Most Written off car. 5 Jun 2006 (Forum)
The figures broadly reflect the typical shape of the UK car parc, with Ford occupying the top three places, followed by Vauxhall, Rover, Renault, Nissan, Volkswagen and BMW. Ford Fiesta was found to account for seven per cent of all claims during the period, followed by Ford Escort (6%), Ford Mondeo (5%), Vauxhall Corsa (4%), Vauxhall Astra (4%), Rover 200 (3%), Renault Clio (3%), Nissan Micra (3%), Volkswagen Golf (3%) and BMW 3 Series (2%). -
Finally got Her back behind the wheel! 10 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I don't seem to be covering a lot of miles at the moment because I am working locally, The Discovery hardly gets used, the van only goes locally, but the Nissan seems to be clocking up more miles than ever! H -

Any - How long does an exhaust pipe last? 7 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I’ve owned cars for 30 odd years now and in that time, I’ve replaced one exhaust pipe on a Japanese import Nissan Figaro that we’ve had for 18 years. Have had both petrol and diesel cars (pre DPF, with a nice lining of soot in the exhaust and with DPFs) and in perhaps 350,000 miles over that 30 odd years, aside from one exhaust for the Figaro, I’ve never replaced any exhaust components, even on cars that I’ve run for longer than 10 years. -
11 plate Suzuki Alto 25 Apr 2023 (Forum)
A motoring miracle of sorts My old mate who is a mechanic (senior technician) at a Nissan dealers told me about a car they had in yesterday. A Suzuki Alto 96k miles on a 11 plate Yesterday was the first time in its life it had been serviced including its first oil change. To his amazement the engine was fine before the change and while the oil in his words was ‘darker than hell’ there appeared no excessive engine wear. -
Tiny turbo pops! 8 Sep 2022 (Forum)
We’ve heard loads of cases of Fords now infamous Ecoboost 1.0 motors going pop early doors and many a tale of woe regarding Renault/Nissan’s 1.2 TCe engines failing catastrophically. I’ve just had a friends 2015 Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 Turbo with 35,000 miles up suffer engine failure. The wee car has been neglected, she just looked confused when I asked when it was last serviced. -

Dacia Spring - What is going on with Dacia and safety?! 17 Apr 2022 (Forum)
Renault and Nissan seem to hit modern safety targets relatively high and constant, not so with Dacia. I was reading a thread here about the Jogger and the Spring; both sound like interesting cars, although for different usage, so I had a look at their safety record, and it seems something is going amiss with this brand. -
Honda CR-V - Honda CR-V 25 May 2019 (Forum)
Sold our Nissan Qashqai+2 and looking at other cars. I never liked the Qashqai, its build quality was pretty poor. The petrol 1.6 engine in it is seriously underpowered. I need a car that can seat 5 people (2 adults and 3 kids, out of which 2 are in car seats). -
Small car with a big boot 15 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Not sure what your budget is, but one of the small estates like the SEAT Leon ST or the Skoda Fabia could be worth a look. Or the Nissan Note - this passed our 'holiday abroad hire car test' in that we could get two large and two small cases in the square, deep boot. The newer Note seems to have shrunk (maybe so as not to compete head-on with the Juke): the one I'm thinking of was the old shape. -
Car hunting nightmare 4 Feb 2016 (Forum)
The brands I am mostly looking at (unless anyone says avoid): Citroen Fiat Ford Nissan Renault Suzuki Vauxhall Volvo Not sure if I am ranting or asking for help on suggestions. -
Vauxhall Vivaro - Watch your mirrors 18 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Spotted blue lights in my mirror; all traffic in Lane 3 slotting neatly into Lane 2 to let the two police cars through (one black and unmarked, the other a dog patrol in a Volvo). I moved over too. But in front of me was a black 12-reg Vivaro (might have been a Renault or Nissan I suppose) and the police sat on its tail for a mile or so, sirens and blue lights going: did the driver give way? Did he even notice? No, steady 50mph in Lane 3. Unobservant? Driving WDC&A? Stubborn? -
Car left in company car park 30 Jul 2014 (Forum)
There is an area reserved for parking, with each space marked with an indication of the owner. Parking is difficult, and we often park two cars deep, nose to tail. This morning there was a Nissan Micra in one of our spaces, causing huge disruption as it effectively fills three spaces. Normally we move our cars as and when one of use arrives or leaves, but this car is immobile. It has appeared before, before we arrive, and is still there when we leave. -
Honda Civic - Any thoughts on these auto hatches? 23 May 2013 (Forum)
09/10 Honda Civic 1.8 (not the I-shift) 09/10 Mazda 3 2.0 TS2 09/10 Renault Megane 2.0 CVT (like the look of the coupe) The Megane comes in at the bottom end of the budget but the other 2 will probably hold their value more when it comes to selling, the Renault / Nissan CVT seems quite reliable but is it any good to drive? -
Buying a new(ish) small car... advice needed 10 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I've always had old bangers and I'm sick of paying for garage bills. I've been to a dealership this afternoon to look at Nissan Micras, but the salesman is not the best person for impartial car buying advice! I don't know whether to got for a one year old car, still in warranty, or pay less and got for a 2009ish car. Additionally, I've been thinking Micra but then I've read a lot on here about Kia Picantos and Toyota Yaris. -
Humph's new motor.... 3 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Anyway, I looked at car allowances, mileage allowances and so on and it all gets a bit marginal because I will still do a substantial mileage. Bottom line is ( see, I'm getting back into corporate speak already ) I've got a Nissan Qashqai Tekna 4x4 2.0 dci auto. Black with black leather and a panoramic roof. Stonking motor. Nippy, comfy, bit girly, but hey.....the Bluetooth is pretty cool. Chuffederooney.... Report in due course.... :-) -

Nissan Primera GT Seat Ibiza, Leon or Toledo (Diesel) pug 306 d turbo Now any ideas or comments to confuse me more most welcolme. Thank you Edited the thread title to give it some meaning. "Confusion sollution please" means nothing to any of us - you need people to want to read your threads. -
Renault Megane III (2008 - ) - No 2.0 diesel option 2 Mar 2009 (Forum)
We had the former in a Megane 2 and didn't rate the engine very highly and the 1.9 F9Q is getting a bit long in the tooth now. What we really want is the super new Nissan/Renault designed 2.0 engine but it's not available yet it was in the old Megane. Otherwise we were quite impressed, it's much better assembled then the Megane 2 although they haven't bothered to move the START button over for RHD. -
Secondhand car for driving instruction 21 Apr 2008 (Forum)
At this price range would have to be an early one. 2) Toyota Yaris 1.0. A well thought of car, but the eccentric instrumentation may be a barrier. 3) Nissan Almera 1.5. The budget should just stretch to one of the facelift 2003 model year cars. Dull but potentially hassle free; I am discounting the diesel because IMHO common rail is more trouble than it's worth, and I would expect the 1.5 to manage low 40's in the MPG stakes...
