Peugeot 3008 - 3008 Petrol Auto 24 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Our local dealer could not find the petrol auto 3008 on his list. We test-drove the diesel, which I understand to be a semi-auto, and would prefer a full automatic if available. Is there any issue with availability or reliability of the 3008 petrol auto? I'd also welcome any feedback on the grip control option. Does this involve driving all year on mud/snow tyres? -
Volvo S80 - European Car Insurance for Switzerland 28 Jul 2011 (Forum)
On contacting my insurance company (HSBC) about whether I could travel into Switzerland I was told it was not covered by my insurance. Generally breakdown and health insurance policies seem to automatically include Switzerland since they have signed up to many of the principles without actually joining the EU. The small print of my policy lists all the other european countries but not Switzerland and the only advice I received from HSBC insurance was 'Sorry Switzerland is outside the terms and conditions of the policy'. -
Renault 21 Savanna - Cutting out 28 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Car starts well, drives 4 miles to the motor way well, goes for about 20 minutes on motorway well, then when I exit motorway and drive in lower revs, say, approaching traffic lights it wants to die. Sometimes it picks the revs up again automatically, other times it dies. When I try to restart it takes ages but eventually starts and I can drive it on. The car has just had a full service after which the problem started. Have tried differend plugs. -
Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 97 3.0 auto transmission problems 2 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Topped it up - the noise that used to be there on engaging drive had stopped, but still revs high, moved a touch (no more than before) and suddenly the steering went stiff, like the power steering has gone. Any ideas please? I guess the two things are connected (?) but it's the first automatic we've had and I don't know much about how they work. -
Corsa Jan 2007 - Vauxhall Corsa control unit problem 30 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Contacted local Vauxhall garage explained and they informed me it was a problem with my automatic gear box. The car has a manual gear box! I booked the car in and tried again to start the car, so took the car in. Phonecall from vauxhall: Investigated " F " display, carried out various tech test, various non present trouble codes stored but no communication with ecu. -
Peugeot 407 (2004 - ) - 05 2.0HDi - Slipping Clutch? 28 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Has anyone experienced the fault before and successfully had the clutch (or dual mass flywheel!) replaced at Peugeot's expense? I understand that under 20K miles it's automatic that the clutch is replaced - but above 20K - who knows! All comments are really appreciated. Kind Regards Hugh {moves across to Technical Matters} -
BMW 3-Series E36 conv (1994 - 2000) - 99 2.0 Convertible roof service 31 Dec 2009 (Forum)
independent specialists that deal with convertible tops? Mine could do with the draw strings adjusting or replacing as whilst the automatic top works fine enough, the plastic window doesn't fold neatly, and the roof as a whole needs a helping hand along the way down. Folding back up again works fine. Have googled with no real luck in this country. -
BMW 5-Series E60 (2003 - 2009) - 06 2.0 MOT failed - do I have insurance? 13 Oct 2009 (Forum)
It's still under warranty but they don't have the parts in stock (at the main dealer) to do the repair. If I go past a police car with the automatic number plate recognition will this flag up that I do not have an MOT? No MOT means no insurance too right? So i'm now about to drive a car home with no insurance? Bit annoyed they've put me in this situation, the car feels fine to me? -
Missed service and broken gearbox 12 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi I just want to get your views I have a Seat Toledo, 55 plate, out of warrantee, with the DSG automatic box. I have just been told I need a new box, or at least it will need to be reconditioned, with a price of anything up to £3.5k. In doing some research I found out the Gearbox should have been services at 40000 miles. -
Ford Fusion (2002 - 2008) - 05 1.6 Air Conditioning 4 Jun 2009 (Forum)
When the air conditioning is switched on in an older version of a Fusion (2003) the engine cooling fan does not immediately switch on at any time of the year and run continuously until the air conditioning is switched off. The older Fusion engine cooling fan very rarely switches on automatically due to weather conditions when the air conditioning is switched off or is on. This is unlike a later version Fusion (2005) which has the engine cooling fan running continuously whenever the air conditioning is switched on and at any time of the year/weather condition. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.25 Transmission Fluid - stalling when cold 4 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Hi Have recently bought a P (96) plate fiesta 1.25 LX Automatic first question, does ne1 know where the transmission fluid go's? I have had a look in the book but it doesnt actually say which is always useful :) secondly - when the car first starts up in the morning, it stalls whenever it comes to a stop, the revs go to just below 1 and then it cuts out - after about 10 mins of driving it runs fine and it doesnt stall again for the rest of the day, just sort of kangaroo's a bit when slowing down anyone have any ideas as to what it could be? -
Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - 1997 1.6 Test for slipping torque converter please 14 Jan 2009 (Forum)
We have an Automatic Rover 400. Acceleration is pathetic and engine revs seem higher than we would expect for any given speed. Kickdown works. Putting your foot down increases the revs but negligible acceleration. -
Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - Buying advice - model? 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hello, I'm thinking of changing my vehicle for a petrol Vauxhall Zafira, I have up to £3k to spend and am after opinion on best combination of engine and gearbox for reliability. Don't mind manual or automatic. I do mostly town work but with the odd long journey. I'm a gigging musician and like the fact that the Zafira isn't that big on the outside but all the seats fold down to give me a big flat load area. -
Mercedes Benz C-Class W203 (2000 - 2007) - 04 2.0 Engine Management 21 Dec 2008 (Forum)
As i pulled over put the car in neutral and tried to switch the car off but instead the engine just went on full throttle and would not cut off with ignition it revved up for a few mins and then switched off by itself as it cooled down i tried starting it. it starts and runs but lacks pulling power in low gears. turbo is working ok have some doubts on flyby wire system worried about car going into in its automatic mode of revving to the max without pressing of the throttle pedal. would like to know if you can help. look forward to your replies. -
Offended Almera owner 16 Apr 2008 (Forum)
This disgraceful slur is described on the Autotrader review site as one of "Jeremy Clarkson's 48 best quotes." I thought a lot before buying my Almera. It's automatic, has a sun-roof, seats 5 and has a 6 CD player with decent speakers. In the colour I chose, it actually looks quite good. It may have a rather brittle ride but, as described above, it gave me good value for all I could afford at the time. -
Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 2001 2.0T PAS fluid requirements 7 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The PAS fluid on the Volvo could do with a top up and I have a 2 month old container of Halfords "Ford Automatic Transmission and Power Steering Fluid to Ford spec ESP-M2C-166H which I bought for the Mondeo and used about 200ml of. Can I use this stuff, or are these fluids really manufacturer specific? The Volvo's handbook is no help - it says use "genuine Volvo power steering fluid". -
Mercedes Benz E-Class W124 (1985 - 2000) - 92 2.3 auto erratic tickover 11 Mar 2008 (Forum)
1992, 2.3 automatic, 142,000 miles Normally runs very well but lately the idle tickover is a bit eratic and rough. It normally runs at about 750-800 revs and is very smooth. Now, it sometimes runs at 550 revs and seems to be nearly going to stall. -
Audi A3 + S3 (1996 - 2001) - To remap, or not to remap? 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Hi There, Just a quick question really. I have an Audi A3 1.8T (Automatic tranny 2000 - 53K) and am thinking about getting a remap of the ECU to increase it's power. I enjoy the car at the moment, but I thought a remap would put a bigger grin on my face. Don't get me wrong, i do not intend to thrash the car, never have, but simply want to have a little more 'go' from time to time. -
Opinions on Volvo C70 Convertible? 16 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Wife has decided she likes the look of the volvo convertible her colleague is selling at work. Car is a 2003 53 reg Volvo c70 convertible. 2.3 T5 turbo engine. Automatic gearbox. Silver body with black hood. Asking price is £8500. Mileage is 127k. She currently owns a polo tdi 1.9 sport on an 03 plate. The car is good, but she just fancies a change. Car will be used daily for a commute to work and back of approx 90 miles a day from west yorkshire to Manchester. -
Total loss - need advice 11 May 2007 (Forum)
Ideally, we'd like to replace this with a similar car. Having had a look on autotrader, we'd be looking to pay from around £4K for an automatic Focus with similar mileage. 1. Would you consider this a reasonable valuation? 2. I am planning to write to the insurers asking them to revise the valuation. Does anyone have a template letter I could use?
