Spacious family car to seat 5 circa £9 - £10k (used) 31 Jan 2013 (Forum)
We had a Verso for a little while, but it went back due to an underlying damp issue - we also found it to be a little too bumpy over some surfaces and the Diesel that we tested was noisy. Other cars on our radar are the VW Touran, though I don't think we would get much use out of the rear two seats and the Merc B Class (The rear space might just about suffice) Does anybody have any observations or suggestions? -
What car for a long road trip across Europe... 3 Jan 2013 (Forum)
It's a total of 1600 miles each way and I need to buy a decent car that will be great/epic on the fuel consumption, be comfortable and won't break down leaving me stranded out in the middle of no-where. I know no-one can guarrantee that last one but hey, at least a good chance of it not going wrong. I have a maximum of budget of £1000, maybe a tad more if a great car pops up. -
Very Cheap small 4x4 16 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I am looking at three possibles for a cheap 4x4 Landrover Freelander XEDi 5 door Subaru Legacy 2.0 or 2.5 estate Jeep Cherokee 4.0 or 2.5TD I know I can find a good one of any of these for under £1500. I will only be doing around 5k miles a year so fuel not a problem. What I know so far.. Freelander- The old diesel engine seems to have a good reputation of maintained and they dont seem to suffer from rust but dont drive like a car Legacy-Owners seem to have great things to say about these cars but some also say that fixing problems can be expensive Cherokee-far more agricultural than the other two but highly regarded by owners if not car reviewers ! -
Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 00 2.5 immobiliser problems 13 Nov 2011 (Forum)
hi all i have a 2.5 turbo diesel that i am unable to start. i have checked on the forum and have seen the issues with regards to the heater panel. when checking mine it indeed does look like it has melted however when leavingt he panel off and trying to start the car it will not start. i am able to open the doors with my fob and when trying to start the car teh alram set light goes out. the car will then turn over and try to start however some times the fuel and heater guage etc will show up and then just go to as if not in use. the alarm set light will then come on and will flash. when the heater control panel is attached the alarm set light will not go out at all and after 3 or 4 failed attempts to start the car it will not turn oer at all. -

Ford Escort c.95 - Engine runs from cold, then soon stops. 17 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Hello - this problem concerns a Ford 1.8 diesel turbo-intercooled engine, but whilst I'm posting under the Escort heading, it's actually fitted as OEM equipment to an agricultural vehicle; however as far as I can tell the installation closely matches a typical car job ( the only difference is that there is no ECU). -
BMW 5-Series E39 530d - BMW e39 3.0d Cold Start 21 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I've been having some problems with my 530d, intermittently not starting. All fuel pumps checked OK and 1 diesel injector replaced, rest all ok. That has improved things but still having problems start of day when very cold, so now figure that some of the existing problem might be glow plugs. -
Rover 75 2.0 CDT servicing 26 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I've now done close to 24,000 miles and according to the service interval display ( which also takes driving style i.e. fuel consumption into account) it's soon due for an 'inspection'. This is more or less in line with the handbook which, If I read the correctly, specifies oil changes every 30,000 miles and 'inspections' every other 15,000 miles. -

Toyota Yaris II/Vitz (2006 - ) - 07 - ecu light on again, despite 3 new cam sensors 16 Oct 2007 (Forum)
We bought the wife, who is a driving instructor a brand new Yaris diesel 4 months ago.Within a week the engine management light showed up.We have now had 3 cam sensors fitted, including we were told by Toyota 'a different version' just last week. Now the light is on again. The dealer is getting another one in,but the wife has now threatened to leave the keys there if it is not repaired this time and a full refund of the car value.I believe we are entitled to this,as the fault has been on the car since new and the dealer has not sorted it.Everytime the car goes into be fixed, the wife looses revenue and clients and cost money in fuel ( 40 mile round trip). What is the next step to take.We don't really want to get rid of the car,as it is a nice sensible learning car,we just need to know how we can resolve the issue, because I don't believe fitting sensor no 4 is the answer. -
406 2.2 HDI 136BHP better than 110? 4 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have a 51 plate 2.2 with 39k on it. Done over 10k in the last 8 months, mostly mway, use millers diesel additive, good fuel & bounce it off the rev limiter once a week. It has most certainly enjoyed the attention of an italian tune-up. Before this I had a 110HDI model. Now then. I reckon that this 2.2 has little, if any, more power than the 110, applies its power higher up the rev range & isn't as refined. -

This is for a diesel CR-V - do all manuals now include the minimum information in the maximum number of pages, or is it just Honda? -
Which Estate? 16 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Me thinks I need an estate but which one? My criteria is as follows: 1.I only drive about 11K a year so I believe that may rule out diesels as being a cost effective propsosal so petrol only? 2.Speed is not a concern of mine so under 2 litre will suffice. 3.Budget of up to 13K. 4.Car can be up to 3 years old. 5.Must be as cost effective as possible i.e when considering depreciation, maintenance, fuel and insurance. -
Car ideas? Family. Low annual mileage with long tr 6 Apr 2022 (Forum)
Must be getting old as I've been wondering about an estate car or even MPV, maybe. No diesels. Don't like the smell, or the fuel price, and don't do enough miles to care about mpg. Also doubt a diesel will have much resale value 4 years from now, as EV take-up is gaining pace. Plan is to get something petrol or hybrid that will be fairly low hassle/maintenance for the next 3-4 years, then I'll probably go EV (new) at that point. -
Peugeot 106 1.5d 1995 - Peugeot 106 1.5d 1995 starts, runs but cuts out? 12 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Engine has always had synthetic oil, serviced on the dot and prior to this has been perfect. Oh we had a professionally reconditioned diesel pump when we first bought it so not that. I think there is a fuel pump in the tank from what I have read but don't know much about that, has never been done while we have had it. But can see bubbles on the clear pipe coming out of the diesel pump. -

Uncategorised Vehicles in UK Law 13 Apr 2017 (Forum)
They're not a bad option, but I don't know if I'd get back home if the weather went bad while I was at work A bit of background: I have a diesel guzzling Ford Mondeo MK3 Estate that I need to keep because it has enough space for my infant twins. This is a serious drain in insurance and fuel costs. It costs £60 a week in diesel, so if I can find alternative transport for less, that would be ideal. -
Ford Focus Ghia 2002 - 1.8 tdci - Flashing Glow PluG Light 17 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Friday i took it back to the dealer to be sorted. They have said 'oh it was just the turbos were blocked so have put a diesel engine cleaner in the fuel and it has sorted it'. From reading the posts on here i doubt this would solve the issue or could it be as simple as this? I am due to pick the car up again tomorrow. -
Car for commuting 13 Jan 2012 (Forum)
One final point is I have to tow a light dinghy sometimes which is why I want to stay with diesel rather than petrol. Thanks in advance!
