Mitsubishi Outlander - VAG 2.0 engined outlander losing power 4 Sep 2015 (Forum)
The engine is the 2.0 VAG diesel, the car is on an 09 plate. Any thoughts on what this might have been? (Buying diesel in rural France for 1.04 Euro (about 80p) was like going back to the 90s!) -
Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - 96 1.5d Flat Start 14 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I have also checked the temperature sensor which the post heat timer works off and this gives no resistance reading when cold but when hot I get a reading although can't remember exactly what so I am guessing this is also working fine. I'm not too familiar with diesel engines and fueling but I take it the white smoke is down to unburnt diesel getting into exhaust manifold and then being ignited there? I'm now stuck for suggestions so all help welcome. Moved into its own standalone post - The original post can be found below http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm? -
Advice on which car to buy. 27 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I have my eye on a few cars - BMW 330D, Jaguar X-Type 2.0D, Vauxhall Vectra SRi CDTi 150, and a few others. I need a diesel, as I do the miles. Going off what I currently get on LPG and with the price of LPG, I need around 41MPG average from my next car. So a diesel is the right option. Styling is something I do take into consideration. -
All - 4 banger vs 6 pot. challenge 23 Jun 2011 (Forum)
The 4 cylinder engine is assumed not to have balance shafts. We modelled two engines: gasoline and diesel. Gas engine: Compression ratio=10, bore=stroke=3.25" (86mm) 2.0litre I4 vs 3.0l I6 Diesel engine: Compression ratio =16, bore =8.25", stroke =3.75" (82mm*95mm) Torque demand: 30 lbf.ft (40nm) per cylinder 120lbf.ft for the 4 banger, and 180lbf.ft for the 6 pot. -

Ford Fusion 1.4 TDCi (2004) - Fusion 1.4TDCi injector seals leaking after repair 13 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Dear All, I have a 2004 Ford Fusion 1.4TDCi. I had a leak from the rocker cover gasket for a while which turned out to be a leaking fuel injector, when I took it to the garage they pointed out the "ticking" noise of the leaking injector. I thought it was oil initially but turned out to be diesel. It was actually leaking whilst under warranty but the local Ford garage informed me that "Gaskets were not covered", as I thought I had a rocker cover gasket leak. -

Never meet your heroes 19 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I have always coveted the E39 BMW Touring. Never could quite justify the cost but for various reasons including model replacement, fuel prices and so on they are starting to look reasonable at least on purchase price, if less so on running costs. Anyway, more on a whim than anything I went to see a couple at the weekend. One had the 2.2 petrol engine ( badged 520 ) with a manual box and the other was the 3.0 auto diesel. -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 2003 Hdi 90 hp - engine chugging 16 Feb 2008 (Forum)
It also seems to be underpowered but we put this down to emissions & Peugeot cutting back on the power to get it into the lower diesel taxation band. The car has been with AP Diesel specialist for a few days & they have checked everything on the injection side, they have put 2 new valves in the injector pump & tried another set of injectors in it but could not find anything wrong in their tests & gave the fuel side an all clear, they suggested that it might be clutch or transmission. -
Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 06 1.8TDCi - MPG getting worse 26 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Also it doesn't seem quite as nippy as before. I've switched over to use Shell and BP premium diesel fuels for the last couple of months hoping that it might help clean any unwanted deposits, but it hasn't seemed to make any difference. It's still in warranty and I'm thinking about taking it to a dealer to get them to look at it, but as it's not actually broken down and the problems are fairly subtle, I don't have much confidence they'll be able to do anything about it. -

Thoughts on driving in France 25 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Travel at 90-95mph and be overtaken by an equally efficient train on an adjacent track. Yes, there are tolls but the fuel is cheaper?a lot cheaper for a diesel driver. (Why is it that the rest of Europe pretty much unanimously agrees that diesel should be cheaper than petrol but we seem to think it dirty and worthy of additional taxes?) -
MPG wanted for 4-6k. 29 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Preferably, in order to pay off some student debt, i would like to retain some cash out of the car - thus paying 4000 to 4500 for something else. I've been looking at Vectras and Astra diesels, ex fleet T/V/W plate with 100000 miles plus at this money, but feel loathed to spend money on a car with that mileage on the clock. Opinions please?? I've also have looked at Rover 200/400 diesels with less mileage. -
A4 down the M4 19 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Pros Build quality - both perceived (interior surfaces) and real (thud of doors) Sports seats - perhaps the best I've tried Refinement - a touchy subject with diesels, but this one was very smooth once moving. Not sure how much of this was due to the transmission. However, you could still tell it was a diesel at idle. Steering wheel transmission controls - change gear like Schumacher. -
audi A3 2.0 TDI 2015 184 - Audi 2.0 TDI 184 H.G issue? 2015 4 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Ebay sell new ones, but without the cap? MPG has dropped slightly of late, i thought the fuel was watered down! at least 5MPG less , on average! Had the 'top op oil' light on , the other week! Otherwise car is solid! 87k, recent cambelt and WP, full history, i changed and flushed the oil, last year, never thrashed, never overheated, i use mainly for motorway and A roads, i occasionally add fuel additive, every other tankful. -
Peugeot 106 1.5d 95' TUD5 Rev Hunts, slower starting, performance down Timing? 17 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Morning all. Posted the other week re air / fuel leak causing cut out. Turned out to be leaky fuel filter/pipe. Now fixed. Thanks to all helping on that one. Now fixed but since this the engine is slower to start (still less than 1.5 seconds but used to be split second) and sometimes the rev's hunt up and down. -
VW Passat TDI 2001 - Starting Problem 25 Nov 2015 (Forum)
we left it for 5 mins then turned off the engine, tried to start it again but same problem, more easy start and it fired up. The mech gave me a report for my garage which said "diesel fuel possibly being pushed back from the injectors.".?? the car has now been in the garage since the 23/7/07,the mech said he has done a EMU check and it showed no problem ,the fuel pump is okay but the starting problem remains the same.. -
Seat/Audi/Skoda. - Advice, what do you think is best? 11 Feb 2012 (Forum)
So I was wondering what you would do in this situation? Hold on or trade in? As a side note I am curently only getting 43mpg and my fuel bill is rising by the month (as are most) I pay £180pm in fuel alone so my next car would have to be more economical As for what car I am lookikng at Seat Exeo, Skoda Superb, Or even an Audi A3 sportsback petrol or diesel not really that bothered and it must be no more than 4 yrs old.
