Fitting autobox cooler to Mazda6 23 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I intend towing a caravan with my Mazda6 estate 2.0i auto (it is the earlier 4 speed) I understand I need to fit a fluid cooler to the gearbox - I cannot see one in the engine bay I only assume it has the standard bottom of the radiator job. -
Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 95 1.9td misbehaving speedo, rev counter and light 8 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Have just bought a clean one with FSH to tow my caravan.(3 months dealer warranty.}3 glitches have appeared,As soon as the wheels start turning the speedo climbs rapidly from 0 to 50 and the needle stays there until the car actually stops,at which point it falls slowly back to 0.When the engine is fired up from cold the rev counter registers the revs correctly, but after about five minutes the needle fluctuates wildly and then dies. And 3rdly after about 20 miles an orange warning light comes on.it is directly above the red Handbrake On light. -
Recommendation for working vehicle? 23 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I would like suggestions for [cheap £1-2k] alternatives. I am currently considering a transit as the most likely, followed by a 4x4 or other tow car + trailer. A 4x4 would help in getting up/ down the steep hill in poor weather but is likely to be more expensive to buy and run than a transit or other car. All comments or suggestions welcome please! -
No unsurance, No license = no car 4 Nov 2005 (Forum)
The move aims to rid the streets of dangerous vehicles and stop people driving illegally. POLICE today vowed to tow cars away if drivers are stopped and found to have no valid licence or insurance. It comes after new legislation was introduced to seize vehicles from the drivers on the road if they admitted not having insurance or a licence. -
Portsmouth to Whitstable, which route? 4 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Asking for a route that avoids the M25, takes me along the coast to Brighton & Lewes, then follow the A roads through Heathfield, Cranbrook and on up to Whitstable. Both routes are the same distance, and should take 3hrs and 3.5hrs respectively (I will be towing a small boat so speed is reduced). All other things being equal the motorway route would be my choice, easier to navigate and drive, but the timing means I?ll hit the M25 in rush hour. The other route doesn? -
Alfa 156 2.0 23 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Only happened when he pressed on the gas, dissapeared off throttle, when he pulled in to check what the problem was it cut out and would not turn over. Tow truck guy had a jump start and it turned over and idled but the problem still existed when throttle was pressed. He had the car serviced last week and filled with Mobil synth. Car has 73,000 on it, timing belts and pulleys at 60,000. -
94 Camry V6 overheating 6 Jun 2004 (Forum)
No steam or other smoke, coolant remains in overflow tank did not have any oil in them and no mayonnaise on filler cap or stick. Got the car towed to a Toyota dealer in Slough and will find out on Friday what the problem is. If its not too bad and driveable I will take it to a Toyota specialist nearby but am I on the right path ? -
Anti theft - US approach is cheap 14 Mar 2003 (Forum)
In the USA a cheap anti theft device that seems to solve most situations of vehicle loss (unless it is towed away). It is described as "Armored steel Hood lock with ignition immobilizer" for example: from Google search with "armoured steel hook lock" http://jcwhitney.com/product.jhtml?CATID=4708&BQ=jcw2 At $33 plus pp seems a good buy They seem very popular and seem to address the basic requirement. -
Shogun Sport 2.5td 22 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Also, has anyone driven the 3.0 V6 Petrol Is that ok ? As far as I can see the Shogun Sport only comes with those tow engines, although I was dealing wiht a total dipstick at the garage who may well have been on his first day. The Shogun (not sport) is a different, and somewhat more old-fashioned body shell, I think. -
Alfa 156 Selespeed Gearloss 21 Mar 2002 (Forum)
The loss of gears occurs at any time, warm or cold, stationary, pulling away or cruising I calculate the dealer (under warranty) has received the car around 15 times - 6 of which were tow ins. I have had a new gearbox, lower ECU, higher ECU, gear box oil pump, numerous diagnostics. Apart from training the children to operate the hazard warning lights has anybody had and cured a similar problem. -
Peugeot 406 2.1 TD, engine cutting out. 28 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Yesterday the engine stopped again for a second and a further twice all within the space of half a mile, but was then O K for ten miles home. The problem is I am due to go to Spain on Sunday 3 April, towing a caravan, for six weeks and I am worried about what may happen. My garage suggested a new fuel filter and this has been done, even though accordind toinvoices the filter had only been in use since 37,000. -
Rover quest- day 2 23 Nov 2001 (Forum)
) - seems worth a look at £1999.( Year- 1996) . described as excellent condition. though not phoned/ checked mileage etc. yet. Just about within my budget too! However the presence of a tow bar might denote a 'worked to death case '! This area is rural so might have spent every wakening hour attached to a horse box! Whilst this is a departure from last nights modest inclinations. I'm really missing my previous( larger) car with good room for storage etc. - The bar would also be useful in fact. -
Cycle Carrying Idiots 16 Aug 2001 (Forum)
A few hefty fines would soon put paid to these stupid people. Cycle carriers should be banned unless fitted with a proper tow board with regulation number plate and lights attached to the outside of the cycles and fitted with a proper trailer electrical connection. -
