  • Vauxhall Astra H estate (2004 - 2009) - 08 1.7 Tow bar 11 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I have an 08 astra estate, 17cdti diesel and i want to fit an additional charging socket for towing the caravan. So the question is, do you know which is the charging light wire coming from the alternator, to which to conect the wire to the split charging relay for the battery/fridge in the caravan?
  • tow bar removal - golf mk3 7 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I have a tow bar fitted to my golf mk 3 and i want it gone. It has two plugs on it. I think it is bolted on to the chassis not welded. The only thing i am unsure about is the electrical side of removing it. Can i just cut the wire?
  • Tow bar electrics Peugeot 407 10 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Has anyone had a towbar fitted by a Peugeot dealer? I have had twin sockets fitted for Caravan towing but there is no feed for the fridge ( should only be live when engine runs due to high current flow) have contacted dealer where fitted and they say they dont normally connect the fridge supply, just permanent power for the van when static.

  • Towing 23 Feb 2004 (Forum)
This compares with 29MPG (and middle fifties MPH) that I normally get on this frequently done run, so was not too bad. Made me think though, how far have other backroomers towed another car on a flexible rope (not a towing rod), and what was the experience like?
  • Towed for being parked under a tree 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
For one reason and another, the insurance certificate was still not available by the time I went on holiday a fortnight ago, so I could not renew the tax disc - which had expired at the end of June. The car is parked on the street. Upon returning home, no car. It had been towed away as it was 'abandoned'. The car was apparently inspected by a 'senior traffic warden' who decided that the car looked as though it had not moved for a long time (in fact, only 3 days). A large yellow notice was slapped on, requiring removal within 24 hours, and it was then towed.
  • Ford Tourneo Connect - Abysmal Towing Weights 4 May 2016 (Forum)
Can anyone explain why Ford's quote such very, very low towing weight limits for both the Tourneo Connect and Grand? They appear to vary between 750kg and 1200kg when an average loaded caravan weighs circa 1500kg. These are van based cars and as such are surely built very strongly and appear to use powertrains that handle much higher weights in other Ford cars.
  • Jeep Cherokee (1993 - 2001) - Towing problem 9 Feb 2010 (Forum)
My jeep cherokee 2.5 TD 2000 got great pulling power when towing. i have a 8metre long caravan twin axle Bailey Ranger. The problem i experience is i seem to get an unsteady feeling when doing upto 60mph the car and caravan appear to rock or bounce which is a bit worrying.
  • 1.6 TDI - 2013 Seat Toledo towbar 6 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Hello, I'm in the process of trying to decide where to get a tow bar fitted. I will be pulling a trailer tent, probably unbraked and know very little about towing. I spoke to the Seat dealer who quoted me 996.00 to have a tow bar fitted. There seems to be a few national firms who would do it for around 450, which is huge difference.
  • Towball to tow hitch 20 May 2005 (Forum)
I have recently fitted a towbar to my car so that I can pull my caravan and on stock car days a car transporter trailer. I have just bought an old trailer this week which rattled badly when towed. I put this rattle down to the fact that the trailer is well balanced and offers no loading on the car when empty. Then a thought struck me-could the hitch be an old 2" cup rather than the later 50mm.
  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W210 (1995 - 2002) - 98 3.0TD Oil cooler & new fan for caravan towing? 30 May 2008 (Forum)
For about two years now I've been towing a large caravan (2-axle 1241 kg) with my 99 Audi A4 2.5TDi, with no real problems. Changed to a lovely 98 E-Class estate auto with a 3000TD engine, very well kept. Now I've been given some advice that Mercedes Auto trans. cars need to have an oil cooler for the gearbox fitted and an upgraded fan, maybe even a new radiator, in order to tow large caravans.

  • Any - Disabling parking sensors when towing 23 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I have various options: just pull the power on the parking sensors; fit a switch to the wiring in the boot; run wiring to a switch on the dashboard; fit some sort of relay between the parking sensors and towing electrics. The final solution is preferable but I'm not sure where to get one or how to wire it so that the sensors are disabled when a trailer with a simple trailer board is hooked up. Anyone have any ideas?
  • Range Rover Evoque SD4 - Fitting a Non OEM Tow Bar to Range Rover Evoque 14 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Could someone please throw some light on whether or not Land Rover reserve the right to void a customers warranty on a new vehicle if the customer buys and has fitted a Tow Bar from an NTTA authorised Centre. Land Rover say they will only approve their own branded versions but they are double the cost of the same Branded style (Westfalia or Witter) and their fitting charges are astronomical.
  • Merc E320 CDi - Water wetter or not? 8 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Regular readers (wonderful stuff All-Bran) will remember I tow a caravan with my car. When driving solo with it the coolant temp sits bang on 80 degrees, always has done. When towing the temperature rises to just under 90 degrees due to the extra load on the engine and transmission.
  • Why does the caravan club? use the 85% rule? 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Or do they assume that the average caravan owner not a competent driver? ducks Since they were advocating that one would require a Toyato Land Crusier, or similar to tow a 1800kg Hymer caravan, which actually only weighed some 1500 odd kg empty When if I recall correctly a Subaru Forrester will legally ( and i would have to presume safely) tow 2000kg Hey even the TDI Galaxy will legally tow 1600kg, so she should be fit for it.
  • Ford s-max - fitting of tow bar 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I'm considering buying a ford s-max, but need a tow bar. Would prefer a factory fitted one, however, my local dealer says he cannot source one, and that I will have to wait until the end of march before I can order one (and then a further 12 weeks while ford build the car??!!)
  • Towing a horse trailer - 4wd car ? 29 May 2005 (Forum)
Having promised daughter a pony next year (mad!), I'm thinking I may have to do some towing.... I can borrow a 4x4 and trailer for when the horse isn't liveried, but I'm thinking if I do want to move the pony (bear in mind a pony isn't the weight of a big horse) with trailer, would a good 4wd car do ?
  • CR-V Towing? 25 Jan 2005 (Forum)
My question is whether there is any difference between the UK and US CR-Vs? The UK models are specified at 600KG unbraked towing capacity, but up to 1500KG with trailer brakes. The USA brochures and websites for the CR-V however only give one figure: 1500 LBS. This would seem to equate to the 600KG unbraked limit but is it safe to pull up to 1500KG / 3000LBS on a US CR-V if the trailer is double axled with its own braking system?
