  As you know I am hoping to get another van in the near future. If I do get the one I'm after, what would be the going rate for my old Trafic? Ignore what I paid for it, it is a 1996 N 2.1 Diesel. at 185K. It will have a full MOT but no tax to speak of (poss a month).

  It's 3.5t on the log book but the former owners said it's more like 4.3t fully loaded with travel gear. It's just passed its MOT with  2 advisories , including "Suspension bellows damaged but not to excess Rear and centre axle suspension airbags cracking (5.3.5 (b) (i))" The last MOT also said "Rear Suspension bellows damaged but not to excess 2nd and 3rd axle o/s and n/s deteriorated (5.3.5 (b) (i))".

Can someone please explain to me why it is necessary to rev a diesel engine from idle right up to the governor, hold it for a second and let it fall again, and do this 5 or 6 times to measure exhaust smoke?

  Just read this week's Honest John column in the Telegraph: http://tinyurl.com/33urse == My wife's 2002 Jaguar X-type went for a service and MoT recently. All was in good order, but an advisory notice was issued to tell us the "rear number plate might fail the next MoT". How can this be? D.B., Norwich # Number plates delaminate. Once the numbers start to become obscured, it's an MoT failure. == Just wanted to point out another reason the advisory might have been issued is due to new MOT regulations for registration plates which came in force 1st October 2007.

  Citroen Berlingo 19 plate - 4 years old, full main dealer service history and fresh MOT in March 23, 92,000 miles, 1.5 diesel engine failed on motorway and needs replacing (AA diagnosis). Any idea what the common issue is with these engines? It is my neighbours van and I haven’t had chance to speak with him directly (I got the info from his wife) as to the full diagnosis.
