  • Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 03 2.0 engine anti pollution system faulty ??? 7 Dec 2009 (Forum)
hi guys, please please can anyone help,, i have a peugeot 307 sw se 2.0 hdi.. some weeks back a engine warning light came on. its glows orange, and on the display screen it reads " engine anti pollution system faulty". plus on top of this, the fuel cunsumption has dropped drastically i mean on a full tank of diesel i am getting about 130 miles and then i am bone dry, time to refill. on inquiring at the main peugoet dealership they said that they needed the car to a full diagnostics and go from there, thus they did, they came back with. the serine fluid tank was empty, apperently this fluid is a additive, which is injected, into the tank every time you release the fuel filler cap,,, i had to go with what they said, they said apart from re-filling the serine fluid tank, it would also need what is called re-force generation, they said they have to do this to reset the allowance of fluid injected into the tank, all this work was done on friday 4th decembar 2009, and i am 200 quid ligther in my wallet.
  • Vauxhall Signum (2003 - ) - Signum rambles - The epilogue 12 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The Vauxhall was much quieter both in terms of engine and wind noise and had a lovely swell of torque which made it surprisingly diesel like to drive in the best sense. Never a keen revver though with a funny flat spot about 4.5k revs. Fuel consumption was good at around 37 mpg with my mainly long haul, fully laden usage and as mentioned elsewhere, when the fuel price differential was 10p a litre it worked out at the same pence per mile fuel cost as the Mondeo.
  • Focus TDDI Endura problem 29 Apr 2015 (Forum)
There is a knocking/tapping noise seemingly coming from the top left hand side of the engine accompanied by a fair bit of grey smoke, thinking this was a broken valve spring or a sticky valve i took the head off for inspection and cleaned everything and reseated valves while i was there, put it back together and the noise/smoke was still there,i changed an injector but still no joy,i noticed that the top of pistons 1-3+4 seemed to be normal(dry and usual discolouration) but the top of 3 seemed to be wet as if the fuel had not burnt properly, there is engine management on the car but it does not show there is a problem and the car starts a treat and the turbo seems to be ok,do these symptoms signal a fault in the fuel system and would this cause the knocking i describe??
  • Exeos Vs Skoda - Automatics CVT Vs DSG 19 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I have been looking at alternatives for a "nearly new" company car..  It needs to be a 2litre diesel with automatic gearbox,  a good reliable runner and reasonably fuel efficient. After visiting several dealers,  I'm coming down on either a Skoda Octavia with DSG or a Seat Exeo with their CVT transmission which fall neatly into my price range of around £16-£18k.
  • Nissan Micra - What car to buy? 27 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I haven't got a budget at present but I won't have a large amount to spend. Most important to me is fuel economy (I want a petrol and not diesel), safety and reliability. I live in Scotland so it also needs to be good in ice and snow and start first time before 6am when frosted up and I'm leaving for work!
  • Skoda Octavia VRS & MG ZT-T cdti - My lovely Skoda VRS vs ....an MG?! 7 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I was wondering what your views are regarding my possible intentions re: swapping my 1.8 20v Turbo petrol Skoda (love the car to bits but cost of fuel now becoming a problem) for a very late model diesel MG ZT-T 135+cdti? I should be able to afford a 'decent' one with reasonable mileage, etc (some for sale have been to the moon and back which I suppose is a good sign).
  • Another New Car Choice Query 25 Nov 2009 (Forum)
My wife is seeking a replacement for her Mondeo 2.0 Zetec, as it has done just over 125,000 and is starting to give niggly problems. However, she is also aware that the MPG of this car is not the best and the cost of fuel will continue to rise. She requires a 5 door vehicle as she takes her elderly mother out once a week who requires a wheelchair. She also commutes 30 miles to work each way on 4 days per week. Her annual mileage is about 14,000 so it is marginal for diesel.
  • Peugeot 309 (1986 - 1993) - 89 1.9 losing water/coolant 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hello. Bought my car(diesel) just over a year ago - have done 200 thousand miles last year (total mileage now about 180), changed exhaust, alternator, fuel pump, just passed my MOT & paid new tax. Only issues I've really had are stupidly put in petrol late one night & drove it all the way home - got it cleaned out but since then it hasn't burnt fuel as well, and water leaking into boot (advice on this forum was bang on).
  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 03 2.0HDi - refuses to start. 5 May 2009 (Forum)

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0 TDCI 130 GHIA X cut out in traffic / batter 9 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Call breakdown again and again cannot be jump or bump started. Checked immobiliser etc. Mechanic friend now stratching his head as says that this is the first diesel he has failed to start in 3 years and thinks it is a fuel related issue. Get car recovered to home again. next morning now try to charge battery again but the car will not start. Decide to ask local garage to put it on the computer.

  • Peugeot 306dt low compression 23 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I have a '95 Peugeot 306 dt which has suffered from poor starting for a long time. The car starts, but runs very rough for around 30s from cold. When warm the car drives ok. After trying and failing to find air leaks in the fuel system,I booked it in with a diesel specialist who has said the fuel system is fine but has diagnosed low compression (270psi) on one of the cylinders. I have had three quotes from engine specialists to put this right, all around £1000.All of them seemed surprised that the engine should have this fault at a relatively low mileage (88K),but seemed convinced that it was pistons or piston rings. Two of the places said I'd be better off with a recon engine,or getting rid of the car before it got any worse!
  • FIAT 500 (2007 - ) - Misfuel Hire Car 25 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I then realised that there was a small sticker on the fuel flap saying Diesel Only. I was quite surprised as the hire car company did not say the car was a diesel, and the car was quiet with great performance so I did not think I was driving a diesel.

  • Peugeot 806 MPV (1995 - 2003) - 01 2.0 Expert HDi 110 black smoke and poor economy 2 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Hi all My Pug Expert has had a few diesel problems which have mostly been sorted thanks to advice from several very helpful members of this forum. It's running much better now since a local diesel specialist found way too many copper seals under the injectors (he found 11 seals in the end) and gave it all a good clean up and bypassed the EGR valve, but I'm still getting black smoke especially under heavy (ish) acceleration and it's worse when the turbo kicks in.

  • Ford Focus Diesel - Problem with Engine Management System 30 May 2013 (Forum)
I had the car checked and serviced anyway and, as advised by the garage, had an anti-bacterial engine flush put into the diesel tank. and I then set off on a hundred mile journey. Sixty  miles into the journey, the car started to stutter mildly and the EMS light came on yet again. so I pulled off the motorway, switched off the engine and restarted it.
  • Ford Escort van T reg 99 55 1.8D - Lumpy cold start idle, stalling and hesitation!! 10 Dec 2010 (Forum)
It has brand new lifter pump, so would be suprised if it was leaking air (zip tied rubber glove over it, no difference) primer pump alway solid after 2 or 3 pumps. Have noticed diesel leak on fuel tank or lines not sure which havent had time to investigate. mmm thats all i can think of atm, but hopefully somebody out there can help me :-))) Thinking it might be a fuel starving problem but not sure where or how or what to test etc, not sure if fuel pump is dodgy or soemthing??
