Overall reliability

In 40 years of driving most reliable car ever

The Mazda 6 - spacious, sporty, good fuel economy, great looking.

I bought this car to commute to work 32 miles each way every day. My needs were to have something that could cruise along a dual carriageway with no effort in comfort and the Mazda has served me well. The car has now done 90,000 miles of which 70,000 were done by myself. When I first bought it I had the timing belt changed under warranty recall and since that has been done all I have had to do is service it. I have read on the forum about dpf faults that other people have had but that has not been my experience at all. Perhaps the car needs a good run each day and may not be suitable for city traffic. My 32 mile journey takes me 35 minutes on cruise control along the North Wales coast into Anglesey. The car is amazingly kind on its tyres and brakes. The discs are still original and the pads have been changed once. The clutch is also still original and no obvious signs of wear. The interior may not be as plush as other cars I have had but the driving experience is amazing. The car accelerates briskly and handles corners like a sports car with no roll at all. The air conditioning is effective but my model has not got climate control or the bose speakers. It is very fuel efficient achieving 45 mpg with ease and over 50 if you try. Apart from regular servicing the only trips to Halfords in 4 years have been for 2 headlamp bulbs, a set of wipers and a new battery. I have owned many cars over the years and the only one that has come close in terms of reliability was my Fiat Punto but this is in a different class.
