  After parking at work 40 mins later the car would not start and is completely dead, somewhat scuppering a trip North which is now underway on the train. I would be grateful if anyone could tell me whether this is likely to be an alternator or a battery issue or something more sinister?

  Can't see how the remote fob comes apart to change the battery. The fob is the oblong type with a black and red button, with a three pin socket in the side. There is a slot all the way round and it appears this levers off the two halves, but I don't want to use too much force in case something snaps.

  The trouble is I've searched everywhere and can't find it !!! I haven't got a 'dedicated key', either. When I disconnect the negative battery terminal the alarm starts sounding and I can only get it to stop by reconnecting the battery and turning the ignition on Anyone know how I can disable the alarm to carry out the repair or how long the alarm will sound after disconnecting the battery?

  Hi, I've got a problem with my Audi A3 1.8T - the battery has gone flat and I've traced it down to fuse 37 which is listed as 'engine timing'. Sure enough, remove this fuse and the drain stops but the engine wont start. Any ideas what on earth could cause this?

  Hi, my mates Vectra SRI 140ps, S reg, 84,000 miles has a stalling problem. It will jump start ok, battery is flat even though it is a new battery. After 1 minute of running on tick over or driving, all the dash lights come on very dimly, abs, airbag, engine management, the lot. Even the rev counter drops to zero even though the engine is still running.

  It tends to sit for a while between use, but I don't think waxy diesel is the issue. Even with a good battery, you can usually crank it on and off for a good few mins before it will go. Once running, its fine and does charge the battery. Often you will need to jump it as the battery will be flat before it starts.

  Yesterday one of the key fobs for my Vectra went dead. I don't think the battery has run out because it worked perfectly up until yesterday (what I mean is, usually you can tell if the battery is running out, you have to start pressing the buttons a bit harder and stand closer to the vehicle).

  I've had a long standing problem with my M reg Rav 4 - leave it standing for a week and the battery goes flat. This sometimes causes great confusion to the alarm/immobiliser which then requires resetting, generally by the AA. Having gone through the whole rigmarole once again, I still haven't identified the cause of the battery drain but I have needed to fit a new battery.

  After sitting for 2 weeks my 2002 Freelander TD4 would not start, (engine not cranking over), after getting Land Rover assistance to get me going using a booster pack I am told the battery is in good condition and there must be an intermittent fault draining it as this has happened once before (after sitting for 3 weeks and LR assistance man helped me out), therefore it is back at the main dealer whom did not find a fault before and hasn't seemed to have found one this time.

  As the remote has never worked since owning the car the last six years, I assume the battery has always been dead.  Does this sound like a simple battery problem? Is this something I can replace myself or best to take to the car dealer? If it is the battery, will the key need to be programmed?

  One for Elekie doc. Our old friends Kia is eating batteries... 2 in 2 years.  but they are only doing 2000 miles a year...8000 so far in 5 years. It is a non start stop type, ( checked) so alternative is a drain somewhere. Took battery off tonight and reading 5.5 volts after standing for 7 days. currently on a trickle charger for me to check, but will switch off before going to bed and check voltage in the morning.

  Hi All  My VW Golf (2004 MK5) wouldn't start on Monday despite being driven (albeit briefly) the day before.  I assumed it had a flat battery as it had only been driven a few times over the previous 2 weeks on very short journeys so I charged the battery (as a jump start didn't work).   Car starts fine now BUT the wipers, horn, indicators and main beam do not work.

  I'm having charging problems with my CX_5 diesel, battery volts should be showing i believe around 12.6 volts when stood overnight, but i have never seen that, currently its showing around 12.4 volts.   But on two occasions the volts have been down to 12.1 volts, shortly afterwards the car failed to turn over.
