An excellent all-rounder for our needs

Chose 2.0 TSi and have been extremely pleased with both the performance and fuel economy. Nearly all of my driving is along quiet A- and B-roads, and motorways: I don't commute in this car and thus avoid rush hours, and with this in mind (because your driving style may be very different) my fuel economy has been far, far better than I'd hoped for. I've never had < 40 mpg from a tankful, and often average 45 mpg on my journeys.

The car is very quiet and easy to drive, with good visibility aided by all-round sensors. For such a large car, the turning circle appears to be very reasonable. I find the leather seats to be grippy and comfortable (but seat comfort is hugely personal) but if I hadn't been keeping the list price to < £40K, I'd have specified the ventilated seats for that extra bit of pampering on very hot days.

Other good points are the infotainment system works well and DAB reception is excellent. Pairing a phone is very easy. Factory-fit speakers aren't the best but are easily upgraded. Don't bother with the Canton upgrade - the sound quality is still 'tinny' but with ill-controlled bass (evidence from colleague's car). Spend the money instead on decent-quality aftermarket speakers (our local car audio place is excellent).

The boot is enormous, the centre-row seats fold pretty much flat, boot cover stows nicely under the bot floor, even with a spare wheel specified. Swivel towbar (for my bike carrier) is brilliant.

Our car has progressive steering which comes with DCC, and I'm totally pleased with this choice. DCC is (for me) normally set in comfort mode for the ride, and it's a subtle change from the normal setting, enough to help mitigate the terrible roads where we live.

ACC and LKA are great for motorway stints, I absolutely love this combo, you might not, but once I've got used to them I'd really miss if gone. LED headlights are excellent and easily-adjustable if you drive in the EU.

Negatives or 'meh'?

Skoda UK are totally, utterly useless, apart from the simplest queries that a decent chat bot could answer - and then they often give the wrong response.

The 7-speed wet-clutch DSG box is totally fine 99% of the time but can be a little bit 'jerky' at low speed when cold. Nonetheless the 'creep' is totally fine for eg parking in mult-stories.

The 'coast' function of the box and thus no engine braking when foot off throttle takes some getting used to, but now I use it to its best advantage.

A very personal thing but I hate the 12V sockets being on even without ignition. I gather that MY21 cars will have additional USB-C sockets for charging, about time Skoda.

On the 7-seat cars, only 2 shopping bag hooks in the boot? Why can't I have the rail with the sliding hooks found in the 5-seat?

Overall, very pleased with the car, if it got written off tomorrow, sure, I'd look around, but it's likely I'd buy another.
