Skoda Octavia (2020 on)
SEL 1.5 TSI PETROL
Severe engine fault
Despite being maintained to a high standard and covering a reasonable mileage for its age (fault started at 74000 miles at 5 years old), the vehicle has consistently consumed excessive oil since purchase and now presents with a major mechanical fault.
Engine Fault:
A Volkswagen Master Technician (24 years’ experience) has inspected the vehicle and reported the following:
The engine produces a severe knocking noise consistent with piston slap.
Cylinder bore on piston 2 is severely damaged and discoloured, indicating oil combustion within the cylinder.
Piston 3 also shows heavy scoring and deterioration consistent with internal engine wear.
Given the vehicle’s age, full maintenance history, and the nature of this fault, it appears this fault is a manufacturing defect.
I have been in touch with Škoda and despite them doing a second investigation, which confirmed the same findings as the first master technician; they have demanded a third investigation. They finally agreed to cover the cost of this third investigation on Tuesday 21st October. I was assured I would have further details and a booking by Thursday 23rd October. Despite my attempts to further contact the executive office I have been dealing with, they have not responded and we are now another week further on. Škoda do not seem to care this is affecting my mental and physical health as well as livelihood. I have a vehicle with a sub par engine that is not fit for purpose and I do not recommend this car or engine.
I have been passed from pillar to post consistently, still with no clear path of action.
