Breakdown Cover - Rip-off - Dulwich Estate
If there's one thing that's guaranteed to make me mad that's insurers (and others) charging more for a renewal of an existing case than for a brand new punter. As we all know by now, there's absolutely no loyalty in this market.

Example: SWMBO has just got a renewal for European breakdown cover with eco-pennant. Allowing for no callout discount it's £121.

To get a new quote the website demands your details, so I'm sure if you put them in you'd get the same quote. I just tried with a full set of false details (but ensuring address, mileage, car type and age etc. are near enough identical) and, as a new potential customer - the price £112.

I got my renewall notice from the AA last week.

£47 for option 100 (roadside but not home)...... online price for new member £35.25

I looked at the rac website , and saw they are offering 'solution 2' which includes home cover for just £39.99.

So I rang the AA to decline their offer. Without any prompting I was offered a reduced rate of £35, which I also declined.

Suffered similar from GreenFlag - More Expensive to have 5 yr NCB than a "new customer"

I have my cover with Directline/Royal Bank (who own Greenflag) - asked on the phone and was told no reduction despite new customers being cheaper (By £5).

Wrote in - 10 line letter - received phone call, letter and a reduction of £25 - 2 cars inc Home Start at £105 / year.

I know there are cheaper about but on the odd occasion I have used them they have been great (2 x in 25 years). I know I would ahve been better putting the money away and paying for a tow but when there is 18" snow and you breakdown in the middle of nowhere they kept their promise and turned up in about 1 hour.

Andy B. I've taken a look at www.adac.de and got some info in English at the "Join ADAC" button. It seems to be around only ?40 for one person and ?65 for a couple for one year's breakdown cover anywhere in Europe inc. the UK.

I'd like to go ahead - do you know anywhere I can get more policy info in English?

Hi,

Try More than. Cost £52 for my dads Vauxhall Astra for recovery including Homestart.. If you use a cashback company like Quidco, you could get a further £17 off if it works..

Believe More than use RAC for most of there patrols
