . I am looking at a BMW 530d M-Sport Saloon 2006-55 with 30000 miles on it just wanted to know what kind of upper limit I should have? Many thanks for any help.
  • Microprocessors 24 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Typically, how many computer microprocessors are there on a small car (eg Yaris) and how many on a top of the range Merc or BMW? I am shortly doing a talk on the history of computers and just want to show how ubiquitous they are now. Obviously, I can list all the control functions I can think of, but I do not know which have their own computers and which are combined together.
  • Run Flat Tyres 27 Feb 2007 (Forum)
As mentioned in my PCP thread, the BMW 320 I'm looking at has got run flat tyres. I mentioned that I thought the tyres were low on air as the steering was very vague and the car quite 'skittish'. It seemed to 'tramline' a lot as well. Subsequently found out about the run flats.
  • Best looking Car(s) 19 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Regardless of cost what car do you think is: a) The best car lb for £ & b) The best looking car ever built. My attempt at this is a) Series 5 BMW (lb for £) b) Aston Martin V8 Vantage
  • AA RAC etc - will they change bulbs? 15 Feb 2006 (Forum)
A lot of cars now need a visit to the garage to change the headlamp (or in some cases, any) bulbs. As it's illegal to knowingly drive with blown bulbs, will the AA/RAC, and also the likes of BMW Assist and Mercedes Mobilolife etc, turn out and change the bulb for you? Strikes me that this would be a lot cheaper than an hour in a dealer getting it done?
  • New Price Rises 8 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I noticed that Daihatsu have sneaked in a price rises recently, roughthly 7% across the range. Kia have done it in the last couple of months, so have Hyundai with refreshes. BMW, Honda did it and I think so did Ford a little while ago. Car prices had been coming down for several years, does this mean that they will be going up from now on ?
  • Caterham Bypass Accident this morning. 21 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Did anyone get caught up in the traffic jam on the southbound lanes of the Caterham bypass at about 11-30am this morning as a result of a nasty car accident with a lorry. When we were all ushered past the scene there was a BMW on its roof in the outside lane and it was in a pretty awful state - very upsetting and I was wondering about the state of the occupant/s? Oh dear!!
  • Manuals for cars 29 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I was in my local oxfam in amersham browsing at the books as you do, and there were Haynes manuals for the Type 3 volkswagen, and a workshop manual for a BMW 2002, together with a manual on how to tune a Ford 10 engine from 1954. Don't know but they may be interest to someone on here.
  • Extended Warranty Costs 18 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Could anybody in the B.R. advise of the price of extended warrany on their M. Benz & Audis, or for comparison, any other manufacturer?? I ask because BMW have recently increased their prices on the 3 series by over 40% from £510 to £720 per annum. On the 5 Series the price increase is nearly 60% from £620 to £970 per annum, which seems excessive to say the least.!!
  • Foglights in the rain 20 May 2004 (Forum)
Sorry if this has been done to death before: Followed a car (BMW 320) down the sliproad onto the M3 at Southampton this morning (no mist whatsoever, just rain). As he pulled onto the M3 in the driving rain at 60mph, he flicked on his foglights, making it all but impossible to spot his brakelights going on...presumably he was trying to be safe.
  • Interesting warranty stats 5 May 2004 (Forum)
Of the ones that I looked at last week, the proportion of warranty hours compared to total hours were as follows:- Toyota - 1% Honda - 10% Hyundai - 12% BMW - 43% MB - 47% This was obviously on one week, but it sure tells a story.
