  • Cost of covering high mileages in cars 9 Sep 2003 (Forum)
The reason I ask is through curiosity. Also, it can help those who want to know what they are likely to have to spend to cover high mileages in their cars. High mileages means around 80,000 miles+, and it may also be interesting to see how many miles owners of such cars get from brake pads, disks and tyres. In my case, I own a 1987 Toyota Camry turbo diesel (2.0 litre engine); mileage 100,000 miles Parts changed or repaired: Head gasket, alternator, radiator.

  • Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - Air-con repair not covered by warranty? 18 Apr 2011 (Forum)
It is completely standard 07 plate SRI cdti 150 with @ 32,000 miles. I 'phoned the local Vauxhall garage & booked the car in to be looked at under warranty. They told me that the compressor condenser needed replacing, and that the part and labour would be covered under the original 3 year warranty. The garage order the part and when it arrived I took the Vectra in to the garage.

  • 406 rear door. It will not open! 23 May 2005 (Forum)
When I came to open the rear offside door on the 406 today.....it wouldn't. I have taken the inner door cover off and both connecting rods that pull the mechanism to release the door are still connected and operating (from outside and from inside the car), as is the rod that actuates the central locking. The central locking on the electrical system still operates the on the lock moving the said lever.

  • BMW 320D - Cheap Windscreen Solution When Not Covered By Ins 18 Mar 2012 (Forum)
I guess 99.9% of people who need a new screen just claim on their private car insurance so getting one fitted on the cheap seems albeit impossible. Any ideas appreciated.
  • Volkswagen Golf V - Clutch Issues 3 Sep 2010 (Forum)
After argueing they replaced the 2nd gear syncho which they found to be faulty they told me that the clutch was fine. 3600 miles later the clutch is going and is not covered by warrenty  which I think is disgusting that a intergral driving part of the car is not covered. Any one have ideas how i can get them to replace it. All I can think of is the sale of  goods act that may cover me since the part is not fit for purpose.
  • Extended Warranties _ are they worth it? 21 May 2008 (Forum)
So far SEAT have made £300 profit on the deal. Today MAZDA offered me an extended warranty on my Mazda 6 auto estate. To extend cover for 24 months (ie to the car's 5th birthday) is £578. This includes breakdown cover. Is it worth it? If I don't take it out, I will still spend £200 approximately on breakdown cover over two years.
  • Breakdown Cover - Rip-off 19 Feb 2007 (Forum)
As we all know by now, there's absolutely no loyalty in this market. Example: SWMBO has just got a renewal for European breakdown cover with eco-pennant. Allowing for no callout discount it's £121. To get a new quote the website demands your details, so I'm sure if you put them in you'd get the same quote. I just tried with a full set of false details (but ensuring address, mileage, car type and age etc. are near enough identical) and, as a new potential customer - the price £112.

  • A battery of mice 10 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I opened the bonnet of my Omega this morning in order to top up the windscreen washer. I could hardly believe my eyes. The battery has a padded cover - rather like an immersion heater - and something had pulled away the cover exposing a white filling which was covered in peanuts and bits of stale bread. I can only assume it was field mice that had done this but it is quite worrying.

  • Tricky insurance question (driving abroad) 29 Nov 2007 (Forum)
(I will be there only 2-3 days) Now I've done this before and got the car insured o.k for what was holiday cover on my mums insurance, but I had not sent of the form to re-register it in my name at that point. So can I get the car insured straight away which is yes and if so I must then be able to get brake down cover.
