Imobilisers - Can the common car thief.. 29 May 2004 (Forum)
Hello, today i saw an Audi TT (nearly new conv) park near our home and then pick up a thug from half way up the road and drive away. The idiot driving was/appeared to be about 18? Since around 1998 it has been mandatory to fit immobilisers in all new cars sold in the uk. -
Estates: SAAB or Merc? 30 Jan 2003 (Forum)
From a depreciation and servicing/repair costs point of view, which is better for me, a 7 seater 1997 or 1998 E Class auto 300 TD/240 with 90 to 95,000 on the clock (£13,500 to £14,000) or SAAB 95 2.3 Aero or SE from 2000 with 40000 to 50000 on the clock (£14,000 to £14,500). Audi A6 is not an option in my book! Thanks for your replies -
Thrashed from cold 15 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Every evening when I leave work, the drill is the same. 2 minutes wait (maximum) to get onto the main road, 400 yards and a roundabout, then down a slip road onto a very busy dual carriageway where the traffic flow is around 80 mph. So to avoid being rear ended, I'm running my Audi straight up to 80 (approx 3750 rpm) with the engine almost stone cold. I can't help thinking this is bad for it - can anyone reassure me? (Or otherwise.) Richard Hall http://bangernomics.tripod.com -
5 series or A6 2 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I am hoping to buy either a BMW 5 series or an Audi A6 up to four years old with around 60,000 miles, or thereabout. I don't do a lot of miles (around 10,000 a year), hence I think I will be quite satisfied with petrol engined cars, ie. 520/523 and 1.8T respectively. -
Why buy the A4TDI 130 bhp rather than the 100 bhp 15 Oct 2001 (Forum)
having had 3 Audi cars (2- 80's and 1 A4) I am thinking of buying a new A4 TDI, can anyone tell me why I should be paying £1200 more to aquire a 130 bhp version rather than order the 100 bhp one? I do not feel that a couple of seconds extra to get to 62mph is worth £1200 plus paying for the extra insurance group. -
Vauxhall/Audi/Seat - Changing my 2 cars 27 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Hello All, I changed my work car, a 2007 Corsa D 1.3CDTI Sxi 95hp for a Seat Toledo 1.6 TDI SE last September and next week am changing my 2013 Audi Q3 2.0TDI SE for a 2015 Audi A4 1.8 TFSI 170ps Se Technik. I thought I would give you a review of how these cars have performed sao far. 1) Corsa 1.3 CDTI I bought this car from a Vauxhall dealer in 2011 with 38K on the clock. -
Please Help - Audi Coolant Pressure 8 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I have had a nightmare with my Audi A6 1.9 tdi. Please can someone shed some light where the mechanics cant seem to: The car has always been reliable until recently the water thermostat clip disappeared, the t-stat fell out allowing the water to drain out instantly the warning light came on and I managed to pull over before the car got to the red line, probably got to about 120c. -
Honda Civic - 1.0 engine recalls for 10th gen model 13 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Honda reliability’s bit of a myth in my view as I’ve had a few problems with this car during four years’ ownership, Wife’s Audi A1 has been far more reliable and definitely better built imho. -
Honda Civic Parts Delays - Honda 19 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Found out today it’s still not available even though they’ve had the car for two more days so no air con for this year’s holiday when we hit the M6 this weekend. Our Audi air con condenser problem was diagnosed, part ordered, received and fitted all on the same day last month under warranty. Quite like the Civic but I won’t be ordering one myself based on this debacle. -
Mercedes-Benz E250 CDI 5 dr - What do most people buy after an E-Class estate? 26 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Hello, I'm interested to learn what drivers on here move on to after having owned an E Class Mercedes Estate? Is it another Estate or SUV? Is it an Audi, BMW, Land Rover/Range Rover (which model?) or something completely different like a Bentley or a Tesla? I would be very interested to know as it may well influence my next purchase. Thanks Bazomis -

Workhorse saloon under 2.5k? 30 Jul 2017 (Forum)
My friend is looking to change his 2000 VW Passat, he's been really happy with the car but the car is reaching it's end of life and now would like to try some other model. He likes the shape of Audi A4, Mazda 3 and 6 but is not sure of how reliable or trustworthy would these make. He'll mainly use the car for work, needs it to be saloon style for the boot space, he's thinking diesel for fuel economy and idealy not less reliable or more expensive at maintaining/parts than his previous Passat What do you guys think? -
VW Touareg - 2012 diesel Touareg should I worry? 26 Apr 2017 (Forum)
I'm ready to buy a replacemt car and whilst my 2004 audi would likely qualify for the scrappage scheme I am not buying a new car so won't benefit. My concern is will my propsed 2011/12 Touareg shed its vaule soon based on the new hatred of diesels? looking to spend 13k ish and would be gutted to lose 40% in a year as I've read in press. -
F20 2016 BMW 1 Series - LED Rear Indicators 15 Nov 2016 (Forum)
I'm a little annoyed at BMW, the front of the vehicle has LED indicators and headlights and the tail bars are LED but the rear indicators are not. Why BMW has done this I don't know. Their competitors (Audi A3 / Merc A Class) all have rear LED indicators! Why not BMW, it's not even an option! Is there a simple and cost effective was around it? Cheers, Lee. -
Research on 'My' new car ownership sites 4 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Hi All, I am undertaking a bit of research for a project I'm working on around the various car brands ownership portals - MyFord, Your Audi, MyHyundai, You+ Nissan etc. Those of you that have purchased a new car could you spare a minute to let me know: 1. Where you aware of this site when you bought the car? 2. -
Any - Electrical faults in cars rise sharply in 5 years 18 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Renault lived up to the bar-room wisdom that 'French cars are terrible for electrics' by being the least reliable manufacturer in terms of electrical problems. However, Citroens proved more reliable than teutonic titans Audi, Mercedes and Porsche, and was as reliable as BMW. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/10699415/Complex-car-electronics-spark-rise-in-breakdowns.html -
legality of 'chipping' an engine 1 Dec 2013 (Forum)
So why does not 'chipping' an engine fall into the same category, because I cannot believe that this action does not affect the emissions? Maybe this is considered a grey area? BTW, my Audi is chipped and my insurance company is happy to cover it for a small extra premium. I suppose you could consider ANY modification to a car that could affect the emissions is illegal, eg wider tyres, different exhaust, air cleaner etc, No doubt someone on this forum will put me right! -
Cars with best heaters for cold oldies? 18 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Any thoughts from those familiar with many different models? I've always found Fords with small engines warm up in no time. My 2.8 Audi is useless at warming the cabin until at least 5 miles. Car testers provide data on all sorts of things but never how quickly the heater works. Why not? This would be a major consideration for me with my next car.
